I didn't see a Mimic Thread anywhere, so here it is.

I like the Mimic and hope one day he can be used in a better capacity like a trainer for the New X-Men.

Discuss this here.

Starting off, which Mimic costume would look the best?

I prefer the scruffy version myself. Mimic should always look like a quasi-homeless person because, let's face it, the only reason the guy's not a major player on the superhero/villain scene is because he can't get his shiz together. He's one of the potentially most powerful beings on the planet -- hell, he permanently has the powers of two omega mutants -- but he's a joke. And I say that with a lot of love, because I really like the character, but nobody takes him seriously. If anything Exiles Mimic only serves to highlight the differences between what he could be, and what the 616 version actually is. No control, no ambition.

That said, if I were a comic writer, I would looove to get ahold of him for a miniseries. Lots of stuff that could be done with his abilities, and plenty of lost years to fill in.

I like the Evolution look, t-shirt and jeans.

To me it seems more streamline, except I think a black t-shirt is a more little edgy.

The Exiles costume looks more battle ready and useful in a super fight, than jeans and a t-shirt.

It can vary. Some artist charge $40, $60, or sometimes $100-200.

I started getting commissions in the fall of 2006.

I got a lot of them from San Diego Con 07.

For artists I couldn't see a Con, I've sent emails and asked politely to be put on a list. Sometimes it works and some times not.

Wow, that's pretty badass. I was at one point planning to make my own Marvel Legends Mimic (Weapon X Wolverine body, Iceman arms, Angel wings, Doctor Octopus' goggles), but eventually I realized I had no idea how to go about doing it and no time to devote to it. C'est la vie.

when was the 616 mimic last seen? falling out of the sky right before revolution?

edit: btw, i'm surprised www.uncannyxmen.net hasn't done a spotlight on him yet. seems like an easy one to get through, especially if he hasn't appeared in 8-9 years.

His second-to-last appearance was with the Brotherhood, losing all the powers he'd absorbed, during the High Evolutionary's de-mutanting. His last appearance occurred during Civil War when the Thunderbolts were capturing/recruiting an army of supervillains- Mimic (with Angel's wings back) was shown in a stasis tube in the background, but did not appear in the storyline after that.

In Civil War House of M # 3 & 4, Mimic is a S.H.I.E.LD. and was trained by to be a part of an elite strike force -- led by Captain America's former partner, Bucky Barnes.

616 Mimic was seen in the Official Index to the Marvel Universe 001 2009.

A good read if you want information about the early days of the Marvel Universe. 1st appearances and where they appeared next - mapping and keeping the comics in a perfect timeline.

I'm so glad to see I'm not the only Mimic fan out there. I love Mimic's potential, either as a hero or a villain, but hate that no one uses him. I mean he doesn't just Mimic mutants, but any superhuman, so the potential is limitless.

That's why I was so happy when Exiles Mimic showed up, and was crushed when he was killed.

616 Mimic was the first X-man to become a villain too I believe (not counting X-men who were villains first, like Changeling or Magneto, or those who were possessed like Polaris by Malice).

Seeing him in HoM Civil War is great, and it seemed the writer really grasped his potential. Pity Mags still kicked his ass.

We should bagder writers in every interview about him, and continually send questions into X-Position asking for the writers to use him. Eventually they'll cave.

Awesome thread and LOOK at all these pics!! Very nice!

Hopefully we will see more of my main man Calvin in 616. His appearance in Civil War: House of HoM #3 and #4 was promising. It showed some writers are still willing to use him no matter how short his appearances are. :frown:

As for which version of him I like best? Hmmm...well for 616 it has to be the scruffy version, but maybe the artists could give him a tidy up like in HoM.

The main reason I think writers don't like to use him though is the power level and the amount of powers he can copy. See in Exiles they sorted that all out, five powers, half the strength and he can keep them for as long as he wants. In 616 however its a proximity thing and there is no amount to the number of powers he can copy.

I mean can anyone imagine 616 Mimic living at the school? He would a power house....until end of term.

I figure, he can copy only 5 powers at a time. However, he still retains the original 5 as his own powers - so he can swap back to them even though they aren't around.

