Dirty Deeds!

"Dirty Deeds" is a series of threads where a discussion can be held about the morally questionable, or outright evil acts of characters in comics. It might be a discussion about times a hero crossed a moral line they shouldn't have, or a discussion of a villain's most horrific acts in their history, but the premise remains the same.

Where possible, a poll will be included to vote upon said character's "dirtiest deed".

Please do remember that there are no wrong answers, this is all a matter of opinion. Since everyone has a different set of morals, please try and respect differences in people's own beliefs.

It’s the thirty-first edition of Dirty Deeds, and I really was presented with a hard challenge this time out. I went and researched the entire history of a character that spans through four decades, and hundreds of appearances. And... I couldn't even come up with a list of twenty awful things they'd done. I mean, some of them are really a stretch to even be "dirty". What do you expect from a priest? Well, one that isn’t named Stryker, anyway. Yeah, we’re gonna look at our favorite blue furry teleporting elf swashbuckler pirate religious X-Man…

Kurt Wagner…
Nightcrawler!!!!

So what is Nightcrawler’s Dirtiest Deed?

- Killing his adopted brother, Stephan Szardos? (revealed in Marvel Comics Presents (vol. 1) #101-108)

- Beginning to date his adopted sister, Amanda Sefton? (Uncanny X-Men #98)

- Sending a viral agent into space towards the offspring of the Sidrian Hunters, causing them to be horribly mutated and rejected as outcasts of the rest of their race? (Uncanny X-Men #166, Excalibur (vol. 1) #116)

- Sitting back and letting the Juggernaut pummel Colossus in a bar fight, refusing to aid his supposed best friend? (Uncanny X-Men #183)

- Inappropriately touching Rogue, tickling her while she demanded he stop, until she finally had to elbow him in the gut to get the point across that “No means no”? (Uncanny X-Men #192)

- Stealing a red hooded robe off a clothesline? (Nightcrawler (vol. 1) #1)

- Accusing Amanda Sefton of using magic to put a spell on him and trick him into thinking he loved her? (Uncanny X-Men #204)

- Pretending he was Cannonball with help from the Danger Room’s holograms, suckering her Wolfsbane into slow dancing with him until eventually revealing his true form and sending her running from his demonic visage, terrified? (New Mutants (vol. 1) #22)

- Taking advantage of Meggan’s naivety and trying to seduce her while her current lover, Captain Britain, continued to fall into a spiral of alcoholic depression? (Excalibur (vol. 1) #4)

- At the whims of the beautiful blonde, Anjulie, helping her subjugate extra-dimensional pirates, including Kymri? (Excalibur (vol. 1) #16-17)

- Aiding Doctor Doom in trying to free his mother from Mephisto’s Realm? (Excalibur (vol. 1) #37)

- Taking advantage of a naïve Cerise by introducing her to traditional Earth rituals like “lip massages”? (Excalibur (vol. 1) #55)

- In the wake of Colossus’ death after he injected himself with the Legacy Virus, lashing out and taking out his anger on innocent humans? (X-Men Unlimited (vol. 1) #30)

- Brutally beating a group of human slave traffickers until his hands were completely covered in blood? (Nightcrawler (vol. 2) #2)

- Rejecting the romantic advances of Stacy X coldly, leaving her weeping naked on a bed? (Uncanny X-Men #417)

- Kissing Rachel Summers while she was just helping him practice combat maneuvers during a Danger Room scenario? (Uncanny X-Men #450)

- Helping Professor Xavier steal a Shi’ar spaceship? (Uncanny X-Men #476)

- Exploiting the knowledge and wisdom provided from a Skrull religious artifact to push forward a campaign of germ warfare against the Skrulls? (Secret Invasion: X-Men #3-4)

- Teleporting a can of beer so it would fly off and possibly hit Wolverine in the head? (Uncanny X-Men #501)

- Teleporting inside of Wolverine’s classic car, making the interior smell like sulphur for the foreseeable future? (Uncanny X-Men #503)

- Building a chapel in the X-Men’s Marin Base without any approval from any other X-Man? (Uncanny X-Men #504)

I know, I know. Compared to about every other Dirty Deeds, this stuff is pretty tame. But nonetheless, of what choices there are, vote for what you think is the foulest of Kurt Wagner’s Dirty Deeds!

Uncanny X-men #204 wins, I think. He was such a cad there. Close second is pummeling innocent humans because they were alive and Colossus wasn't.

Should his exaggerated violence against a people smuggler in his Icons mini series count?

Honorable mentions to this:

Complaining about Logan's "performance" to a bartender. Not classy at all.

What Kurt said to Amanda in UXM #204 was awful. However, nothing else he did with her was, as he and she weren't really siblings. Anyway those two "dirty deeds" can be separated in the poll?

I could've, but I tried to include as much as possible. I figured that moment counted towards the relationship, so I threw it in there.

None of these are that bad? I don't get it.

Normally when I make a Dirty Deeds thread, they ARE that bad. The first post has links to previous examples. I mean, Shaw and Toad, for example, it was a crapshoot. They've got all sorts of records for assault, political intrigue, etc. Also, look at Cameron Hodge, for one foulest of the mixed bags of villainy.

Now, Kurt, as you're noting, is a hero. When we've done hero ones, it's usually cut and dry. Normally, people vote for some romantic mishap they had, for example Colossus dating an underage Kitty Pryde. If not, it's usually pretty cut and dry for their worst act, like when everyone voted for Rogue absorbing Ms. Marvel, or Jean Grey for blowing up the D'Bari system as Phoenix.

More than any one person I've ever done one of these threads on, I agree, Kurt was the hardest to build a case against for being a ne'er-do-well. Hands down.

But he tried to hit Logan in the head with a beer can! ALCOHOL ABUSE!

I'll add some of that ICONS stuff. I didn't check that, but you're right. At one point he beats up a group of slave traffickers until he looks down and sees his own hands slick and covered in blood completely.

Kitty felt bad when she thought they killed the Sidri, and left their offspring in space to die, so her and Kurt thought they'd help by shooting some "medicine" to them, not realizing that it wasn't medicine at all, and it mutated them. It got retconned in, I think, by Ben Raab during his Excalibur run.

What about when he stole Gambit's sandwich?? Nazi bastard.

If it's true, I need issue reference. And if it's a sammich, and not just a sandwich, that's even worse.

Oh it was one hell of a sammich. He pulled Remy off the docks and into the water and stole it in an issue of the Nicieza Gambit series. No clue of the issue number....somewhere in the teens. I'll look for reference.

I voted for him taking advantage of or pawing the girls he has.

Just doesn't sit well with me.

But if Dirty were to refer to fun, then I guess Nightcrawler has hte right idea, further enforcing my pick.

At least he has good taste, I guess.
