So Phoenix has itself a comic con coming up next week.

Here is their site:

I have seen no industry buzz about it and am wondering why not?

It's like they only know New York and San Diego.

Well, doing it so close to the NYCC can't be very good for business.

Yeah, Phoenix and New York are like a few blocks apart.

It's actually a pretty good con, although, I'm not too crazy about the Mesa Convention Center, where it's held.

I imagine last year's attendance was like 4 or 5 thousand, by my estimation. Guests all had a good con.

What gets me, though, is that the guests of honor seem to be more of the big media types, like Wil Wheaton, and Ferigno, than comic book writers or artists. Other than Ben Templesmith, and Todd MacFarlane, I haven't heard of many names from the industry itself turning up at this year's con.

If anything, I wonder if Marvel or DC take the Phoenix Comic Con seriously, as none of their creators seem to be making the trip.

I looked around the link that was given, but I didn't see any history on the con, so maybe if it's a newer one, that's why it's not slammed with creators, writers, Joe Q, etc that we'd like to see. But they had enough pull to get a select few people that are more or less well-known to hit the ground running for future years. Like I said tho, I don't how many years it's been around, so I could be wrong.

 I meant it's being done around the time of the NYCC (which is in the beginning of February, if I'm right).

The general consensus amongst those I have spoken to is largely that it is new, so cannot draw the talent.

I think that it being so close to NY is a problem. Although many creators and insiders wouldn't really have to travel for NY at all. I wonder if the vision behind the con is lacking. The weather in Phoenix during this time might be the best for any con, ever. Even the fat guys in spandex (and it does indeed have fat guys in spandex!) don't smell too bad. Also there is great golf, although I don't know if that is a great draw for fanboys...

Ah well, I plan to support it as it will never get better without revenue. If you are in Phoenix, drop by. Lets critique it after the weekend.