A writer could reduce him to Exiles Mimic status, saying he can have more control over them if his abilities are cut in half.

Interesting theory. I guess it depends on how many powers he's been shown using at the same time. I remember in that Excalibur story, he copied Kitty's phasing (and ninja skills), Colossus' steel skin, Nightcrawler's teleportation, fur, and tail, and Douglock's techno-organic nature all at once, while still maintaining Angel's wings. That's 5 right there, but I can't remember if he used any other powers at the same time, which would either confirm or disprove the theory, I suppose.

Part 1

Inside the cover is the profile of the Mimic in the recap page.
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g87/betaflight/mimicprofile.jpg

In X-Force # 46, the Mimic absorbs Warpath's powers. In theory he swapped out Iceman's powers for Warpath and goes back to them, due to the nature of Warpath's abilities.

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g87/betaflight/X-Force46p07.jpg

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g87/betaflight/X-Force46p08.jpg

The same thing happens again with the Mimic and Sunspot later in the issue.

MIMIC616

Part 2

While on the cover Excalibur # 123, it shows the Mimic using all the original 5 powers + Shadow Cat, Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Douglock. Making the total to 9 powers at once.

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g87/betaflight/Excalibur123-00-1.jpg

During the issue the Mimic adapts Nightcrawler, Shadow Cat, and Colossus.
Possibly replacing them for Iceman, Beast, and Marvel Girl powers.

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g87/betaflight/Excalibur123-15.jpg

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g87/betaflight/Excalibur123-16.jpg

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g87/betaflight/Excalibur123-20.jpg

Except the Mimic's appearance is not the same as the cover, making the case he didn't absorb Douglock's abilities.

Douglock used his powers to overload the Mimic and save his teammates from him instead.

Making this theory seem plausible, I hope this helped.

This is what's confusing about 616 Mimic's powers. As the Excalibur issues show, he dosen't just copy powers but the person's skills as well (e.g. Kitty's ninja skills.) Also if anyone has seen Marvel Presents #59-61 (I think) where Mimic is brought back from the brink of death by being in close proximity to Wolverine, he actually turns into Wolverine! So it's hard to identify the range of his abilities.

However he can copy more than five powers at one time as HoM Mimic showed.

Part 2

In Marvel Presents # 61 it's revealed a machine Cal's father built is keeping his powers in check and possibly stuck on Wolverine.

The Mimic doesn't want to be dependent on the machine to have powers. Wolverine sends him to find himself at a temple.

Mimic reappears in X-Force # 45, having his powers no longer dependent on a machine, but having them as his own.
Retaining the original 5 powers he first absorbed, he can't control his mimicing - like the first time he got his powers.

As for House of M - Mimic, you got me. Too many powers at once.

What? Cal never had to depend on the machine to keep his powers. His father created the thing to remove his powers, where as Cal though it was made to help him keep the powers he mimiced.

However I don't understand the reason he appeared in X-Force #45 having the powers of the original X-Men. Since he lost those twice!

Magic. I want to say magic, lol.

I just reread the MCP # 61, pages above state that the machine was keeping Cal's powers under control within a certain range. Cal didn't want to be dependent on that machine to keep his powers under control. So Wolverine informs him about what helped him gain control over his powers. Cal is sent to a temple practice his own control over his powers.

My bad, I didn't double check my previous post before.

As for his original 5 powers "magically" reappearing - maybe another flare up?

His body/genetic remembered what first super powers trigger his abilities and decided to be a permanent reminder of what Calvin's lost?

Onslaught could have switched his powers on high making them out of control?

So what powers does Mimic have now? When Mimic appeared in Uncanny X-Men #379, the High Evolutionary's anti-mutant wave removed the power templates of the five original X-Men from Calvin's body. Did he get those powers back after the Evolutionary's satellite was disabled?

Is it 5 abilities he can have or 6?

As many as he wants. Unlike Exiles Mimic, 616 Mimic duplicates as many powers as there are superbeings around him, whether that's 1 or 20. However, he seems to lose control the more powers he copies. He's also not limited to powers, so he possesses all of the skills and knowledge of those around him as well. (It was explained in his origin that that's how he got so arrogant- he was automatically as smart as all of his teachers, as athletic as the greatest athlete around him, etc.) And he doesn't copy them at half power like Exiles Mimic.

