Okay so heres the story. I'm a long time marvel fan but up untill now I've been reading just ultimate marvel along with one or two regular marvel comics (wolverine,Deadpool) So as of late I have been wanting to read the regular marvel unverse lines instead of the ultimate lines. Like amazing instead of usm, Astonishing Xmen, Xforce, instead of Ultimate X men, Fantastic four instead of Ultimate fantastic four, and The avengers, The Thunderbolts, instead of the ultimates.
So my question is what do you guys think I should do. Stick with the ultimate universe or go to the marvel main lines?
Also the reason why I only want to chose one is because its easier to wrap my mind around one of them instead of two universes.

The god thing about the regualr marvel universe, is that you're not going to have to worry about it ending when sales get too low. I'm suprised it lasted as long as it has, but it's eventually just going to go the way of MC2, 2099, Heroes Reborn, the New Universe, and all that.

Mainstream Marvel all the way, man!
The Ultimate Universe is slowing going the way of the dodo bird.

It just looks like the Ultimate universe is going to the place where all the other alternate marvel universes are.
Like 2099,new universe,heroes reborn and mc2.

Please start picking up X-Force, At the least. No lie. It's wonderful.
Then the Avengers titles and Thunderbolts should follow close.
Stay away from FF for right now, it reads like an Ultimate title anyway, it's bad.

I'd drop Ultimate and stick to regular Marvel U books.
Specifically, I'd personally recommend you try Captain America, Nova, and Thor, as those are my three favorite titles.

I think the answer is pretty simple. If you like the comics you're reading, then keep reading them. If you don't, then try something else. Make sense?

Well today I picked up alot of regular marvel titles. The only Ultimate title I may continue reading is Ultimate spiderman. Thanks for the help everyone.

Funny, remember a couple years ago when everyone was freaking out about how they were going to cancel the regular line in favor of Ultimate?

I'd start at new avengers trade 1 and work through the current trade.
After the civil war arc you can then read mighty avengers trades 1-3 and also avengers initiative starts at the same time.
Young avengers is a good series as well. Try the hardcover or 2 trades for that series.
Read captain america 1-24 in trade or through the omnibus read civil war then read captain america 25 through the current trade.
Amazing spiderman is best to start with the brand new day first trade or hardcover. With amazing spiderman they created a good jumping on point a year ago. There is a lot of trades for that because each month 3 issues of amazing spiderman are released so we had a total of 36 issues of asm last year plus a brand new day extra and an annual.
For xmen try the 4 astonishing xmen trades. Astonishing xmen was a great title under cassaday and whedon. Uncanny xmen is a title I don't know much about so other x fans will be more helpful in regards to that series.
Daredevil I'd go back and read the trades in order from 1-13 (#8 is out of print) then read brubakers trades.

Well the only thing I can tell you at this point is they are canceling some of the Ultimate versions of the titles you currently read.
If you want to read the X-Men, pick up Uncanny X-Men. Fantastic Four has been great lately, I don't pull the title on a regular basis because I'm not a huge fan of the team, but it's worth a shot.
If you're really into the Avengers concept you can head a few different ways. If you want the heroes facing the most formidable odds of all time with the world against them, New Avengers is your book - but if you want an Avengery type Avengers, Mighty Avengers is the new status quo. If you want a new and totally warped, but cool version of the Avengers pick up Dark Avengers.

Thank you both for the advice, and if anyone has any advice on whether to start reading astonishing X-men or Uncanny X-men that would be very helpful.

I don't like the xmen a whole lot but astonishing xmen was really really good. Like I said in the post above go get the astonishing xmen trades 1-4. Astonishing xmen is 3 issues into the new creative team and probably won't be coming out on a monthly basis. If you want though you can just jump right into the current astonishing run.

The 616 universe stole all the early Ultimate writers that made the Ultimate books so great. LOL
Yeah, sadly, the Ultimate lines are dying. Ultimate Spidey is the only one that I still enjoy almost as much as I did the early issues.
Just don't expect leaps and bounds better in the 616 universe either because IMO, the Marvel old school line-up in general has been stale as of late.
My advice is to read #1-#30 of Captain America, maybe some of the New Avengers before Secret Invasion, Planet Hulk-World War Hulk-Rulk have all been fun, and don't forget some of the surprise hits like Incredible Hercules.

Agreed. If you liked Ultimate X-Men, Astonishing X-Men is really the only 616 title that has been as good as the Bryan K Vaughan, Mark Millar, Brian M Bendis run for Ultimate X-Men.

I like Amazing myself, but if you're already into the Ultimate Spidey book then stick with that. A friend of mine knew Spidey through the 90s cartoon and the films, and when I tried getting him into post-OMD Spidey he didn't really bite.

Thanks..again for the help. LAST! question I just picked amazing spiderman 580issue and it just didn't give me that spiderman feeling like Ultimate has. So was 580 just a bad issue compared to usual? And can someone fill me in on whats happending in ams? Like is there anything I need to know to read asm? And finally I have heard that the new ways to die arc was very good. Is new ways to die collected into trade?
If someone can anwser ALL of these questions I would be very apreciative.

that was Uncle Stern issue.
It was a vary old school style issue. and from guessing that you've only read ult meaning you are fairly young.
So he might not of jived with you yet(look for his ASM, Spectacular and Avenger works in TPB, masterworks, essentials. once exposed to more of his work you'll like it
for the time being I would recommend Slott but since you have been heavy in Ult (Slott is known as the anti-bendis) I recommend Waid's Shocker two parter and the dating issue (AKA the one with Obama in it) when it get reprinted.
Kelly's Hammerhead, Zeb wells' Mayan arc are also great.
616 Spidy is a different kind of monster then Ult.
ult has only 6 years of stories
616 spidey has 45. with muliple books.
so I would stick with Ult spidey unless you want to read back issues

Behold the power of Loeb!
Meh, it was before Loeb. In fact, I'd say it has nothing to do with the Ultimate line at all, more to do with the strength of everything else.

Don't worry about what dead x said. At the current time asm is very new reader friendly. Sure reading back issues is great but with brand new day trade 1 it is a great jumping on point. New ways to die was good but it is much better after you read brand new day trades 1-3.
