What do you mean by 5? You're missing one. While I love the entire franchise, I really think it's all about Rocky and Rocky Balboa for me. The other four are just good filler.

I bet they will make another one where his son boxes one day, why not the legacy needs filling...

As far as whole movies, one is still my favorite. I have yet to see Rocky Balboa. I really enjoyed the street fight between Rocky and Tommy in part 5. But I've enjoyed all of the final battles in the series.

Go rent Balboa. It'll kind of hit you over the head with nostalgia but it really is a good movie. As for his son getting in the ring.....probably not.

Lol, Rocky Jr. going into the ring... How 'bout we end the series on a high note, and let Rocky Balboa be the last Rocky movie. No one wants to see another Rocky V.

4 and 5 are defintly the best. I love how in 5 they show how even the biggest star can fall.

Guh, the only thing good about 5 were the ghostly shots of Mick yelling at Rocky from the grave.

Rocky Balboa was a great movie and I kid you not, I thought Stallone could've been Oscar nominated for his performance.

Well I'm not sure about Oscar nominations, but he did give me a gut punch when he broke down at the meat plant with Pauly.

Rocky and Rocky Balboa (and Rocky II to a lesser extent) almost seem like they belong to another movie series (a better one). I like the others for what they are, but "Rocky as the champ" wasn't nearly as interesting as "Rocky the hard-luck lug." For some reason V just didn't connect despite trying to return to that mold.
When the movies became less about Rocky as a character and more about the "big bad" he had to face, they lost something.
Either way, I'd highly recommend Rocky Balboa. A worthy addition to the series. But yeah, Rocky Jr. hopping into the ring doesn't seem likely, especially after watching that movie.

Agree with this 100%. I wasn't expecting a great deal when i went to see it but was blown away by how good the movie was and Stallone should have at least been nominated for an oscar and Burt Young was deserving of a nod as well.

Nailed it on the head.
To be honest, I was never a huge fan of Rocky until Rocky Balboa came out. I had seen them all before on TV and enjoyed them well enough, but Rocky Balboa really brought something to the series that made it feel so... complete. I still think 3, 4, and 5 are just "meh" (especially 5), but without them 6 might not have been quite as good as it turned out to be.
But the story is complete. Let's not pull a "Hollywood" and ruin a good thing.

Absolutely agreed. Stallone's one of the most underrated actors of all time.
My thoughts on the series.
Rocky: One of my favorite movies of all time, by far. Everything about this movie was just incredible. 5/5
Rocky II: Really good sequel, and is able hold up against the original. Adrian waking from her coma is still one of my all time favorite moments in movies. 5/5
Rocky III: Not a big fan of it. Mr. T was good, but the rest just seemed a little sloppy. Granted, I haven't seen it in years. 3/5
Rocky IV: One of my all time favorite movie sequels. This is a man's man's man's man's movie right here, folks! 5/5
Rocky V: Ugh. Just... just ugh. 1/5
Rocky Balboa: Best Rocky sequel, and another one of my all time favorites. Other than the ending(Rocky losing?! WTF?!?!), it was almost a perfect ending for the series. 5/5

No.No, the ending for Rocky Balboa was just perfect. It was never about winning the fight,it was about 'How hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward' Besides an outright win would have been crazy.

Agreed, Rocky losing in Balboa suited the movie much better than if he had won. Perhaps Toku King was just joking, though...?

I know it helps the messages, but having him winning his last match would just make more sense. Screw the point, the average Rocky fan/moviegoer wants to see Rocky win in his final match, not lose, as did I and everyone I know. Hell, he was obviously the winner as it is. Mason had the first few rounds, but as hard as they tried to make it look even, Dixon was getting his ass beat.

Why would I be joking? I'd prefer Rocky to win. That way he could end on a good note, and when challenged can finally say "no thank you" without any temptation.

You do remember that Rocky lost in the first movie too, right?
Rocky "won" in every way that mattered in Rocky Balboa, and the movie makes that clear. Plus, it manages to maintain a semblance of realism by handicapping the younger champion (breaking his hand) and not trying to get us to buy that the 60ish Rocky is going to beat a guy that's younger, faster, and clearly a heavy-hitter himself (given the brevity of his fights).
To put it another way: I wouldn't have felt any better about the movie if Rocky had technically won the fight. Rocky's victory was complete no matter how you sliced it.

What's your point? They made an alternate ending where Rocky won, big whoop. What does it say to you that they didn't use it?

That they wanted to homage the first? My friends and I saw both endings, and as amazing as RB is, we all preferred the alternate ending.

Mine was a reply to the weak point made in the post before yours. I'm not going to argue with you about your opinion, if you liked the Rocky Wins ending more you're entitled to it. Some of us prefer the ending we got, where it was about going the distance again.
And let's face it, Rocky winning in the video game was where it really counted. The rest of the film is icing.

Yes, that's why I say an outright win would be crazy. The win by decision in the alternate ending wasn't crazy. I get why people wanted him to win, but having him lose just brings everything full circle.

I actually just watched it agian today. Oddly enough, I agree with Toku King. The thing with Rocky Balboa is that it didn't sell the "it just matters that he got through" aspect of it as well as the first Rocky did. I've never seen the alternate ending, but in the regular ending, he was already walking away before the winner was announced. If he had won, while already off, it would have sold that aspect even more, I think.

It says they made a choice but wanted to give the fans who wanted a Rocky win a bit of a salve. Jeez, have a conniption.

If you'd said that in the first place, maybe you would've saved yourself a "conniption." As it is, it read to me like you were saying "You are aware they made an ending where Rocky won, right?" like that alone was supposed to sway their opinion.

I'd say Two or Three. Four would be my least favorite. That Russian belonged on Sci Fi. Killing Apollo in a movie no better than that was stupid and wasteful. Why doesn't somebody make the Apollo Creed Story. The premise could be that someone was makinga docuementaryabout Apollo with Interviews with Rocky, Apollo's wife and Apollo's corner people. You could have those charcter's having private moments and flashbacks also

There was #1 and #2 as my favorites and #5 had that scene where as Rocky lies brain hurting from taking yet another beating he starts flashing to all his fights. Then he sees Micky and he tells Rocky "Get up you son of a bitch ,....because Micky loves you !"

Include me in the "Rocky Balboa would have sucked if he won" bandwagon. Honestly, the franchise probably went off the wheels when it became about Rocky winning, instead of Rocky getting some modicum of respect. Rocky loses the fight, but wins at life. It's a more powerful message.
Besides, Rocky proved that 30 years outside his prime, he could take the champion the distance. And if he could do that now, imagine what he could have done in, oh, let's say 78.

Agh! But that's the point he didn't 'accomplish nothing' He did everything he set out to do. He got rid of his urge to fight, and he gained a ton of respect.

But they really downplayed Dixon a lot, such that it didn't really seem like a big deal.
