I want to re-read Final Crisis again straight through (minus the unnecessary tie-ins), so do I need to reread all of Seven Soldiers or just Mister Miracle?

Here is my planned reading, in order, thus far:

1. DCU Zero
2. Justice League #21
3. FC 1
4. Requiem 1
5. FC 2
6. FC 3
7. Superman Beyond 1
8. Superman Beyond 2
9. Submit
10. FC 4
11. FC 5
12. Batman 682
13. Batman 683
14. FC-Secret Files
15. FC 6
16. FC 7

Hey SpaceBooger, fancy meeting you here.

I'd dare say that you could do just fine by reading only Mister Miracle and then Seven Soldiers #1, since the events involving Shilo.continue there.

I'd actually go as far as to say you don't need to read Seven Soldiers at all.

Not for Final Crisis, anyway. It's worth reading on its own.

I do feel fancy now...
Oh, and thanks for the clarification. As much as I loved the whole seven soldiers stories, I really didn't want to read all of them and FC again, so I'll just add Shilo's stuff to my list and experience the story in just one or two sittings.

I'd agree. It might be an idea to compare it to the 80's Crisis on Infinite Earths book, just to see where the comparisons may or may not lie.

Mister Miracle introduced us to Morrison's idea of the New Gods 'falling'. That is established in the series itself.

I agree that a "complete" reading list would include the original crisis, infinite crisis, 52, and countdown... but I am trying to get my comics together for a straight through read of FC.

I'd maybe put Mr. Miracle and Seven Soldiers #1 before even DCU. It's got Darkseid when he's on Earth 'earliest', though he falls there after Final Crisis #7...

..Head hurts...

I'd just leave out Countdown all together. It doesn't really much sync up with Final Crisis and, speaking as one of probably only three of four people who actually read the thing to its bitter end, you'll be saving yourself a headache.

As another one of those unhappy few, I feel we should all get T-shirts or something for it. :p

If you're going to read Seven Soldiers, you should read ALL of it. You won't understand Mr. Miracle without the context of the rest of the series.

I didn't think that was what happened - I thought he was on Earth prior to FC in Mister Miracle, the big gangsta boss body he was in failed him, and he transferred to Turpin during FC. That was my chronology anyway. I suppose it's possible that all of his DCU continuity appearances are actually in reverse-time, though... which would make his first technical appearance "The Great Darkness Saga".

Headache any better?

I read Mister Miracle #1-4 and Seven Soldiers #1 (it has a fairly pivotal MM and Darkseid bit).

What he said, I'm currently on the final volume.

The tpb are not broken up into each hero. The stories are scattered through all 4 volumes. Mister Miracle part 1 and 2 are in volume 3 and parts 3 and 4 are in volume 4.

T-shirts?! We should start a support group.

Or at least get drunk over it.