On the downside, 616 Mimic hasn't shown the ability to consciously choose which powers to keep like Exiles Mimic can, and is prone to getting overloaded. Plus, he looks like he kinda smells.

I love Mimic he has great potential but noone really knows what to do with him cause he originally wasn't really good or bad just kind of a jerk.

I love the Exiles version he was kick ass.

Hed be great in Legacy working as Xaivers body guard/student. It would be a little redemption for Charles to get a little bit of closure with his past helping one of his first students who he couldnt help. Also honestly Charles is a teacher, when was the last time he taught anyone?

I dont count Excalibur v.III because you cant teach people in 12 issues.

Isolationist (X-Factor)
Abilities: Possesses the powers of all living mutants.

Synch (Generation-X) - Deceased

Xavier could use some better help and the Mimic would be a good choice.

I find it surprising that the Mimic has had a good history with Xavier after he left the X-Men. The Mimic worked for Onslaught, who was Xavier at the time.

Helped break Xavier out of the Zero Tolerance base and even though Xavier was depowered, he still stepped up and protected him against Cerebro.

Ask if any of Magneto's followers would stick by him now that he's depowered.

I wouldn't really consider Melee and Spinner all that similar to Mimic, they aren't really copying anyone, Melee is just a master of fighting, and Spinner's powers were her own, she was like an iPod randomly shuffling through songs.

Taskmaster I can understand since he needs to see a fighting style or move in order to copy it.

Also no mention of Rogue?

I like it!

or The Juggernaut had a buzzing in his brain when Xavier awoke out of his coma.
Calvin also had that buzzing and decides to help Xavier on his journey.

Gambit and Rouge were both in the X-Men during the “Hunt for Xavier” story, so they would have already met the Mimic.

Now that I think about it, bring in Marrow with her powers restored this could be even more fun!

I would say the Mighty Avengers.

Lots of Avengers who could use some back up.

Scarlet Witch - He knows about powers going out of controls.
Hulk - Almost killed him, made up and teamed up with him.
US Agent - Second Bananas to the originals.
Jocasta - Fought against Machine Man, outsider of outsiders.
Iron Man - He's been on the wrong side of the law.
Hercules - Arrogant jerk meet the original one!
Amadeus, Vision, and Stature - Young Heroes need training.

616 Mimic can hold more than 5 powers, right?

The answer from Marvel.com
http://www.marvel.com/universe/Mimic_(Calvin_Rankin)

The number of powers or people he can mimic are unknown or if he can keep the powers he copies indefinitely. He has been shown to be able to copy the abilities of over 10 people at once.

Unfortunately it's not proven if Cal has to switch out any of his original 5 power inorder to use a new one.

I only state this theory so Cal's powers are less confusing, unlike the answer that is on marvel's site.

Wolverine's powers have claws and healing, but count as one power slot. Jean's telepathic and telekinetic powers count as one. So he has both powers.

Yes, Cal has used Jean's powers a bunch of times.

I got say the 616 is my fav.

He's got glitches, backstory hitcups, and odd costumes.

I like the potential; the character could become anything Exiles Mimic, a brotherhood member, X-Man, or out on his own teaming up with anyone.

If he mimicked Madrox he could be on all the teams. lol.

If Mimic mimicked Madrox's powers and multiplied himself
would the dupes have the O5 powers?
If so, he could be a formidable foe that way
just something I imagined though...

I'm pretty glad House of M Civil War showed off how badass Mimic can be.

I think writers may be a bit scared by his convoluted powers. If only someone could come along and simplify them, maybe saying he had to switch out one of his 6 permanently imprinted powers to mimic someone else's powers.

I like the exiles mimic. He only had 5 powers at a time and they were at 1/5 strenght. Plus, he can change them out. That makes a rounded character, not too superpowered and enough changeable things to flow.

Exiles Mimic was the best version of the Mimic around! A simple history, mutant, powers, and heroic nature.

