View Full Version : X-Title Awards 2008 - Favourite X-Female
The Sword Is Drawn
01-06-2009, 03:51 AM
And following on from yesterday today's the turn of the X-Females. Again quite a lot of nominations in this category. Special mentions to Pixie and Psylocke, who only missed out on making the poll by the smallest of margins.
The Five contenders for this year's award are as follows:
Laura Kinney (X-23) : A big year for Laura. Having made the transferal from New X-Men to X-Force, working with her father/brother (Seriously how do you describe the relationship between partial clones) Wolverine. She's getting some good exposure there, right now.
Emma Frost (The White Queen) : Having a lot of bedroom scenes with Cyclops, being a key part of the X-Men's move to San Francisco, siting down at Norman Osborn's cabal table at the start of Dark Reign - it's been a busy year for Emma. Was she your favourite of 2008?
Ororo Monroe (Storm) : It's a hard life being Queen of Wakanda. All that time you have to spend away from the X-Men. But despite Black Panther primarily being her title now she still found time for a mini and a smattering of guest appearances across the year. She seems to have plenty support regardless.
Theresa Rourke Cassidy (Siryn) : It's been a trying year for Terri. What with being pregnant with Madrox Jnr, and his taking his time to decide how to react, and all. But despite her condition she's still managed to get quite a fair amount of coverage. It's not been a strong year for X-Factor, but she has probably fared better than most of the cast. Your pick?
Monet St. Croix (M) : What can we say about M? I don't think she's had a stand out year, but she has been very much active with X-Factor, and seems powerless to resist the charm of Longshot. I guess there are some characters who, even when the chips are down, some folks are glad just to have around.
So there you go, five X-characters, one choice. What will yours be? You have until the end of the month to vote. More polls on their way (We're getting there)
Over to you...

Monet St. Croix (M) : She's falling all over Longshot. As much as I love Monet, this clearly puts her at the back of the pack of the top 5.
Ororo Monroe (Storm) : She languished under the pen of Hudlin all year, only to show a little glimmer of hope during the Black Panther issues of Secret Invasion, thanks to Jason Aaron. Then, she's returned to the X-Men for quick little moments against Empath, and the start of the new Astonishing X-Men team. And lo and behold, some of Ororo's old independence and strength began to show... just in time for Chris Yost to get his hands on her, and get two issues of X-Men: Worlds Apart out where she's fightin' her man, to save her man, if that makes any sense. And showing some new tricks, we've never seen her pull off before, like blasting the Blackbird out of the sky from halfway around the globe. A strong finish to the year, but it doesn't make up for the first 8 months of being a trophy wife.
Theresa Rourke Cassidy (Siryn) : I'm happy for the upcoming mom, and loved her standoff with Val Cooper the past two issues. But she didn't get much to do other than be knocked up this year. I'm left wanting by one of my favorite X-females, she's done far better.
Emma Frost (The White Queen) : They practically wrote Emma into every X-book this year, at one point or another. She's defeated the Skrull Thought Wall. She's telepathically jackslapped Xavier. She's showed Martinique what the upper class do to dirty hippies. She's been f***ing Cyclops until he's chafed. All of this was to push her into an upper echelon of Marvel characters to make her seem worthy of sitting on the same group as Norman Osborn, Dr. Doom, Loki, and Namor. And, in spite of all that, was she my "best" X-female? Nuh uh. It just seemed WAY too forced.
Laura Kinney (X-23) : Because she's a compelling character, who's come so far. When the character debuted, I thought, "Wild Thing was lame in the MC2 universe, this will be pathetic in the Marvel U. Logan with boobs fails." Well, I was quick to judge, and way, way wrong. Seeing her conflict over her own nature, and whether she wants to be a real person, or just a killer in X-Force is moving. Seeing her absolutely tear people apart is great. For what panel time she gets, she's provided more bang for the buck than Emma Frost, for me, and I give her the nod over the WQ. Barely. But it's her.

Well, she doesn't do it for money.
Annddd, I'm sorry, the cheating on Jean thing isn't her fault. Emma wasn't the married one, anyone could've tempted him.
Besides that, I don't think it's bad to be a woman and not be afraid to admit to enjoying sex. I'd be more critical if I thought she was having sex for self-respect or some crap that my friends do all the time.
Amoral? Totally. Slutty? Depends on your thoughts on sex I suppose.

X-23 is my winner. She's come a along way this past year and I really enjoy her character.
Emma is and has been too forced for my liking.
I haven't been a fan of Monet since Gen X.
Ororo has literally falling off the map.

You're such a clone racist.
Sometimes clones are better than the original.
For example, Stryfe and Madelyne Pryor are superior to Cable and Jean Grey. Claudine is better than Nathaniel.
Usually, they're garbage.

I love Shan dearly, but her year has just kinda sucked. I mean don't get me wrong, it's been a HUGE step up, but it's still been a bit disappointing. The MD story was "okay" and her Uncanny cameos likewise... but I dunno, I'm still feeling let down in the end.
It's sort of like Dazzler's overhyped comeback that ultimately underdeliered. Only Shan wasn't prostituting her skrully ass for bike at the beginning of the year.
Kitty actually had a great year, albeit due to Wolverine FC. The Astonishing sendoff did suck though. She also had a nice Crosstime cameo in the ClanDestine mini (as did Rachel, Meggan, Brian, Kurt and even Lockheed and Alistaire... Ray especially rocked it).

I voted for my one true X-woman...Storm...(though I have to admit, WBE makes a very compelling argument against)...2nd runner up would be Laura.
This post completely sucks! How can you put X-23 and Emma on the same list? It's like forcing me to choose between cherry cheesecake and blueberry cheesecake! !
As Emma is relegated to playing the 'girlfriend' for the time being. I voted for Laura.
But really all these ladies are completely kick ass! It's why I collect X books.
