If I can only afford one of these runs of comics: Superman Confidential 1-14, Superman Birthright 1-12, or Adventures of Superman 627-650; which one run of comics should I purchase (IYO)?

Thanks.

Get Adventures Of Superman.

if it's Adventures of Superman by Greg Rucka get it.

Loved the stuff he done with the villain RUIN.

The art was really nice in some issues too.

As a side note...are there any issues of Adventures of Superman (in that run) that cross-over with another title? If so, which other titles/issues do I need to pick up to get the full story?

In looking at a website, the only issues I could find that crossed over were: "Lightning Strikes" (SA 639, Superman 216, Action 826); and "Sacrifice" (Superman 219, Action 829, SA 642, Wonder Woman 219).

Were there others?

Thanks.

If you can get Superman Confidential issues 1-5 and issue 11 (where the story concludes) you should do so. Its a Darwyn Cooke story called Kryptonite and it's very good. The rest of Superman Confidential was mostly forgettable. Birthright was good but not as good as Kryptonite and as I said in one of your other threads Ruckas Superman run was the pits.

Adventures of Superman. It's not great, but Rucka had an OK run. It was pretty standard. It's still readable though.

Superman Confidential, aside from the Cooke/Sale collaboration, was finding new ways to define the words dull and listless. Completely boring stuff that wasn't even worthy of being fill-ins. Not recommended.

Birthright was a huge disappointment as well. It was just a ham-fisted way of trying to insert bad ideas from Smallville into the comic books. Smallville stinks, and this comic is infected with a nasty virus. Avoid.

Lightning strikes is by judd winick with art by ian churchill, it's pretty good, shazam is in it too.

Sacrifice to me is just an extented version of The OMAC PROJECT, and the Omac project is much much better and better art, story, characters.

Though, Something very bad happens to batman in sacrifice which will make you understand why batman had no trust for anybody around the time of infinite crisis.

superman mauls him:) badly.

Birthright isn't perfect but it would be my pick of the lot. There's just something about Waid's writing that resonates with me.

I voted Birthright. I thought Waid did a good job.

Go with Adventures.

Birthright was a disaster, Rucka was far from his best on Adventures of Superman. I'd go with the Superman Confidential for the Darwyn Cooke/Tim Sale storyline. Better writing, better art.

From CONFIDENTIAL, get 1-5 and 11, that'd be the Cooke / Sale story KRYPTONITE.

I liked Rucka's run on ADVENTURES. It wasn't perfect, but good enough.

Crossover issues from that run include:
639. Lightning Strikes Twice (ACTION COMICS 826 and SUPERMAN (Vol. 2) 216)
642. Sacrifice (ACTION COMICS 829, SUPERMAN (Vol. 2) 219 and WONDER WOMAN 219)
649. Superman, This Is Your Life (ACTION COMICS 836 and SUPERMAN (Vol. 2) 226)

A few issues near the end tied into INFINITE CRISIS generally.

Where does a new story arc begin in 'Adventures of Superman': 617, 618, 619, 620, or 621?

Just looking to see where I should pick up around the 620 mark.

Thanks for all the help so far.

They're all stand-alone issues around there.