HEROES - Peter Petrelli

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g87/betaflight/PeterPetrelliandMimic.jpg

Character History

http://heroeswiki.com/Peter_Petrelli

Powers:

Original ability: Empathic mimicry (lost) - 616 Mimic (scan and retain more than one.)
Current ability: Ability replication (synthetic) - Rouge (touch and only retain one power.)

http://heroeswiki.com/Empathic_mimicry

Peter is the Mimic in a normal world. I know Heroes isn't the best plot written show. I like that I get to see Peter = Mimic on the TV.

After the events of episodes (Dying of the Light) and (Dual), Peter is no longer too powerful and is now only able to use a power one at a time.

The 616 Mimic and Peter Petrelli powers can be fixed - its the person who you root for!

I asked Mike Carey if he ever had any plans for Mimic in X-Men Legacy. Turns out he does, or at least did until they decided to change the title's direction after this current arc. He said now they may not have the opportunity. The fact that he's even considered using him is a good sign though.

That's funny.

I've always been a huge fan of Mimic. For whatever reasons the whole thing from the goofy outfit to the powers struck my imagination as a kid when he fight the X-Men. I'm not a huge fan of the pretty boy version of the character. The original look and outfit is so unique, why mess this up.

I say give Mimic his own book! I would like to see something in the line of what was done with the Azrael when Morrison/Millar wrote the book, yet more mainstream.

Does Mimich have to get other people's powers through touch
or is it as simple as being near them?
How close to someone would he have to be to mimic someone?
What's the longest distance he can do it from?

He doesn't have to touch them, just be near them. He's usually shown as having to be within a few feet/yards of them to initially duplicate their power, but then can maintain it until they move more than about a mile away from him; then he loses it. (With the exception of the original X-Men's powers, which he's permanently retained.)

If Rogue and Mimic fought, Could Rogue absorb Mimic's abilities
or would him mimicking Rogue's powers neutralize her touch like it did with Rogue vs Scrambler?

Also, can Mimic copy someone's powers while they're unconcious? Here's an example:
Say he's fighting Storm and knocks her out. Could he still Mimic her while she's knocked out?

Most definitely,Justin. In his first couple of appearances in Uncanny he only needed to be within a certain area of the person to imitate their power. He could not choose to imitate it.His body automatically developed the power.I get the feeling in eary issues of Uncanny this imitation radius may have been a couple of miles(?).Touch was not necessary to develop the power.

Part 1: My idea for the 616 Mimic timeline to current events.

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g87/betaflight/brth_hood.jpg

After the events of “Hunt for Xavier,” the Brotherhood remains without Xavier.

X-51 # 1&2 – Mystique hires the Brotherhood to find Machine Man’s head. Machine Man reboots with a LMD body and becomes X-51. Defeating the Brotherhood.

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g87/betaflight/X5102p05.jpg

X-51 # 6 – Val Cooper, frees the Mimic in exchange for some information.

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g87/betaflight/X5106p05.jpg

Val Cooper turns the Mimic into an undercover agent for the CSA.

Uncanny X-Men # 379 - The Mimic brings the Brotherhood back together to help him. Until, the High Evolutionary cancels out all the mutant powers making Mimic the only one with powers.

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g87/betaflight/mutantnomore2.jpg

Mimic regains his entire powers and begins posing as other villains gathering super-powered criminal information.

MIMIC616

Part 2:

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g87/betaflight/img022.jpg

Thunderbolts # 103 – The Mimic was arrested by Thunderbolts and released his after CSA identity was revealed.

During Secret Invasion, he was denied a teaching position with the Avengers Initiative, thanks to the Skrulls on base.
The Mimic fights the Super Skrulls during the Invasion.

Dark Reign Mimic:

Emma Frost brings the Mimic in to train the Young/New X-Men.

The Mimic being there could upset the balance between Cyclops and Emma Frost’s secrets or Norman forces the Mimic into training the villains he put away.

