View Full Version : Pop Ups ?
So I have been having problems with viruses getting in though attachments on CBR. I had my computer guy adjust my setting so I don't get them, which means I don't get to view some posts. I don't care, but now there are POP UPs fighting to get through, Can anyone tell me why. Is it the program? Why do we need ads, I know how to google. Sorry if I sound rude, I am abit upset. :frown:
I spend more money fixing my machine after I have been on CBR, than any other site.

I'm pretty sure CBR doesn't use pop-ups. Sounds like a third party virus.

Other than an occasional pop-up on the main home page, there are no pop-ups on CBR.
It is most likely on your end. Be sure to check for ad-ware or spyware that has been installed on your computer.
Thanks for answering, I spent quite a bit of time trying to find it and I did. Although I can't figure out were it comes from and how it gets in there
Thank you!

Asa, it's not just you. Over just the past few days, I've had two really nasty pop-ups for something called "Anti-Virus 2009" appear. This has happened on two different computers (one PC and one Mac, for which there is virtually no adware or spyware written), both computers are protected by Norton, and most importantly, the ads only pop up on CBR.
It's an ad that takes over the entire site. It doesn't "pop-up" in a new window as much as it takes over the current window and redirects it to its site, and the only way to get out of the window is to close the browser.
I can't be the only one having this issue.
The next time it happens, I'll post the website it redirects me to.
I can't be the only one having this issue.
Nope, you're not. I normally don't like to restrict ads/scripts/plug-ins on sites I visit because I want to support that ad revenue method for them, but this is ridiculous.

I had a similar issue the other day and was able to work around it by using the back button and trying again.
(It happened after I clicked a quote button.)

I have yet to run into this problem on any of the machines I use at home or at work (both Mac and PC).
It still strongly sounds like a spyware problem on the user end. Anti-Virus 2009 is spyware on the user computer that tries to re-direct you to other sites.
If this is happening to you, please report it and include the specs of your machine (OS and version, browser and version), where on the site you were and what you were doing.
If it is happening outside of the forums, it may also be better to report it directly to the main site team.
