wow, just wow,...... there extra material by neal adams in this issue of a another holocaust story about a painter name Dina(crap I can't spell her name). The use of history was really well done. I honestly think this is the best series that marvel came up with in a long time. No other comic had made me feel for Magneto and how he came to be. I can see why Magneto is easily my top favorite x-men character.
the only disappointing factor that didnt really matter is I was hoping to see CARMINE DI GIANDOMENICO version of max grown up as the Magneto we all know and love in his awesome purple and red costume and helmet, maybe overlooking Astroid M.

A great end to a powerful series... I really believe this series will have a very long shelf life in trade.

I'm sorry. This made me laugh harder than it should have.

I haven't been following this mini, and didn't intend to, but the positive word of mouth the last couple of months have gotten me intrigued enough that I might get it when it's collected. One question though: is this a straight up "never before seen" origin story or is it some altered reality piece?

No, it very much hasn't been seen before and is his origins story.

Yes, while Magneto has told bits and pieces of his background story and we've seen little bits in flashback, it has never actually been shown in it entirety and Rivka Jakobs received confirmation from Joe Q. that this is cannon.
This was simply a brilliant series. I was glad they included the October uprising in his origin story, I always wondered what his role was in that. While it alters what was established in Classic X-men #12, it only does so slightly. I think more important to show Magnus role in the resistance. I'm still processing it and will have more to say tomorrow.
But I also think it was a very nice touch to include a real story at the end, not only to call attention to Dina Babbitt's portraits, further grounding the piece in reality. People lived through this, people many of us older types or our parents probably have walked past in the mall or sat next to in the theater, if not known personally.
Now here is an interesting question: Was the guy who found the canister at the end him, or someone else? Remember Magnus and Magda would have been in the Carpathian Mountains by that point, though he might have returned to Poland to try to find his uncle.
It would be kind of interesting if it wasn't him, but Charles.

Point. He's also too old I think. (Charles is about ten years younger than Magnus) Nice thought tho'. I guess it was meant to be Max/Magnus. Or perhaps some random visitor reading his words echoing through time.

This was an incredible story, as far as I can tell it was perfectly historically accurate. This is something everyone needs to read as origin stories go I think this is one of the best ever and it sets up perfectly the motivations for one of the best villains in all of comics.

I guess between the huge time gaps is Max's off panel encounter with Mengele(X-men vol 2, Magneto while torturing Moria recalling Mengele words) and Sinister(according to Excalibur vol 2). I would understand why they avoided sinister snice they try to make it as realistic as possible.

You don't have to be a big Magneto fan to love this series.
Hopefully, it better allows fans to understand what makes the character tick and what motivates him isn't out of hatred for humans... its out of a desire to prevent another genocide.

Errr...I think you mean "You DON'T have to be a big Magneto fan to love this series."
Which one does not. As Pak said from the beginning, this is just the story of a boy trying to survive. Whatever one may think of what he eventually became, his origin story is both incredibly moving, and a testament (no pun intended) to the will, the ability to survive, and the humanity of ALL those that survived the Holocaust.
(Plus the character development was very well done against the extreme backdrop of what he was trying to live through. Against such drama, it seems subtle, but if one reads closely, you can see how he became the man he did.)
