View Full Version : The LAST Crisis??? Really?

I loved "Final Crisis" -- as anyone who read this week's "When Words Collide" can see -- but do people really think this will be the last Crisis?
And, more importantly, do they want it to be?
I'd like a break between Crisis-level events, sure, but in these superhero universes, its fun to see huge events taking place. Who wants years and years of minor stories? Really?

I'd like it to be the last crisis with Monitors.
And, it is possible to have a crisis-level event without calling it a crisis...
Like Darkest Night, maybe.

Tim,
As much as I love the CRISIS stories...they could use a crossover/event rest.
If it's used sparingly such as a Thanksgiving JLA Dinner with a different Multiverse team...then maybe.
But there are two notions;
The Bleed: and the Snowflake's number of universes.
or what Geoff Johns alluded to about the Megaverse as Rip Hunter referred to the Future in FIFTY-TWO: Week 52. No number here...
How many worlds of possibilities are out there...
Maybe as Dave Bowman said in Clarke's 2001, "It's Full of Stars"
'namaste...

I don't know if it's the DCU's last Crisis, but I'll tell you right now that it's sure as hell MINE.

It would be nice to see just a few, character/team specific events, well written and easy to follow. The whole mega event needs to be put to bed for at least a few years.

It might be nice to return to the old 'Crisis Events', that Gardner Fox introduced.
Plus maybe some more Sunshine Superman perhaps??

I'm not a huge fan of the multiverse (i preferred the Elseworld titles) so I'd like a crisis that got rid of it, but that would be INCREDIBLY redundant so I'm guessing there here to stay. And yea its the last one, or at least the last one with a crisis tag line, doing another after FINAL crisis would be a bad joke

I wish (hell, I wish COIE had been the last), but obviously this "last crisis" nonsense is a completely empty promise.

I don't think that DC is currently capable of pulling off a big crossover event anymore. Infinite Crisis was kind of a mess, with shoddy artwork and weak writing in the mini itself, and several fairly extraneous tie-ins that were pushed hard at the readers. And Final Crisis has been even worse, with the epic failure of Countdown, the art problems and recurring delays in Final Crisis, and the redundant and frankly inaccurate story told in Death of the New Gods. And we're still waiting for Superman Beyond #2 and Legion of Three Worlds #3-5. IF this is the best that Didio can do, he should either resign, or stop doing badly-coordinated crossover events.
All that said, somehow 52 turned out great. Sure, it helped that four great writers well worked together on it. But there was never a late issue, the Giffen inks and Jones covers helped maintain some sense of continuity in the artwork, and it even managed to tie in with the OYL material to a certain extent. That gives me hope that DC may someday be capable of doing another great crossover. I'm not sure that I will buy into it, given the high price of comics these days, but if it looks great, I will give it a try.

Just to clarify, Superman Beyond #2 came out last week, and the rest of LOTW doesn't seem to have much relevance within the proper Final Crisis.

Superman Beyond #2 was out last week in the states.... Its a must read for FC #7....
At this point i totally agree with you though.... this was bad all around. It had a few good spots.... #6 was impressive.... but man dc dropped the ball.

disagree. it gets us to the point of the miracle machine.... FC Issue #6. but it is late and thus diminished..... if it didnt have prime in it i would not buy it.

FC #6 tells you everything you already need to know about what happened in the future in relation to Final Crisis. Superman was called to help with something, then they tried to make Superman go back in time and couldn't.
Whether they fight Prime or the Time Trapper is irrelevant to FC, just as any possible casualties from that encounter don't matter in the main event and are only interesting to the ones following the Legion strand. Half of the Legion could end up dead for all we know.
Furthermore, FC #6 doesn't really spoil anything other than the fact that both Brainiac 5 and Superman survive the battles in the future. Is anyone surprised by that?

I think they should switch from Crises to Dramas.
2009: Drama on Earth-5
2010: Drama on Paradise Island
2011: Drama in Wayne Manor
2012: Drama in the Kents' Bedroom
2013: Infinite Drama
2014: Final Drama

Finally the mess known as Final Crisis is OVER.
Now, we can put the focus back on my beloved Green Lantern universe and Blackest Night, a REAL event that will be better than FC by far!
Sidebar: I think some people are saying they liked and enjoyed FC kinda like the same way you don't raise your hand in class out of fear you'll be the only one with questions. LOL
It won't be the last crisis. Once DC is on the brink of total annihilation, they'll pull another one out of their @$$.

BLACKEST NIGHT will probably be awesome, but no matter how awesome it is, it'll still be primarily a GREEN LANTERN event with some peripheral involvement by the rest of the DCU, just like SINESTRO CORPS WAR was. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it just won't be that kind of "Crisis" with a capital "C." The rest of the DCU didn't even seem to acknowledge that SINESTRO CORPS WAR ever happened (something of that magnitude should have had lasting effects on the universe *at least* as great as those of FINAL CRISIS, right?), and I imagine the same will be true of BLACKEST NIGHT.

It was the Final Crisis of the Fourth World bringing the Monitors' story full circle. It performed as advertised and I for one enjoyed it. I'm glad they did not get rid of the Multiverse again, as its removal was the thing I liked least about COIE when that came out.

To me, the Crises started with Crisis on Earth-2, not Crisis on Infinite Earths. So I am not really getting the "full circle" tingle.

Like Morrison said, the 3 major crises were the result of Monitor meddling, with the Monitors now gone there will be no more of this type of "crisis"
though I fully see it possible for there to be another Crisis at some point, just not a major Multiversal one, but stuff more along the lines of what happened in Morrison's JLA or Blackest Night

Hm. I saw it advertised as 'The Day Evil Won'... and while I won't say they made it through flawlessly, I'd have to give this one to the Good Guys.

Only the same way that yesterday was last Sunday.
