View Full Version : X-Title Awards 2008 - Favourite X-Male

And so we come to the category for favourite X-Male of 2008. One of the most nominated in categories. It was tight. A couple of favourites literally lost out of making the final poll by a single nomination. Gutted.

A tie in terms of nomination numbers has resulted in there being Six candidates for this award. They are:

Jamie Madrox (Multiple Man) : Which is somewhat of a surprise. X-Factor has had a bit of a jumbled year. But his role in Messiah Complex and his ongoing attempts to keep his team safe from the o.n.e. seem to be keeping people interested in the Daddy to be. Quite understandable, too.

Scott Summers (Cyclops) : It been a year of reestablishing himself as the true leader of the X-Men, for Cyclops. Moving the team to San Francisco, keeping X-Force hidden, making big decisions. Has this made you respect the guy? Was he your favourite of 2008?

Wolverine: Well, for all of those who've accused the guy of overexposure it certainly doesn't seemed to have damaged the number of people nominating him. He's had some hefty plot development this year. Daken, Original Sin, more Romulus in the background, Hunting Mystique, and don't forget Old Man Logan. Has he won you over?

Warren Worthington (Angel/Archangel) : It's been a bit of a weird year for Warren. On one title he's been the millionaire playboy with the big feathered wings, and on another he's been back with those metal ones Apocalypse gave him, largely having them torn off. Both POVs have made for interesting stories, but only more recently that it's been really explained as to how it's been possible to have both versions running in tandem. Still he's certainly been interesting to read. Was he your favourite?

Hank McCoy (Beast) : Well, this year Hank had a central role in Messiah Complex, an origins one shot, plenty page time in Astonishing X-Men, and even regained some of that ape-like dexterity in the pages of Uncanny. Was he you favourite of 2008?

Robert Drake (Iceman) : This year Iceman discovered just what you get for trusting Mystique. Nothing good. Despite not having had an active role since Messiah Complex Mike Carey and Michael Ryan's stories in Manifest Destiny have kept Bobby present in people's mind. From the number of nominations it's clear he still has a fanbase here. Was he your favourite of 2008?

So there you go, six X-characters, one choice. What will yours be? You have until the end of the month to vote.

Over to you...

Wow, all four of the living members of the 05, huh?

Robert Drake (Iceman) : I dig Bobby, but the manifest destiny tale and his brief team-up with Northstar and Aurora in Secret Invasion: X-Men aren't enough to give him the duke.

[COLOR="Black"]Jamie Madrox (Multiple Man) : He's about to be somebody's daddy, but Jamie has had better years. Other than smothering Darwin's dad with a pillow and nearly killing him, he just hasn't had too productive of a year, has he? I blame Detroit and Skrulls.

Warren Worthington (Angel/Archangel) : Warren's Death again, sometimes. It's like a new Jekyll and Hyde thing, apparently. And when he's Jekyll, he's apparently having no trouble getting laid, getting cozy with the mayor of San Francisco, as well as a potential hop in the sack for old time's sake with Husk in the middle of a Skrull Invasion. Has he gotten more interesting? Absolutely. Was the year clearly his? Nuh uh.

Hank McCoy (Beast) : Hank's useful again, to be sure. He's Cyclops' conscience. He's developing germ warfare weapons to commit genocide against the Skrulls. He's intolerant of hot pockets. And, he's putting together his own fringe science team to restart the X-gene. I think he certainly is an early favorite for '09. Especially for giving Bishop an overdue thrashing.

Scott Summers (Cyclops) : He's the field general. The leader. The commander. When the s*** hits the fan, Scott sends the X-Men into battle, and they fight for their very survival. He's keeping busy at nights with Emma, and behind her back by sending out X-Force as his kill squad. Was this his year? Eh, he really just held pattern for me from '07, when I did vote for him.

Wolverine: I think this is a Logan renaissance right now. Between being a featured hero in Secret Invasion, Wolverine was leading X-Force on some of the most dangerous missions in X-history, going out solo to assasinate old thorns in the side of the X-Men like Mystique, and still having time to be a father figure to younger X-gals like X-23, Pixie, Trance, and Armor. Not to mention, his attempts to team up with Xavier, and save Daken's very soul. Plus, there's the alternate future of Old Man Logan... this year is Logan's, for coming back from his cartoonish past to get involved in some of the best moments in comics, hands down.

I feel a bit filthy for having voted for Wolverine.

I don't even read the majority of his escapades.

