I've been thinking..
Black Lightning Year one is ... awesome.. and if it sells well there i no question that there will be another mini or even an Ongoing.. but can BL support his own series?

It could probably survive a few years. I wouldn't expect it to be a particularly strong seller.

Dunno how long it would last, but I'd buy it.

I probably would not buy it. It seems wrong to have a Black Lightning character why Tony Isabella is on the outs with DC.

Well.. hate to be this honest about it .. BUT!
He is being a child..
Everything he has complained about they have addressed but he always find something new..

Well he did support his own series for a while, right? So, I don't see any reason why DC couldn't test the waters with a mini-series to gauge the interest first.

DC has agreed to let him pitch book to them again?

have they ever denied him? if so.. news to me..
but not surprising given that he constantly criticize them for doing what they want with their own characters

Can it CREATIVELY support it? Easily.
Will the market support it enough for it to meet DCs standards as to how many copies they feel they have to sell for something to be labeled as a success? Probably not.

I suppose it would depend on the creative team. If it follows the standard DC procedure of the last few years, it will have a semi-respectable creative team that is eventually replaced by a much smaller-profile team and will eventually be canceled (see Blue Beetle).

Am I the only one who'd like to see some hair on him, though.
I dunno what it is with me, but hair is important.

Tony Isabella was fired off the last Black Lightning series after 8 issues and DC has black listed him since. This was before all the public fighting.

That's crappy, but maybe he should make a character CALLED 'Black Listed'. I smell money in the bank...

PS I saw in previews BL will get his hair back. Wasn't feeling the 'every african american in the dcu needs to be bald' thing, personally.

Its Judd "Mr Stereotype" Winicks fault

I never really cared about Black Lightning and still don't. If I could choose a black hero to get an ongoing, I'd go with Mr. Terrific or Vixen.

Vixen I understand.. but Mr Terrific?

Agreed...that was bugging me too. I think it was bugging Dwayne McDuffie too...he made a joke about it.

Who else was bald? I can only think of the latest Amazing Man.... Mister Terrif and John Stewart both have hair.

I dunno. I just like Mr. Terrific. Even though this current Vixen mini has turned out kinda boring, I'd like to see her in an ongoing.
I've just never really cared this way or that about Black Lightning, though.

It was Brad Meltzer that had him go bald. It was around the time that a lot of black super heroes at both DC and Marvel was going bald. Mister Terrific was the exception, but John Steward on the cartoon had just gone bald.

Well if most black (male) heroes in the DCU have hair, why say that most don't?
Geez. Point is it wasn't true, for what any of it is worth.

Steel comes to mind.
I can think of more Marvel characters than DC ones - Nezhno, Bishop (currently), Luke Cage, Synch...

I could see such a series getting a somewhat decent run. I'd buy it, if the writing was good enough.

We need some laughs in the DCU.

DC, god bless them, launched a bunch of books with minority and female leads starting when Dan Didio took over and they all crashed and burned. To their credit they haven’t given up yet as minority leads are a part of their team books and are getting minis but I don’t think we will be seeing a minority lead ongoing for quite a while.

It's a good thing I'm in briefs, then!
Oh, and Tony's last, short lived Black Lightning was soaked in awesome sauce. I was crush when they pulled the plug like they did.

Year One's sales have been quite low. In fact, I don't think any of those Year One minis have sold well (above 30K). So probably not.
Which means we'll probably get an ongoing any day now - along with a Didio commitment to see it succeed, atrocious sales that never pick up, repeated hopes that it "helps build the franchise" and then a cancellation blamed to "lack of fan response."
