I think Marvel's stupid to provide some of those spoilers (IE- who Peter dates, and what happens to that relationship.) So I do recommend that anyone who watches the show regularly not read this stuff, unless you want Peter's entire romantic arc revealed.
But this still seems promising.
Interesting how much the writers are utilizing the idea of one season = one quarter with stories set in very specific time periods (something we rarely see in superhero stories.)

Woo! Sounds interesting. Seems funny that they are putting a lot of focus on Pete's relationship with Liz Allen and Gwen Stacy. Gwen I can understand, though. I am remiss to see that MJ isn't getting a lot of focus. Although she didn't play a bigger part in the franchise until much later in the comic series, so that's what they may be doing here.
Still, some highlights- the return of Venom, the new Enforcers (Shocker, the Ox and... Richochet?), a gang war, the return of the Sinister Six, Sally Avril (???- Cool!), the Vault, and a new Green Goblin.

I particularly can't wait to see the 'gang war' and 'the Vault' episodes.

I imagine that's what they're doing, as well, making MJ and Peter "just friends" before they officially become an item. And I was surprised that, based on those descriptions, Peter will choose Liz and she'll be his girlfriend rather than Gwen for most of the season. I guess, since Betty is not an option, that Weisman decided to make Liz the "first girlfriend" before Gwen. Even so, Peter must screw up really bad considering his and Gwen's kiss at the end of season 1.

What was really interesting is that Venom story appears to be linked to the classic Stan Lee John Romita story in which John Jameson becomes a "superhero":

While the descriptions sound cheesy, and I am not completely cool with the toon version of Tombstone(he's basically a placeholder for Kingpin), I'm looking forward to this...
This sounds awesome. Master Planner, Gang War, Molten Man...Again, these guys have a better grasp of what to throw into a Spidey series than anyone before hand.
I agree with Mets that they spoiled some aspects of Peter's developments in the season.

You have to remember that MJ is in her "best friend next door/no strings attached" role right now anyway, and that just makes her the girl that understands Peter, but is out of reach by her own choice. Peter loves her (made clear in the first season's closing arc), but if she doesnt want to be with anyone, he has to respect that and move on to other girls, which he has.
The long-term goal however is for Peter and MJ to be together

I guess the "Identity Crisis" episode will be the classic "episode about a dream", because none of the following episodes appears to have signals about "Peter's secret identity is still known".

We'll see. I'm not trying to be a troll or anything, but Marvel may be trying to "downplay" their relationship and giving instructions to the creators of the cartoon to do the same. Or, the creators of the cartoon could decide to go another way with the two of them entirely. We can't say for sure.

That's ridiculous.
With the exception of ASM, Marvel have done their darndest to keep Peter and MJ's relationship quite healthy everywhere else, be it initmate, married, or in-character as friends. I have my own suspicions about what Ultimatium's going to bring for USM, but aside from that, I'm not going to pull my hair out looking for the moment Marvel try and "silence" the relationship. It's a major cash cow of their franchise and an aspect of their mythos. Quesada's guranteed fans Peter and MJ will find their way back to each other in the irrelevant 616 universe
Greg's long-term goal is to marry off the characters in the DVD movies, and pair them up by the conclusion of the series. This series is based on how the characters began as teenagers. Back in the early days of ASM, MJ was the "no strings attached" third wheel of the Peter/Gwen coupling, being a close friend and a tease to both.
Where the hell does it say on the C.V that Peter and MJ have to be smooching each other five minutes into a season? Get a grip man.

Greg Weisman is pro-Spider-Man marriage. I know this for a fact. The man is a personal friend of mine, and he and I discuss the comics quite often.
Now, to correct a few things. Marvel is not making this show, Sony is. Marvel can't dictate how to handle MJ in this or not. For the most part, it has been Greg Weisman's call. He has enjoyed a tremendous amount of creative freedom on this series. He loves making it.
Also, Marvel and Sony did not leak this, Teletoon (the Canadian network) did.
and a new Green Goblin.
Who says it's a new Green Goblin? I don't believe Harry was the Goblin at all.

