I mean think about:
First Amazing Spider-girl gets cancel
Now Ultimate Spider-man is being retitled
All that's left is Marvel Adventures Spider-man, and that's for young kids.
So is it just me or is Marvel Limiting our options to buy different Spider-man titles so that all that left to by is the regular Amazing Spider-man title ? :frown:

Who wants to take bets on how fast the half-baked conspiricy theories will come out?

I know how you feel, but I'm just going to take this as a cue that it's time to move on from comics in general. I'm just tired of all of Marvel's crap.

I don't think it's anything Marvel is doing intentionally to force people to buy ASM. Several Spidey cancellations are happening around the same time but that's probably just coincidence.

How is retitling a book taking it away as an option?

I don't think it automatically takes it away but since the person behind the mask is apparently going to be somebody else, I can see why someone who really liked USM might not like the direction and consider it a lost option.

If that's what happens, sure. Though, it's being written by the same person who's always written the book, and much of the cast is still going to be there, so I don't know that it's going to be all that different.

It's really weird.
Who else in the Ultimate Universe could pull off being Spider-Man anyway?
Crazy weird agility, funky Mcfarlane body contorting action, Spider-Sense, wall crawling, it's not like he could pull a Ronin and get someone like Kitty to do all that.
I know Peter had some clones but didn't they all pretty much stand out in a visibly freaky way that you would tell it wasn't really him if they put on the suit?
Overall though, it's pretty much going to be the same taste as USM fans are used to, it's not like Bendis is going to change his writing style alot or anything or Peter isn't going to be back sooner rather than later (as in six or ten issues I'm guessing something along those lines if he's not already around taking time off in the background of the issues).
And Spider-Girl was canned becuase there was not a strong enough demand for it as an alternative. In fact, Marvel probably let it go on and survive longer than some people might consider advisable.
Alternatives exist because theres a demand for something like it outside of the main dish (Amazing Spider-Man for example), Spider-Girl pretty much fell through the cracks and has been largely ignored to the point where it's existence pretty much had to come into question and Marvel understandably decided to end it.
Just one of those cold hard financial realities, I wish I could say they canceled it just to be a dick but that doesn't seem to be the case unfortunately.
But I definitely think they should keep trying stuff like that.
New Spider-Man 2099 ongoing, anyone?

A new Spider-Man 2099 title would be cool now.

There are still many options.
Its only Amazing Spider-Girl thats geting cancelled because didnt had enough sales to keep going as far as i know.
Never read much of Spider-Girl but from what i read the last arc of stories in the book are going to be extremelly cool.
No jokes,i would had never guess which final destiny would Peter Parker take in the Spider Girl universe, and when i read about it. Well it was impressive enough to me anyways.
I want spoil it to nobody, but is surely a interesting story.
So looking at the Spider-Girl book generrally i have to say it have a good run and the last arc of stories is very well made.
Ultimate Spider-Man is just geting retitled.
And Amazing Spider-Man(3xmonth),Amazing Spider-Man Extra,Amazing Spider-Man Familly and Amazing Spider-Man Annual wont leave readers without options to read Spider-Man stories.

It's actually more a matter of the public not supporting those alternate takes. Those alternate takes thrived only because the main product was poor. Now that it's revitalised, the public can drop the substitutes.

While I wouldn't be opposed to Marvel getting rid of alternate Spider-Man title options (as consolidating the series to one book has its advantages), they're currently doing everything they can to create interest in the titles.
Spider-Girl's sales have been lackluster for a long time, and Marvel's still searching for ways to extend its run, including moving it to Amazing Spider-Man Family.
Meanwhile, the relaunch of Ultimate Spider-Man is part of something meant to renew interest in the entire Ultimate line.
If Marvel wanted to limit alternate universe options, both books would have been canceled a while back.

If Marvel wanted to limit alternate universe options, both books would have been canceled a while back.I agree. I think Marvel has tried very hard to give it's readers a variety of Spider-Man books -- almost to a fault. It's really not their fault if people don't buy them in quantities high enough to justify them continuing.

In this day and age, it's sometimes hard to keep main titles afloat, let alone two or three of a certain character. Years ago, it would have been viable, as a title like Spectacular Spider-Man sold more copies then than Amazing Spider-Man does now.
Sounds like it's time to try out the Ben Reilly alternative!

Well, now that I think about it (and I didn't before becuase it seemed entirely way too easy), it's probably Jessica Drew but I love the Ultimate Spider-Woman costume too much to have her parading around as a flatchested boy in someone else's getup.

All the Spider-related titles will be canceled and we'll get Ultimate Amazing Spider-Girl Family 2099.

Ultimate Spider-Man is just being relaunched with a new number one. Its an old tactic, but because its being presented in the Ultimate Universe, its presented as a "fresh new take on an old favorite!!!"
And Spider-Girl may be getting cancelled, but we've yet to see if Marvel will let the character-and the universe-die away.