Now I know alot of people will be tempted to say "Just look at the Exiles version and there's your answer" BUT the two are different e.g. powers (half strangth, up to 5 powers) background (father never died and lived in a cave) species (Exiles was a mutant, 616 is not)

Mimic 012 - Everything is in there, but they make a strong case that Mimic 012 can be brought back to life thanks to Deadpool's healing powers he had absorbed.

Cal helps Polaris adjust to live with the X-Men, after Magneto's capture. While Havok is being molded into Cyclop's second in command. The new stronger

what if...

What if ... the Mimic's powers were restored and he stayed with the X-Men?

Part I
> The Mimic continues to lead the X-Men, and when they're captured by the "Island that Walks like a Man", it's Calvin who is released and saves the original X-Men with the help of the all-new, all-different X-Men.

> Recalling the attitude he had when he first joined the X-Men, Calvin reaches out to Sunfire, persuading him not to leave the X-Men, and the X-Men move forward with a lineup of the Mimic, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Wolverine, and Sunfire.

> The Mimic's romantic evening with Storm is interrupted when she, Wolverine, and Sunfire are abducted by Sentinels. After the 3 X-Men are rescued from the space station, Storm flies the shuttle back to earth, becoming a host for the Phoenix force in the process.

> Storm becomes Dark Storm during the X-Men's conflict with the Hellfire Club. Dark Storm's actions lead the X-Men to duel with the Shi'ar Imperial Guard, and when Storm sees the Mimic injured, she becomes Dark Storm again. In order to avert the destruction of the entire solar system, Mimic takes it upon himself to slay his beloved.

> The burden of ending Storm's life in order to save everyone drives the Mimic to leave the X-Men who are soon joined by first Shadowcat and then Rogue. When Calvin rejoins the X-Men, he becomes involved with Rogue, and the relationship enables him to overcome the guilt that had been poisoning him.

> The Mimic becomes emotionally crippled when his and Storm's daughter from an alternate future arrives to prevent the fatal historical moment that had disastrous consequences for mutants. Unable to cope with the Mimic's inner turmoil, Rogue ends their relationship and leaves the X-Men.

> Wolverine temporarily leads the X-Men during their adventure in Asgard, of which the Mimic and Storm's daughter took part, and their battle with the Marauders. Without Calvin's leadership, Cyclops acts as the headmaster of the school, and the X-Men are joined by Colossus' sister Magik, Dazzler, and the enigmatic Gambit. Rogue rejoins the X-Men as well.

> The X-Men begin a search for the Mimic and encounter the Adversary. A rivalry develops between the Mimic and Gambit for Rogue's affection in the midst of the melee, and the X-Men sacrifice their lives to power the spell that defeats the Adversary.

> Thanks to Roma, the X-Men live again and continue their work while the world at large believes they’re dead. A relationship blossoms between Dazzler and the Mimic, the X-Men battle the Reavers, the Brood, the Goblyn Queen (Jean Grey), and S’ym. During Inferno, the X-Men are reunited with X-Factor and learn that Storm is alive, prompting the Mimic to dump Dazzler.

This is the premise that hinges whether he is in fact the single most powerful mutant. Should he be able to control unlimited powers, and if there is a further evolution in his potential that may someday hold onto the power and allow him to remove the powers of his opponent at the same time (ala Apocolypse) he would be unstoppable.

Ah, but the first problem with that is 616 Mimic is NOT a mutant .That was always a mistake I felt on Stan Lee's part, is kinda excluded him from the X-Universe. Judd Winnick did it right when he made Mimic from Exiles a mutant and slightly altered his power setting.

I think it really depends on the kinda of mutant/superhuman he comes into contact with and the nature of their powers. As we've seen he couldn't handle Warpaths and Sunspots powers very well, however later when he battled excalibur he had no problem handling nightcrawlers, colossus and kitty's powers.

This is on Wikipedia.....

'The original Mimic as created by Stan Lee and Werner Roth was not a mutant, but received his powers after breathing in some gas during an explosion in his father's laboratory. Later X-Men writer Scott Lobdell claimed it merely awakened and enhanced Mimic's latent mutant powers, but this point is never made in the comics themselves and remains a point of discussion.'

I must admit i like Lobdell's claims, it would make him fit more in the X-Men universe.

