King Tut? Seriously? King Tut? What's next? Egghead? He at least was played by Vincent Price.

I get the impression he's a mystery villain that nobody's seen.

But as you'll see in the interview, this is a very different King Tut than the one that was seen on TV.

I did read it. But why on earth associate it with the sixties Batman series then? Has nostalgia finally reached the bottom of the barrel?

If you think the 60s Batman show is the bottom of the nostalgia barrel then you really don't know much about nostalgia.

Well, as you saw, that was the editor's idea, not the writers'.

We ain't hiding behind Mike. It may have been his idea, but it was a GOOD idea. And we'll gladly take credit or blame, since the execution falls to us.

I'm actually really excited for this one.

The art looks like Jim Aparo's, and that's never going to be a bad thing.

A "new" and "old" villain all in the same book, very cool. (I always hoped the next 60's Batman villain to come back would be Bookworm, I think he lends himself to a lot of the Oracle/computer-based stuff nowadays).

And I ALWAYS hope for a good Riddler story because there need to be more good Riddler stories. While I recognize that a handful of Bat-rogues are bigger and more important than Riddler is ... for no Batman villain do I have more of a soft spot. Maybe because he reminds me of myself.

What's the problem with finally utilizing the '60s TV villains? Honestly, they're more well-known than guys like Killer Croc.

I was really excited about this arc (I haven't been so far), but the fact that King Tut's riddles seem to center on Aten is even more interesting. For some more information on the events that surrounded King Tut and the church of Aten, here it is:

In Ancient Egypt there were many gods with each god having their own church. The priests competed with each other and the Pharaoh pited the churches against each other to give certain churches more prominence (and therefore more power) over the others.

One Pharaoh called Akhenaten changed all this by outlawing all of the religions except for that of Aten. This was unprecedented and unpopular among the churches of the now outlawed religions. Tutankhamun was Akhenaten's successor and possibly his son! He undid his father's changes and also replaced the church of Aten with that of Amun above all of the other religions (signified by changing his name from Tutankhaten to Tutankhamun).

So I'm curious how they take these historical facts and work them into a Batman comic. I'm also heartened to see they did research into Tutankhamun and how he relates to Aten. For a few seconds I was worried that this book would be rife with historical inaccuracies.

Sounds fun to me. I'll check it out.

But I'm really looking forward to a King Tut/ Maxie Zeus gang war...

It's Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, and that's another reason I'm looking forward to this.

That does sound like fun. They pretty much play Maxie Zeus as a joke since the Crisis (and I suppose he is good for that) but I always really liked his first few stories especially the first one by Denny O'Neil.

I say bring on Egghead! Mister Freeze really was known more from the TV show until the 90s. It is all about good stories.

If I was the editorial guru for Batman and once I got back to the regular Batman, I'd put a moratorium on some of the heavy hitters of the Rogues gallery and get back to using a bunch of the other villains and create some new ones.

They used to kind of make using the Joker a big deal...now he is pretty much in a comic nearly every month.

Personally if I was DC, I would get back to getting the high quality talent doing more Batman stories set earlier in his career anyway. The stuff leads to being able to tell better stories with a defined beginning, middle and end.

I'd especially like to see them do more stories with Batman when Dick Grayson was Robin.

That would be kind of hard to do, since Maxie is dead....
