Legendary director Hayao Miyazaki (Sprited Away, Princess Monoke) has a new film heading to the US. It was already a hit in Japan with great reviews.

I'll have to see the dubbed version...my wife and daughter hate subtitles (in fairness to my daughter, she's only in 2nd grade...).

Cool. Is there a trailer or anything out there?

Currently, I have five reasons to live in 2009:

1. This one.
2. Inglorious Basterds (Tarantino)
3. The Brothers Bloom (Rian Johnson)
4. Where The Wild Things Are (Spike Jonze)
5. Shutter Island (Scorsese)

And I hope Alexander Payne gets off his talented ass soon.

I don't believe they are done with the dubbing, so here's a trailer I don't understand... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ogw0bwQOKZI

Yeah, I looked it up earlier today; there's better trailers out there. But I can't say this looks like a reason to live, personally.

Think of it like Pixar: The guy never made anything less than a wonderful movie.

I like Miyazaki as much as the next guy, but Howl's Moving Castle was so-so at best, and the trailer for this makes me want to strangle something.

It's Miyazaki, the greatest director, not animated but overall director, to ever live, I'll be there.

Y'know, Japan used to be cool. What happened?

I tease, of course, but seriously, is this really worth watching for anyone over the age of seven?

Admittedly I'm a 34 yr old man with a Totoro plushie on his desk but I say yes.

Miyazaki is able to hide a lot of depth and meaning in cuteness.

If there's no tentacle rape, it's not really Japanese.

Just watched the trailer. This one might be dogshit, actually.

Not a major anime fan, but I've enjoyed some of Miyazaki's previous work and, I must say, my lack of Japanese comprehension notwithstanding, I'm not feeling this one.
