Taking the reviews from the movie into consideration lets just say The Spirit never made it into film and is still in production. So the casting of the Director and the actors to play the characters in the movie is still undecided.

Since the Spirit movie will be greenlighted anyway I want to ask who do you think should have been the right person to direct The Spirit? Also who would you have cast to play the lead role and who would you cast to play the other characters in the comic?

I would still keep Samuel L Jackson as The Octopuss but I wuld keep the character close to the comic. Such as keep the concept that he was suppose to be the villan that you never see his face, keep a aura of mystery behind him.

I want to say it was Mark Evanier who said that every Spirit scene would have been better if Bruce Campbell had been playing the role. I haven't seen the film myself yet, but Bruce does seem like a good pick for the character.

I could picture Bruce playing a seasoned police officer assisting The Spirit in his cases but he seems too old to play as the lead character.

With what they done for The Incredibles I would welcome another Superhero film from them.

OK, fantasy casting:

Actually, I wouldn't change the cast, I loved the casting. Gabriel Macht (I once sold his father popcorn.) is extremely hot! The main problem I had, was that the "humour" wasn't as funny as Miller thought. I'd just have Guy Ritchie direct it!

You just have to get him into the shape he was in 25 years ago!

Apart from that, he's PERFECT!

Which Im sure, if Bruce dedicates himself to it, wouldn't be that hard.

You never know. Shelly Winters put on a great deal of weight for the Poseidon Adventure and with all her money, the doctors, pills and fat farms, etc. she was never able to lose the weight. What you can do at 35 is different than 50!

Frankly, not sure there's much of a point. Spirit is almost completely unknown outside the nerd community, there was never much narrative structure to the character...

Then it is unanimous. Pixar should have done The Spirit.

..........bird originaly planed it back in the 80's ( ! ) - " But if the world had turned a little differently, if fate had been a little kinder, a “Spirit” feature film would have debuted in the 1980s that would not only have been revolutionary but -- those of us involved in it were convinced -- a huge hit, possibly the first $100 million-grossing animated feature. "......ya sure

ME: Mark Evanier never said that. It may be so but I never said it.
