I read the first seven or so issues and stopped. I just found it to Dawson Creekish to me. And I could not get around the fact that version of Emma was so...docile and compliant.

Astrid controlled the mind of Ian (Emma's boyfriend at the time) and made him act as a chauvinistic bigot. Emma soon found out that Astrid was making Ian do wicked things. Though she tried to explain to Emma that she did it so he would not break her heart in the mere future, Emma saw through Astrid's false sincerity. In a desperate effort to control Emma, while simultaneously framing Emma's male love-interest for the crime of assault; .

I guess technically it's not recent. She's been speaking like that since around 2000, so it's been almost a decade. But she's not British and never spoke with a British accent or slang untill Ellis took over Gen X, so at that time it was a reimagining. It works for the character, I suppose.
