I'm looking to buy some Marvel tpb/hc books that have come out within the past 4 years so I can easily catch up on some storylines. As you know Marvel's been putting out some big stories lately. Stuff like the incidents with Daredevil and his enemies, Annihilation, Civil War, World War Hulk, etc. If someone could give me a list of the titles of these compilation books, or where I can see a list of them myself, so I can make sure I get all of the ones I'm looking for it would be very much appreciated.

My advice to catch up, read:

Secret War
Civil War (you really only need to read the main book)
Avengers Disassembled
House of M
World War Hulk
Death of Captain America saga
Annihilation
Secret Invasion
Thor Vol. 1

That's really all you need to catchup with everything.

If you're a diehard mutant fan, you can read the Messiah Complex TPB, but I thought it and the new series that followed stunk.

In terms of excellent storylines, the ones I would suggest most are these:

Annihilation: Book 3
Thunderbolts: Faith in Monsters
Daredevil: Lady Bullseye (comes out in April)
The Death of Captain America, Vol. 3: The Man Who Bought America
Nova, vol 1: Annihilation Conquest
Nova, vol 2: Knowhere

And this wasn't important for Marvel's grand scheme of things, but is a fun, entertaining read:

Agents Of Atlas

I'm sure the other books recommended in this thread are important if you want to catch up on big stories. There's also this:

Captain America omnibus (collects issues 1-25 of Captain America, up to the death issue)

I dunno about a lot of these lists. They seem sort of slanted to one side of the Marvel Universe.

I'll recommend a couple that I've liked, at least. There's the Captain America Omnibus, which has a bunch of really good stuff in it, going right up to the death of Cap. I also really liked "Planet Hulk", which was probably the best Hulk read I've had in a long time. Lastly, the "Civil War" trade is a fun read, even if it is uneven at times. It's chock full of "moments", and that's pretty cool.

Here is another TBP/HC question that hopefully someone could answer for me.

Is there any way of knowing what books with be collected in the over-sized hardcovers?
It seems to be kind of random.

If anyone knows what the deciding factor in that is, please share.

I couldn't agree more, before the Premier hardcover came along it used to be pretty simple. About a year or so after normally 12 issues, the oversize hardcover would come out. Now it's a bit hit and miss, anything by Ed Brubaker seems to be collected as a 18-24 issue omnibus. Which makes trying to avoid what's happening in Captain America a tad difficult.

Whereas the Cosmic titles seem to be going for the 12 issue collections, please let that be true for Guardians of the Galaxy.

Got to stop now before I go into a rant.

I would rant too. I always try to get hardcovers over paperbacks because they will last longer, but it's so frustrating that there is no real way for me to know if a book will ever come out in a hardback.

I recently started getting the Peter David Hulk visionary books--which are in paperback--and I'm fearing that after I get them all they release an omnibus. Man, I will be so mad.