Most fans seem to think Lobdell's claim was fairly harmless but an overall pointless retcon. If the X-Men are fighting for coexistence between humans and mutants and claiming that the X-gene is an incredibly tiny, minor genetic difference that doesn't make them an entirely new species, then it's only reasonable that they should have non-mutant colleagues and team members, from Stevie Hunter and Tom Corsi to Mimic and Longshot and Omega Sentinel. If the X-Men never hang around with non-mutants, they're failing their own mission statement. Since they used to invite non-mutants like Spider-Man to join them back in the day, I'm really enamored of the idea that their first new recruit was a non-mutant. Definitely glad the "latent mutant" thing was never made canon.

I totally agree and I originally thought that was the reason Stan Lee had Mimic as a non mutant.

Apart from Mimic how many other non mutants have been members of the X-Men?

Longshot, Juggernaut and Omega Sentinel. Arguably also Psylocke, but it's debatable... she's half Otherworlder, and her twin brother Brian's powers come from his Otherworld heritage. However, it's been noted that telepathy is a rare power for Otherworlders to have, so she might be a mutant Otherworlder.

If you count the satellite teams there's Warlock of the New Mutants, Widget and Feron (and sometimes Meggan, depending on the writer) of Excalibur, Prosh of X-Force, Gaia of Generation X, Shard of X-Factor (and Val Cooper if you count her as a team member). Probably others that I'm forgetting.

See I disagree with the Exiles qualities part because we don't know what his personality is going to be like. The hair has been dyed, that much we do know, but the Angel costume would suggest Osborn is taking the same path he did was the Dark Avengers (i.e. have "villains" dress up as heroes)

We can pretty much expect Mimic to look pretty much like this:

Is this confirmed? A google search gave me this additional listing (http://comicdomain.wordpress.com/2009/05/17/dark-avengers-vs-uncanny-x-men/), but nothing that looks "official" so far.

Reminds me of Civil War, didn't it also end with a "confession" one-shot? Would be a shame if Dark X-Men does not last any longer than this.

It's not even just superpowered beings, it's any being, period. The reason he's so arrogant is that in school, he automatically knew everything the teachers did and was as good at any particular sport as the best athlete within range. Anything you can do, he can do... well, not necessarily better, but exactly as well, at least.

Examples of duplicating non-mutants include when his powers and the Super-Adaptoid's powers cancelled each other out, and when he almost died from gamma radiation poisoning after being near the Hulk.

Well it looks pretty much how I imagined it would going by the Dark Avengers #7 cover, however I'm glad Mimic's new look is incorporating Iceman's powers. In the past Beast, Cyclops and Angels powers were always the more visible and apparent.

Still I can't wait to see what Fraction does with the character, he really seems to understand Mimic he goes on about Calvin's ego, which is something I always loved about him in his original appearances with the X-Men. Plus the 'M's all over his new costume seem to show how much Calvin wants to be recognised.

Still, I have my worries that he'll be killed off during the Utopia arc. :frown:

I find it kinda ironic that Mimic is posing in a costume very similar to Angel's as Mimic was Angel's tempoary replace whilst he was a member of the X-Men, due to Angel having an injury caused by Cyclops.

Also, has anyone else heard about Mystique being a member or posing as a member of the Dark X-Men? If this is true I have a sneaky suspicion it'll be Mimic she pretending to be. :frown:

How can mystique pose as Mimic? She can't use the powers of the original X-folk or the powers of anyone she morphs into. you have nothing to worry about (unless I missed something with Mystique)

The logical answer would be Xavier. Her mind is strong enough to not be read by Emma so it would be logical. I know that once Emma finds out about a mystique presence there gonna be a girl fight!

Unless we don't see Calvin utilize his powers, I'm sure he's fine.

I'd have to agree with the other poster saying it's her as Xavier.
Rogue doesn't know about Xavier's repowerment from what I understand
and the rest, well they haven't really had any part in the X-books, minus Emma, but her knowing would be obvious..

Mimic's backstory gets a fresh coat of paint.

The Puppet Master takes control of the Mimic panel: The look on Cal's face is hilarious!

