View Full Version : Final Crisis #7 Spoilers
I thought it was going good but issue #7 was a cluster------ couldn't tell what the heck was even going on towards the end.
Waaaay too complicated and Darkseid died way too easy.

lol, Totally left field, and irrelevant.. but - nice try though ? ( Actually, no. This failed attempt to express your disdain of Christianity is what will get this thread closed... like it did last night in another Final Crisis thread... )
Anyways.. back on the topic of "Final Crisis"... Darkseid actually met his demise by falling backwards through time. I still agree with you Ite.

Indeed. Plus a comparison between Darkseid's fall and Lucifer's is relevant. Hell Morrison even has Frankenstein quoting Milton to underline the point.

... out of curiosity, do you think his comment about where Christianity came from was a bit... off-topic and insulting? ( Especially seeing as.. he was quoting me... the poster who was defending his stance on Christianity just yesterday... )

I know i was talking about Darkseid, and my agreeing opinion with a fellow poster. I think his response was very left field, and thus... off-topic, and possible insulting... just my humble take on the matter.
Off topic and insulting... yes? Instead of throwing a juvenile insult right back, ( to which i am fully capable of ), i simply shrugged it off and warned him that this thread could be closed like yesterday.. thus my attempt to avert another thread derailment on the subject of Christianity. Was i out of line to do so? Please let me know...
Maybe I'm just reading it wrong, but wasn't he simply comparing Darkseid's fall through time to Lucifer's fall from grace? How is that an insult to you?

You're misrepresenting what I posted. As I've already clarified. Darkseid's fall equates to Lucifer's. You dismiss the fall from Darkseid as being absurd, yet I fail to see how it is more so than that of Satan.
Please explain.

Okay. Like i previously posted.. i was the poster that spent post defending my stance on Christianity with another poster last night, who started out preaching thast Jesus is dead, and Christians have nothing more than an imagintive friend to talk to.
This thread was deleted soon after.
Coincidence that, while i stay on topic, regardless of whether i liked Final Crisis or not... i receive yet, another anti-Christian remark, very much off topic to what i was quoted saying. Coincidence?
Christianity is NOT founded on Lucifer simply ACCIDENTALLY tripping over his laces. There was no accident at all. There were especially no laces. It was a simple cheap shot. I'd like to avert the Christianity subject, but if someone wants to keep bringing it up with me... don't you think the thread is gonna get derailed if i decided to  respond in kind?
You may see it another way...
Wow. You REALLY need to learn how to recognize a metaphor. There was absolutely no "insult" here, either to you or to Christianity.

Christianity is the basis of Western Civilization. Almost every story produced by Western culture reflects its values through one form or another. I treat it as a source myth, much as one would Norse mythology and Greek mythology.
I refer you to the post above. What is absurd about Darkseid's "biblical" fall?

Wow. Okay.
Metaphor:
Comparing the STORY of Darkseid's fall, to a false account of what Christianity is all about.
... sorry, but i recognize whats clearly wrong with that. I also see the "coincidence" of bringing it up with me. I also recognize that you do not see through it, so it's a mute point now, i guess.
( if you don't see how falsely summarizing Christianity's foundation to a supposed ACCIDENT of Satan's... i'm not sure how to further my point with you.... )
regardless, i'm talking about a clear story. To some people... Christianity is NOT a simple story...

I'm tempted to quote the introduction to the Filth again.
To tease out the meaning one last time - Darkseid's fall was commented on by Cyclops as an absurdly funny and ridiculous thing. So I treated Lucifer's fall as an absurd event. Why is there an distinction? Why the humour at the one and the shocked disapproval in reaction to the other?
Exactly what is the difference?

I stated FACT , referring to what exactly happened in the comic book. I found it absurdly funny.
You stated quite the opposite of FACT, referring to some left field assumption of what took place in the Bible. ( I'm with Harding Prime.. where is this assertion of accidents and Lucifer's laces ??? )
Different.. not to mention that one "story" has no religious affiliation... while the other does. Yes.. it's offensive. Just not to you...

No, the big question was what was on Lucifer and Darkseid's iPod when they tripped over each others shoelaces. Was it "As the World Falls Down" by Bowie or the Comsat Angels' "I'm Falling"?

Cyclops, you're not being persecuted. Someone made a goofy comment on Lucifer's fall, which, admittedly, doesn't have that much to do with Christianity proper, but nevertheless the comment was fairly innocent and hardly an insult. That's why no one else is acting like it's a big deal.

He was comparing Darkseid to Lucifer. You claimed that if he was a follower of Darkseid, then it would be "the same." The only way it would be "the same" would be if you were a follower of Lucifer.
Ohmigod. Now I'm explaining analogy.

You know, I was going to post a longer entry on Milton and Darkseid, but I decided to delay that for a bit and say:
I think some people here are being way too sensitive.
Tobias was being facetious in his post. His post was an expressive speech act, the perlocutionary effect of which was to try to compare how the Fall of Lucifer was analogous to what happened to Darkseid.
Sure, he was taking the mick out of Christianity, but as a Christian myself, I didn't find the statement offencive, though I would like to add and clarify that Christianity was established on more than that (and I'm pretty sure Tobias knows that).
Also: I don't see anyone here taking potshots at my faith, and if they are, "tripping over shoelaces" is tame compared to some of the other stuff I've heard about Christianity, and not something that one should really get worked up, over.

