I hope the imdb casting list for the King of Fighters film is wrong or else I am not happy of what Hollywood is doin with film adaptions of videogames with asian protagonists.

Just that the cast has Sean Faris as Kyo for the upcommin live action KOF movie. Just getting tired of Hollywood short changing asian characters and relisting them with caucassian actors. I wouldn't mind if this was done rarely, but it seems to be a trend lately especially how video games and anime are now being popular potential properties for live action movies. If they wanted a caucassian character as the protagonist, why not have Terry Bogard as the main character instead?

Hopefully, I am not overreacting since I can name a lot of movies that have either came out in the past few years or will be released in the next two yrs where the main character's race is changed because he is asian. Being asian american, I just want to see at least one american made film where the asian american or asian character is the main character and has his ethnicity in tact. Is that too much to ask for?

Hollywood is lame, so yeah--it probably is too much to ask. Be glad its not stupid teeny bopper casting, like them trying to give one of the Jonas brothers a movie career or some idiotic concept like that.

Not to mention that the same two or three actors seem to be the only ones FakeTown will cast when they DO use Asian actors.

For related griping (and some flames in all directions) see this fine topic (about the Avatar film): http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=249329

Well, Paul Anderson DID cast Robin Shou as Liu Kang in 1995's Mortal Kombat film!

It'll be interesting to see them explain how a white man has the name Kyo Kusanagi.

And is somehow the heir to the Kusanagi legacy. (he should at least be part japanese)

Hey, it gives another reason for Iori to hate him.

Only white people are sexy or interesting. Don't you folks know that by now?

Jeez.

I dunno. Wasn't the reason that Kyo was Asian to begin with was because he was being targeted at an Asian audience.

A different audience can warrant changes to characters or story structure.

Not really since Terry Bogard, from KOF and Fatel Fury, is SNK's mascot in Japan for some time and still is.

Kyo Kusanagi is asian not because he was targeted to at an Asian audience, but because he is intended to be a descendent based on a japanese myth called Yamata no Orochi, hence his name.

Still, the different audience can warrant changes to character doesn't work for movies like 21, which is based on a true story about an asian american, who was suddently changed to a caucassian person for the film's adaption.

True but, Mortal Kombat is FROM 1995, which is 14 years old!! The Bruce Lee story, which is from 93 has Jason Scott Lee as Bruce Lee. Since then (like 5 years ago), the trend has changed drastically. I mean other than the old Jet Li movies and the Harold and Kumar films, name one mainstream american made movie with an asian american male as the lead role? Not alot.

I don't understand Hollywood's almost irrational fear of putting Asian men in lead roles for anything that isn't a Jet-Li or a Jackie Chan film, where both of the actors play ass-kicking (but never ass-getting) machines.

Hmmm has potential.... *nods*

I remember way back when I went to comic con and some booth had a model dressed up as Mai. The model was begining the realize that Mai's costume doesn't really have to worry about things like gravity and physics in the video game.

I hope her only line in the screen test is "Mi Boingi!"

A King of Fighers movie? Really? Weren't the Street Fighter Mortal Kombat, DoA, and Double Dragon ones bad enough? I'm sure there's a good video game movie out there, like Bioshock (fingers crossed), but.. KoF?

Well, there's two more things they got wrong.
Yeah, she's a beautiful woman, but she's no Mai. Then again, Kristin Kreuk is playing Chung Li and she doesn't have giant thighs. Also, M. Bison is just some white guy (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0568180/) in a suit. I like the actor, but he's no Bison. Hell, at least the Raul Julia movie got his look right even if the tone was totally off. Guess they're. Going all Batman Begins.

What I like is when they have a Mexican play a Middle Eastern. Then again in X-men Last Stand they had a Middle Eastern woman, accent and all, play an Indian so I guess it all balances out.

I thought MK was a decent tournament-style martial arts flick, really. KoF actually has a pretty involved story, so that might help.

Uck. Don't remind me. They kind of neutered everything that would make anyone want to see a Street Fighter movie to begin with (not terribly dissimilar to my feeling with Begins)

Except Batman Begins was a fabulously successful film that was loved by millions and Street Fighter was, well, not.

I wasn't clear, but I was referring to my reaction to the new SF movie trailer, which was pretty devoid of anything significantly "Street Fightery" and kinda sapped my excitement. That was precisely my reaction to Nolan's first Batman film, which didn't feel nearly Batman-y enough for me.
