I've noticed a lot of similarities between the two. The main difference is Waid is slightly more cutting edge in the humor/pop culture references he puts in to his stuff.

Are we talking Dwyane Wade or Mark Waid?

D. Wade can dunk on M.Waid any day.

But I'd love to see D.Wade write an issue of THE FLASH. After all, that's what Shaq named him.

Wow. I'm ashamed of myself spelling my favorite writer's name wrong. Must be still sleeping. In any event its been changed.

I'd say they have similar writing philosophies and similar backgrounds as comic fans (the large difference between them being that Busiek is a Marvel zombie by nature, Waid a Johnny DC). Then again, they're writers of the same generation, so it shouldn't be too surprising that they've developed similar ethoses. (Ethes?)

Yeah, I've always seen them as being similar. Both are especially good at doing classic old school superheroes with a modern twist. They're also both somewhat inconsistent but from my experience, Waid is less so than Busiek.

At their best, both rule though.

Waid and Busiek are very similar and also very underated, both have written classic group stories like with Waid's JLA and Kurt's Avengers run. Both have a great feel for iconic heroes and both are underused by DC for the most part.

Totally agree. Both have a strong emphasis on continuity and are character-driven writers. Each of their characters has a distinct voice consisent with past depictions. There's very little decompression in their writing.

Having said that, I find it easy to distinguish between stories written by both writers. They each have their nuances.

Agreed about Waid, Busiek has had some very high profile DC stuff in recent years. Personally, I don't rate his Superman as some of his best work but that and Trinity are big DC projects.

On the other hand, I think it's a great pity that DC have in recent years driven away some of the best veteran writers out there. I'm talking here specifically about Chuck Dixon, Mark Waid and, quite a few years back, Peter David. They would probably vastly improve a lot of DCs less stellar books like JLA and the mess that is the current Titans franchise.