Has Wolverine ever 'manscaped'? my new favourite word...

I would have preferred to be voting for Ink or Storm.

Jamine or Logan.... Hm.... I'll go with Logan. I've enjoyed reading about him in X-Force, ut Jamie was a close second.

What a pathetic group of choices. No Cannonballs? I will have to vote Iceman as a way of implying Cannonball.

Plus, I loved Roberta Drake.

WBE, Sage is still alive. Please correct your post.

Madrox wins this one by default.

I reluctantly agree with dn@n, though. The lack of Cannonball is suspicious.

That is a bold statement considering his competition for this vote.

Dn@N, you've turned this poll into a mockery. Don't vote for someone just because they allegedly have "Omega" powers.

TSiD, I'd like to swap my vote from Madrox to Wolverine. Is this possible, or will we need to lock this thread and start again?

I don't really understand why Jamie Madrox is winning... I know, this a poll for favourite X-Male, but from an un-biased point of view... he's had a relatively unremarkable 2008 in the title that's centred around him, X-Factor.

If anyone should win this poll, it should be Cyclops, for obvious reasons (lead the X-Men under a firm grip to safer SF, set up X-Force, became the leader of pretty much all the 'good' mutants in SF and rose in prominence as a character across the X-books as well, did this, did that, and so on...).

I know, I didn't vote for him. Because I've actually disliked his characterization so much this year, so I voted to the next best candidate, Archangel/Angel, who I believe also had a relatively good 2008.

Those are out of continuity, but I agree, that would be some interesting character development if brought over to 616.

Only if both events occur. Wolverine guts him and Armour rips his head off.

I reluctantly agree with dn@n, though. The lack of Cannonball is suspicious.

I'll have to go back and check the numbers, but I believe on 4/5 people nominated Cannonball in this category. Around the same number as characters like Pete Wisdom, and considerably less than characters like Nightcrawler and Colossus who only narrowly missed out making the poll.

There really is nothing suspicious, here. Not enough posters nominated Sam to put him ahead a heck of a lot of other X-characters.

It's sad, but regardless of whether you think a character is the best thing since sliced bread you can only give them one nomination. And unless other posters also favour them they won't get enough nominations to reach the poll.

This is the way we have always done awards on this board for as long as I've been a member. It's a very fair way of doing things.

It surprised me, too. 2008 was really not X-Factor's year, but I guess its fans still want it to be known that they love the character despite that.

I have to say I was also surprised that in a category like the Favourite X-Satelite Book, which i specifically kept open to include cancelled titles, we did not have more votes for Cable and Deadpool or New X-Men. Many people were so genuinely gutted when these books ended, but several of the same people did not nominate them. That actually was a surprise.

Agreed. I think posters, and I know I didn't nominate New X-Men because it came out only and ended in Jan 2008, which I personally regard as basically December 2007 all over again in the X-books (because it featured the endings to stories from 2007 like Messiah Complex and Emperor Vulcan). Maybe if New X-Men ended in March instead, then it would have been nominated, but it just didn't come out enough to really count.

Bingo!
01-05-2009, 11:10 AM
I want to vote Jamie, but in 2008 he hasn't been as prominent or nearly as influential as Scott Summers. That jerk owns the X-Men. He moved them to SF, set up X-Force, checked/schooled/replaced Xavier, and appears in almost as many titles as Wolverine. Quite an accomplishment for good ol' Slim.

And if anything goes wrong, it can be blamed on a clone, not Jamie. Jamie wins no matter what.

Don't forget about the mother, she'd still be good
Jamie got my vote, because Wolverine and Cyclops. I find they've been so used last year, appearing in so many titles and solos, one can get sick of them. Archangel's in second for me, only because of X-Force. I've always enjoyed X-Factor, minus the crap art from this year, and Jamie working behind their backs with Val and the government may be sneaky to some, but he's doing what he can to keep them out of the witness protection program.

I went with Wolvie. I was going to vote for Warren, but he was a jerk to Laura ( ) and almost made her commit suicide. Don't get me started on Cyclops, no matter how hard the writers try, he will never be as cool as Batman so give it up! He's nothing but Emma's latest 'get-me-through-the-night' boy toy. He should be cleaning her pool, and giving her personal training sessions. Besides the fact that he cheated on his wife and started up with another woman before his wife's body was even cold. Will ensure that he never gets' my respect.

Beast is too cudly. And I haven't have a fricken ' clue about the rest and neither do I care. So it's Wolvie for me, the brute with the good heart.
