I've been writing a fanfiction series called Ultimate Sleepwalker: The New Dreams for a couple of years now, available both at www.fanfiction.net and here:

The concept is much the same as Bob Budiansky's original comics, some of the best and most criminally underrated work Marvel has ever produced: the Mindscape is a dimension that connects the minds of all sentient beings in our world, infested with horrific creatures that invade human minds to prey on them.
These minds are defended by the Sleepwalkers, a race of beings tasked with patrolling the Mindscape and protecting the minds of humans from the attacks of demons and monsters. Now trapped in the mind of human college student Rick Sheridan, one of these Sleepwalkers has taken to fighting the criminals and evils of the human world as he searches for a way home...
This series and its companion series Ultimate Spider-Woman: Change WIth the Light are set in Earth-2706, an entirely brand-new and rebooted version of the Marvel Universe with no connection to any of Marvel's official continuity. The story begins in late 2006, when I first began writing the series, eight years after the Fantastic Four first made their fateful journey into space. Since then, with the appearance of the Incredible Hulk in 2001, Spider-Man in 2003 and increasing numbers of people gaining superpowers through innate mutations or industrial accidents and other life-altering experiences, decades of social conditioning by comic books has made life imitate art, so that many of these superpowered individuals dress in strange costumes and commit crimes as supervillains, while others dress in similar costumes and attempt to stop them as superheroes.
Many characters are heavily reimagined or otherwise altered, as D-List villains are taken and given makeovers to become credible threats-where else will you find the Ringer, Hellrazor, Firebrand or Jack O'Lantern as top-level villains? Even characters like Spider-Man have been changed-in this version Aunt May was shot dead by the Burglar rather than Uncle Ben, who is alive and well. Similarly, Peter Parker's one true love is Gwen Stacy rather than Mary Jane Watson, who I later made the protagonist of Ultimate Spider-Woman, who I'll be detailing in a separate post.
My goal here was to give many of the lesser lights of the Marvel Universe like Sleepwalker the respect they rightfully deserve but have never gotten. With Spider-Man, Batman and X-Men stories a dime a dozen, and villains like the Green Goblin and Venom having been used time and again, I'm trying to do something different that stands out.
If you're interested, feel free to follow the links I've provided. Feedback and reviews are not only welcome but very much appreciated. Whether or not you were a fan of the original Sleepwalker comics, I hope that this series-standing at 33 issues, two Annuals, and a Halloween special so far-will do one of Marvel's unsung heroes justice.
