Welcome to X-Crescence, which is from the word excrescence, which is defined as "An outgrowth or enlargement, especially an abnormal one, such as a wart."

Well, this is an outgrowth from the X-Boards proper.

This is where you pretty much can post whatever you want.

Civility rules apply here! But you can have arguments and stuff like that - do note that arguments can and SHOULD be civil. One thing you definitely can't do is trash talk posters who are not in the thread, like, "Oh man, did you see what Poster X said? What a loser." You can talk generally about stuff, though - like, "Oh man, some posters are really getting me mad today," etc.

And I certainly hope folks follow the rules, because I'd hate to close it again.

Otherwise, enjoy!

By the by, I saw people asking earlier about the legal arguments about Prop. 8, and here is really the main argument against gay marriage (legal-wise, that is).

Married people are not a "protected class," so to overturn a law discriminating against said class of people, you need to prove that the law does not have any reaonable connection to any (it says "legitimate," but that's essentially "any") government interest.

And for the most part, that last bit has been difficult to prove in a court of law, as it is extremely difficult to prove that a decision is unreasonable.

You or I might find it unreasonable (and you bet I think it is unreasonable), but a court has to determine that it is completely unreasonable, and that is hard to do.

That is why, in the case of Prop 8, the folks going against it are trying alternative arguments because the equal protection argument is unlikely to cut it here (although it DID work in other states, such as CT and MA).

However, after years of this argument failing in relation to laws against homosexuality, awhile back, the Supreme Court ruled that there WAS no reasonable connection to any government interest to ban homosexual practices.

So odds are, eventually, this will happen here, as you just need the courts to eventually say, "Yeah, there just is NO reasonable explanation for why we would not want to allow same-sex marriage."

Sadly, that doesn't seem to be happening any time soon.

For those who are interested, there are other (non-legalistic) arguments against gay marriage from a queer perspective, including ones that question the institutions (norms, sexual practices, laws, tax shelters) that make heteronormativity coherent. One of the better arguments to this end is in Lauren Berlant and Michael Warner's essay "Sex in Public," which is reprinted in Intimacy (http://www.amazon.com/Intimacy-Lauren-Berlant/dp/0226384438). I am sure I have a pdf of it somewhere around here if someone wants it (since I was Lauren's student and edited at the journal that first printed it). Michael Warner dumbed down the technical argument in his diatribe against that moron, Andrew Sullivan, in The Trouble with Normal (http://www.amazon.com/Trouble-Normal-Politics-Ethics-Queer/dp/0674004418/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1233795673&sr=1-1). I consider the book pretty condescending ("We rich circuit queens must save the homeless queer boys of color being gay bashed by the pier!") but it gets the point across to non-academics.

What country is Moon Knight's mythology with Konshu from, again?

I keed, dn@n. You're right, the battle vs. the T-Bolts in that book was great. More importantly, Marc Spector doesn't have the nasty habit of dressing up young flexible, athletic boys in short shorts of bright color to run around rooftops and dark alleys with him. Points for that.

I think i'm going to drop a lot of my books, i just noticed that about half the books i'm reading, i don't actually care about anymore.

From now on it's..

Uncanny, Axm, Legacy, X-Force, Cable, The New Mutants book.

New, Mighty, Dark Avengers.

Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Iron Fist, Daredevil, Spider Woman.

Am i missing anything good?

I've got all those, except Iron Man. Stark is not worth my time. I'm thinking of dropping Cable.

I enjoy the occasional Nova, but would definitely recommend Captain Britain. It's always as good as X-Force, Thor and Iron Fist.

You know, I didn't think about it until now, but as a result of how bad Countdown and Final Crisis were... my DC pull list is like:

Booster Gold
Secret Six
Fables
Jack of Fables

Two of those are technically Vertigo, so yeah... I think I'm away from DC until something remarkable is done with Batman.

Morrison's back in June!

But since it's Quitely, it'll probably be December.

Hey everyone -

I'm a newbie, but have been reading CBR for a while now. I don't know if this is the right thread to post in, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

I want to do a cover up tattoo on my arm of a forest scene and I'd like it to have a comic-art feel to it. Does anyone know of any good comics/artists/scenes I might be able to use for inspiration? Any scans? Preferably a dark/evening forest or tree scene.

I was hoping to not have to go to my parent's house and go through my stacks and stacks of comics if someone here could point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance!!!!

For Bingo!:

A candy-colored clown they call the sandman
Tiptoes to my room every night
Just to sprinkle star dust and to whisper
“Go to sleep, everything is all right”

I close my eyes then I drift away
Into the magic night, I softly say
A silent prayer like dreamers do
Then I fall asleep to dream my dreams of you

In dreams I walk with you
In dreams I talk to you
In dreams you're mine all the time
We're together in dreams, in dreams

But just before the dawn
I awake and find you gone
I can't help it, I can't help it if I cry
I remember that you said goodbye

Too bad it only seems
It only happens in my dreams
Only in dreams
In beautiful dreams.
