Am I correct in that 2009 will be DC Comics 75th Anniversary(starting with National Allied Publications)? If so, has there been any word on them doing anything for it? Marvel's already mentioning their 70th Anniversary plans for next year, but, traditionally, 75th is a bigger deal than 70th. Although, if Marvel payed any attention to their past celebrations, next year would be their 47th Anniversary.

Here's hoping DC does something! Who knows if comics will even be around in their current form for DC's 100th Anniversary?

I was under the impression that DC's 75th anniversary would be in 2010. I thought they were founded in 1935.

New Fun Comics #1 was cover dated Feb. 1935. It would be hard to pin down its on sale date, though at least one source has it at Jan. 11, 1935.

I just saw that National Periodicals was founded in 1934. I didn't even think to check out when their first comic was published. Considering this year was Superman's 70th Anniversary and DC did nothing for it(is the 70th Anniversary usually celebrated or is that just Marvel?), maybe anniversaries aren't their thing.

DC didn't even celebrate the fact that 2008 was Superman's 70th anniversary. I doubt Batman gets the same in 2009.

Their argument was that it "ages" the characters. But come on....it's Batman and Superman. They're American institutions at this point - so why not celebrate their age, because it celebrates their cultural significance.

I can see a company wide 75th anniversary celebration in a few years, but with these recent happenings I don't think it's a sure thing, even 5 years out, to assume that.
