View Full Version : 2009: The Year of Tom

After a bit of introspection I realized that 2008 was a year of slacking for me.
With comics projects in the works but at points where they were in the hands of other people, I just sorta stopped creating new things. I guess I felt that I'd start up again when the other things were done. But then they didn't get done and the apathy/procrastination of others took hold of me for a bit. Apathy my most cruel adversary.
I had a lot of different things this year hitting me all at once and sadly creating comics took a back seat. I'm good at multi-tasking but even this was too much for me. Some of this stuff took more of me than I had to give. It left me drained all the way through.
Time to shake it off. No more coasting. I have too many unrealized good ideas, too many goals unfulfilled. At the same time though, I need to unclench and relax, smell the flowers, whatever. As they say, it's not so much the destination as the journey that counts. I'll make my comics promised land someday. I'd hate to miss all scenery along the way.
So yeah, The Year of Tom. Mark your calendars.

I'll say yes to anything that involves me writing comics for money.

Get yourself a little writing related gift everyday to encourage you. I love pens, and that is how I boost myself up sometimes.

Tom you self-published an independent comic and didn't lose money. I've never heard of that before. During this time you held down a full time job and was a husband and father. I'm sure you have negative attributes but being a slacker is not one of them.

I did all that in 2007. I didn't publish one book in 2008. That's totally unacceptable.

You still held down a very good full time body, provided for your family emotional nd physical wellbeing, and worked out a deal where someone else is going to publish your trade everywhere at no cost to you. From where I'm standing you accomplished a whole hell of a lot and need to take pride in it rather than beat yourself up for the one thing you didn't do because you were busy doing everything else.

I don't think your beating yourself up at all....I think you're motivating yourself to do even better this year. Goodonaya!
I however, still can't get into the habit of saying yes more. I've realised that "no" is an automatic response when approached by someone.
I never noticed that as much until now, when three different people have approached me and I've realized afterwards that I was letting them speak but already had my "no" lined up as my answer. Not good. I shall have to change.

Just goes to show how awesome your sense of humor is.
It would have gotten old for me before I'd even heard it.