1) I'm not desperately trying to prove that i am insulted. Simply saying i am insulted is sufficient.
2) No, i explained that as the only way it would be the same.. because i am a follower of Christianity... which is Jesus, not Lucifer. If ( Key word IF ) he had a religious following of Darkseid... the topic at hand, then i could concede that i offended him. It's really simple, and trying to twist my words, so that i must be a follower of satan to have meaning... is beyond juvenile... but have what you will Tom.
3) Point out the pot shots? You insinuated that i must be a follower of Lucifer, when i clearly state i am a follower of Jesus.. thus defending the CORRECT Christian foundation.
4) So.. how exactly am i supposed to know when your acting in moderator status here? Would you simply boot me for having the audacity to disagree with you? Please tell me this is not some kind of threat. While i don't see you as my enemy.. i know some moderators can get personal vendettas going, and that comment can easily be perceived as a threat.
all this said, This actually makes me appreciate some of the Moderators i have come to know here on CBR. Most mods would have respectfully gone the PM route with me. As an authoritative figure, you had the option to stop this, and make it private. You didnt. ( I even told you of my attempt to avert this by simply advising not to even speak on the subject...) I appreciate what Paul Newell did last night even more... advising it to go the way of PM.
You simply see my being offended as comedy. I cannot change your mind. Nevertheless, i still acknowledge your authority... so if you think i am somehow overstepping my boundary in my attempt to defend myself... simply let me know. Otherwise..

1) Yes Tom. It is sufficient for me to tell you i am offended. It should be sufficient for you, whether you agree or not.
example. When my wife is offended by what i say, and i disagree to the point that perhaps she took it the wrong way... i acknowledge that she is offended, even though i disagree. It is sufficient. I am not asking you to agree with me on why i am offended. Just that i am.
This is simple Psychology. It does wonders for Counseling relationships as well.
2) Yes, multiple posters have come here and said it's not offensive... just as others have come and said it is. Okay. This definitely isn't a "whoever has the most" issue.
Bottom line, some things are more offensive to some, than others. It's clear you think it was appropriate. I disagree, but you are an authoritative figure here., regardless of whether you act in "mod" status or not, and thus.. some people can simply look upon you as such.
( When my Uncle is off-Duty, i still see him a a cop. When my Pastor is not preaching from the pulpit.. i still see him a a pastor. Sorry... i'm just wired to recognize authority whenever i see it. )

I am offended by your username. I trust you agree that that is sufficient and you should either apologize for it or change it. Otherwise, I might have to appeal to a moderator for a ruling.
Do you see how ridiculous that is?

I came looking for someone to tell me that my relationship with Jesus Christ was the sole consequence of Lucifer accidentally tripping over his shoe laces. This has absolutely everything to do with Darkseid's factual fall through time.
Not offensive whatsoever. Right. Gotcha.
Now that we've got that out of the way... anything else final crisis #7 related ?

I am offended by your username. I trust you agree that that is sufficient and you should either apologize for it or change it. Otherwise, I might have to appeal to a moderator for a ruling.
Do you see how ridiculous that is?
That's your problem. I am not a cop or a pastor and I'm not the moderator of this forum.
1) If you are offended by my username, then i apologize that you are offended, however, i don't think i am being offensive. Please take whatever steps you feel you need to, as i am not going to change my username. ( Hypothetical response to what i am assuming to be a hypothetical statement by you. )
2) Yes, you are not the moderator of THIS forum, but you are still apparently A mod here on CBR. Fault me if you will, for recognizing authority when i see it, and expecting accountability when i see it. It's the way i am. I am fine with you not agreeing or understanding it... but it's hardly my Problem. In fact, i find it to be a good trait in people.
so... are we done? I am trying to move past trying to make you understand me... without trying to come off as rude for ignoring your comments to me... but i seriously think were just gonna circle each other. Should i not respond to your last word? I can do that, if you want. Just know it's not me ignoring you, or being rude. Otherwise.. i have no problem continuing via PM.

You made a crack about Darkseid; he made a crack about Lucifer.
Why is Darkseid's fall hilarious?

Why is Darkseid's fall hilarious?
Because Lightray was kneeling behind him when Orion pushed him over.
Always a hoot!

You know, I was going to post a longer entry on Milton and Darkseid
I, for one, would like to read that post, when I wake up in the morning. I'm wondering how much of this debacle was caused by a failure on Cyclops' part to apprehend that Tobias was talking about Milton.*
*Not trying to put words in your mouth, Tobias. Just how I read it.

Y'know, Beetlebum's right. You looked for something to be offended by. The person that openly offended you got thanked and then ignored, but that's because he wasn't arguing with you about Final Crisis. The actual moderator of this forum has (so far) declined to respond to or take action upon your request, but the person who isn't the moderator of this forum is at fault for not taking action. You're offense is highly selective.
Why is Darkseid's fall hilarious?
Why is a Christian offended that you made a joke about the devil? The world may never know.

One last point about this.....
I didn't fancy mine much when it came to the [paraphrases] "Christianity was the result of Lucifer tripping over his shoelaces" line, either.
But I didn't take too much offence to it, mostly because I know Tobias, and I am familiar with his posting style.
I think his original intent (the illocutionary) may have been lost over semantics, and is a direct result of one of the problems of communication over the internet.
I think a better way one could have handled this situation was, instead of claiming "offence", to try to explain to others why you feel that your faith is based on more than that, and to not have claimed that others were deliberately insulting you, or to bring someone's moderator status into this.
But that's just my opinion.
Moving on....
Nathan: I'll try to get it done as soon as possible, but don't be surprised if you see the post, like, a week from now.
I am such a flaky bastard....:p
