Kevin Williamson And Wes Craven Reuniting For SCREAM 4?
Beaks here...
Ready for more self-referential horror? No? Are you quite sure about that? 'Cuz Dimension Films sure thinks you are.
Bloody Disgusting's Brad Miska is reporting that Kevin Williamson has been hired to bang out a draft for SCREAM 4. According to Miska's source (who's evidently very well placed), this might potentially turn into a shooting draft. From there, it seems possible that Wes Craven could be persuaded to come back to direct. Why? I'm told he's a big fan of the money.
Though this fourth SCREAM film will skew young (i.e. to the same teen-to-twentysomething audience that made the first one a hit), there are reportedly offers out to Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette for cameos. Seeing as how I can't remember a (EDIT Sorry mods i forgot to take out the f word) thing that happened in the third movie, I am 100% stoked for this. Here's hoping Dimension immediately follows this up with a reboot of the SCARY MOVIE franchise and a new Prinze/Lillard comedy scored by Chumbawamba.

Ditto. Sad really given how funny the first Scream was.

I can not figure out why people can get so excited for endless sequals, when all previous sequels suck. Whe do people clamor for Saw 5 or Scream 4 or insert name here 6.

I actually had the pleasure of seeing Scream at a discount theater in Spokane and I thought it was really good. Especially after stuff like A Vampire in Brooklyn, which I did not see by could sense its awfulness on the street passing by the theaters. I really needed something good to see at the time, don't ask.
It actually lived up to its name as the girls in the theater were screaming. It should be left alone atleast until the industry gets really bad and then you'll see stuff like 'Godfather: The Reckoning' and 'Kramer Versus Baragon!' Then the movie industry will truly be done anyway.
Besides:
"Scary Movies make killers more CREATIVE!"
actually for me, this too means good things.....in that I'll be awaiting the next Scary Movie installment!

One came out, straight to DVD, in 2006.
I for one am looking forward to a new Scream movie though.

One came out, straight to DVD, last year (or perhaps 2007).
I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer. I watched it on Showtime a couple weeks back and it was freaking horrible. I mean, really, really bad. However there was a cute rocker chick in most of the film that made it somewhat tolerable.

The first scream wasnt to bad and I can enjoy it on occasion, but it just got more and more self aware and pretentious with each sequel.
The last good movie craven worked on in since the first scream was red eye so I dont expect anything out of this at all. Its just a obvious money grab since there is nothing new to be done and its just beating a dead horse.
I guess after this it will be "Scream 5: In space! In space, no one can hear you scream!" and then after that it will be a prequel and then they will reboot the series and do a remake and call it something like "Scream.....again!"

Please do not put Arquette in this movie not evne for a cameo. His character was idiotic and should have been killed in the 1st movie. Loved the first Scream but n2 and specially n3 were ridiculous and made no sense.

I loved the Scream trilogy, but think that it worked well enough as a trilogy. I don't think a fourth is a hot idea.

I'm no fan of the Scream movies either, but I think the time is right for a new one. Wes Craven needs a hit after that horrible Cursed movie. And there are so many other awful horror movies coming out lately that the genre needs to be satirized once again.

I didn't find the first film that satirical really - it was a straight slasher film most of the time, it's just the characters had seen films before.
It never lived up to the opening pre-title scene with Drew Barrymore either. That was scary.

No. I've been there. But this was like early 97 or something. It was the Fox downtown, which they recently restored to its old self.
Incidently, comic related, there used to be a comic book store in the same building where Todd McFarlane once worked.

The greatest fault I find with the Scream franchise was the multitude of copycat films that emerged.
Plus Scary Movie. (shudder)

The reason I'm against this is because I don't want them to kill off Sid, Gale or Dewey.

No, there is actually going to be a new one with Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze, Jr. She mentioned it on Ellen.

I haven't seen the movies, but as I understand it, the first movie made a big deal of the characters knowing how slasher films work. The second riffed on how they up the ante for sequels and the third on how "all bets are off" when the wrap up the trilogy. So, will this movie basically riff on what happens when a movie franchise starts to over stay its welcome and become a parody of itself?

I liked the first Scary Movie a lot. It was the best Keenen Waynes movie since I'm Gonna Get You Sucka and he hasn't done another good one since.

I Agree. The opening was terrifying, but I thought the fact that two killers were involved was pretty cool. That is until the sequels ruined that.

Well 'Best' Wayans brother film is not going to be a tight contest.
Still 'Don't Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood' was better than Scary Movie.
Hell Mo Money was better than Scary Movie. Yeuch.