Yeah, I know. But with all that has been going on with Spider-Man this year, I find its better to downplay my expectations and be proven wrong then look forward to something that may never come.
And just because I'm paranoid DOESN'T MEAN THERE'S NO ONE OUT TO GET ME!!! (looks around nervously)

Well, thats something I didn't know before. And Greg Weisman has been dong a great job. The reason I felt the way I did is that I have heard of people working on DC projects like the Death of Superman or the Justice League cartoon being instructed by DC not to use certain elements. For example, in Superman/ Doomsday, the animators were instructed that Superman couldn't be cut like he was in the comics, saying his skin doesn't break. In the Justice League cartoon, there was a "bat embargo" so to speak to prevent them from using any bat characters. This was where my concerns came from, since I did not know exactly how much say Marvel had in the development of the cartoon. Like I said above, I was downplaying my expectations for the cartoon as to not be too disappointed. Now that I know otherwise, my concerns are alleviated.
The Bat-Embargo came about because D.C are part of a larger corporation with loftier buisness goals. Marvel is not, and never will be, Warner Bros, and don't have half the power to make changes like that.
The only examples of a " Spider-Man embargo" were when Cameron held the rights to use Sandman and Electro for his movie, (Electro was eventually used in the final season of the FOX series) and when Hobgoblin was pushed ahead of Green Goblin because his toy came out first (back when Avi Avrad and Toybiz were helping Marvel cope with it's financial ills). Both embargos were due to people with more power than Marvel at the time.

The only embargo on this show is Kingpin, and that is a licensing dispute. Kingpin falls under the Daredevil license which is owned by Fox. Not Sony.
Not that I'm complaining. It got us an awesome Tombstone.

It hasn't been green lit yet. I wouldn't expect it to get a green light until at least March. Disney XD will want to see how it performs in the ratings first before ordering another season. That's what Sony is waiting for, because they don't want to risk anyone not wanting another season...
... which is ridiculous.

I agree with the Tombstone assessment. I've never seen Tombstone be handled in such an excellent matter (I do detect shades of David Xanatos- a truly, TRULY underrated villain.) I would say that Kingpin probably would have worked a little bit better, but what they are doing with Tombstone is nonetheless awesome and is something I wouldn't mind seeing translated back into the comics.
And its good to know that Marvel is being relatively hands off with the series, and not trying to push any agendas. I know it sounds paranoid, but I felt it would be better to err on the side of caution with Spider-Man nowadays. Still, Spectacular Spider-Man is one of the best shows on television today and I think it would be silly of the parent company to wait on green lighting a third season for too long. Personally, I would like to see them extend the episode order to a full 26 episodes per season rather than 13. Since it takes so long to make the episodes, the networks could cycle through the season two or three times before the new episodes are ready. Plus, the seasons debut at weird times of the year, like in March or January. Having a full schedule of episodes would mean it could run like a regular TV series over the course of September to May.

... which is ridiculous.Even if the Green Light wasn't lit for a third season this doesn't prevent the release of DTV's based on Kraven's Last Hunt or the "Death of Jean DeWolff", right? What's the percentage of hope for that to happen?

Weisman did to Tombstone what Dini has done to Mr Freeze.I enjoyed Tombstone in comics but it was the first time that i really saw him as a capable big player.I hope Marvel would revamp the character in comics too.But it's shame that we can't see Kingpin in this show.Weisman handle crime boss as they should be.I was never a great fun of the Luthor/Shredder rip-off Kingpin in Spiderman TAS(it was good for it's time but he didn't age well).Anyway,i really looking forward for the Gang War between Hammerhead,Silver Sable and Doc Ock(i hope it would be like Ock-Owl gang war).

It's too bad that they can't use the Kingpin in one sense, but Rosce Lee Brown's version of him in the 90s was pretty definitive for me, so going another route is fine.

Xanatos is underrated?
