Hello there! You’re looking well!
I’m Tom Brevoort, Marvel’s Executive Editor. And I’ve got a fun event going on over at my blog on Marvel.com.
It all started with me thinking about how trading, which used to be a huge part of our hobby, has kind of fallen by the wayside. Where once almost every comic book might be traded for another comic book somewhere down the line, these days they’re more likely to be bagged and boarded and stuck into a long box somewhere. That’s kind of sad, really—it takes one of the elements of our hobby that promotes interaction and companionship and tosses it away.
So thinking about this, I decided to start a game. I took five random Marvel comics from the spinner rack in my home, and I’m working to see if, through swapping with fans all over the globe, I can get to the point where I possess a FANTASTIC FOUR #1 by the end of 2009.
It’s going great so far. I’ve already traded away every one of the initial five books, and have a small stack of cool swag to show for it. But I’m still a long way from an FF #1. And that’s where you come in.

And if there’s something there you’d like to trade for, just drop me a line at tbrevoort@marvel.com. No money will be exchanged—this is purely a swap meet, your comics for mine. But it is a good way to get some cool comics that you don’t already have, and to experience the fun of trading with your fellows. You’ll also get an official Certificate of Meaninglessness with every trade we conduct, which is practically worth the price of a trade all by itself.
Best of all, when this whole experiment is finished, succeed or fail, the books that remain in the stack will be donated to the HERO Initiative, to be auctioned off to benefit comics creators in need. So not only will you be having some fun and getting some neat books, you’ll also be contributing to a good cause!
So swing on by, take a look at what’s presently in the stack, and offer me a swap. It won’t be a party without you!