Are you sure that's Puppet Master? Looks pretty much like Xavier to me.

Chances are its when Xavier erased Cal's memory of the X-Men and their identites.

Anyway the art looks great and I cannot wait for this.

Starting off, which Mimic costume would look the best?
Evolution:
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g87/betaflight/mimicfull02.jpg

I prefer the Evolution look. There aren't much heroes out their who fight without an "outstanding" costume (besides the Runaways, who fight in their street clothes), and I generally liked this look. The others were ridiculously cheesy.

Well....now I just feel stupid.

Anyone come up with any reasons yet as to why Mimic is crawling out the ground in the Dark X-Men beginning preview?

The only thing I can think of is that he's been killed (again) off panel.

My two big concern's are Mimic will survive long enough to reach September and also if he does what'll become of him. :frown:

I find it quite annoying that people keep saying Mimic will die in this crossover. Have you people no hope? Do you really think hes on the team to just be Canon fodder?

I just don't get it. There is some great character story there with Mimic and he was very popular in Exiles.......i just don't see it.

He hasn't been written a lot, he has potential...

Mimic Potential: Original 5 Combined Powers.

Cyclops + Iceman: Alter his surroundings, Enemies are easier to hit once they have nowhere to run.
Cyclops + Jean Grey: Move targets into the line of fire. Move objects allowing the beam to bounce in different directions.
Cyclops + Beast: Longer stamina to maintain an optic blast.
Cyclops + Angel: Angel's eyes have hawk-like vision. Making him a sharpshooter with an optic blast.

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g87/betaflight/NewExcalibur02_16.jpg

Anime style attacks (naruto shippuden or full metal alchemist):

Iceman + Beast: Able to lift and throw heavier ice constructions. Ice Armor.
Able to make ice weapons to fight.
ex: Giant ice ninja stars. Ice swords.

Jean Grey + Iceman: Ice Clones. Large or small figures connected and moved through TK to fight more enemies at once. Turning his wings into giant ice fists and striking at enemies.

Iceman + Angel: Dropping large ice boulders or ice creations from above.

Listen, I don't want Mimic to die during this "Dark" X-Men arc, but with the Uncanny X-Men, Dark Avengers and the Dark X-Men going head to head there has to be some casualties

I hope not.

As long as the Mimic's near people with types healing factor like:

Elixir, Iceman, Dark Beast, Beast, Toad, Cannonball, Wolverine, X-23, Daken, Namor, Weapon Omega, Marvel Boy, Sentry, Ink (he could draw a medic symbol), Anole (grow some limbs back), Madison Jefferies(robots keeping him alive), Northstar, Wolfbane, Warpath, Graymalkin (coma powers), and Random.

Or Domino.

Also, Uncanny X-Men # 514, looks like the Dark X-Men fights robots. So they made be fighting the X-Club.

Came across this very nice collection of work by Jesse Delperdang, over at deviantart.com, who is doing the art for Mimic's story in Dark X-Men: The Beginning #1 on the 8th July.

It's baisically some samples of the art we can expect to see in Mimic's story.

Enjoy Mimic fans!

So as someone who hasn't really knowingly ever read a comic with Mimic in it, would you guys like to recommend a good issue for me to read that would explain why you like the character so much?

If you have a few different ones, I generally find personalities more interesting than powers or feats - so one that gives a good psychological insight into the character would be appreciated

cheers

Totally agree with what your saying about a characters personality.

The issues I would recommend would be:

Uncanny X-Men #19

Uncanny X-Men #25 - #27

X-Force #47

Excalibur #123

OR for something abit different try:

Exiles #1 - #71
Hope this helps.

Thank you. I'm not going to go and pick up 71 issues of Exiles, but I should have the Uncanny ones collected somewhere. I'll try and dig them out. Thanks!

So I'm just wondering how Mimic fans feel about Mimic crawling out of his grave in the previews we've seen of Dark X-Men: The Beginning #1?

Are you a little bummed that Calvin has died a second time?

From the preview pic I showed a couple of posts ago I'm guessing Calvin may have killed someone (accidently maybe?) and gotten executed.

Any thoughts on this?
