Its that time of year again!
I think i have my brother and his wife covered .
Its their kids i am struggling with .
their parents keep promising to provide a list.
but I cant wait any longer .
last year , i got my oldest nephew(12) Peter and the Secret of Rundoon .
no new Peter Pan adventures this year but he likes that type of fantasy .
his younger brother(9) likes the magic treehouse books which feature Merlin but he has them all.
Their older sister(15) likes Vampires she just finished theTwilioght series .
She has seen the film twice.
But she also likes movies like Australia.
so, i am not sure how dark to go with the vampire stuff .
also if anybody knows of any good country music biographies that are pretty new,
my Mom loves them.
Much thanks in advance.
last year, because of your help i got a nice vampire anthology collection for my niece.
so, I thought I would try again.
Thanks again.

Could always go retro and get the girl Lost Boys. First movie to make Vampires seem cool and fasionable.

Has the oldest nephew been introduced to Narnia yet? The Prince Caspian movie was released this month.

As for your younger nephew, there was a book I loved called Bunnicula, the Vampire Bunny! (http://www.amazon.com/Bunnicula-Rabbit-Tale-Mystery-Deborah-Howe/dp/1416928170/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1229483165&sr=8-1). I just looked it up on Amazon to see if it is still in print and apparently it is an entire series. Recommended ages 9-12.

For the girl who liked Twilight, try Melissa Marr's books. The first is Wicked Lovely. If she's 15, you could even try Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. (But only if her parents let her read adult stuff.)

My boys (9 and 13) swear by the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. Also, there's a series that starts with a book called "Gregor the Overlander" that my oldest boy likes. Suzanne Collins, I think. Also, Artemus Fowl series. Artemus is probably closer to a younger age level.

My son (9) likes the Percy Jackson series, too. The first one is "The Lightning Thief". They are a lot more challenging than 'The Magic Tree House' series. How about the Jeff Smith 'Shazam' tpb, and for the girl, a Sandman tpb. The older boy? I got nothin'...I'm shopping for one myself & it's a pain.

James Owen's books for the older kids. Not that I'm biased or anything. But they are fun.

Also the Bartemeus trilogy - those are fun, by all reports (I've only just started reading the first volume, but it's fun).

for both, The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander.

5 books, beginning with THE BOOK OF THREE. No possibility of a miss.

Or, if a series is too daunting, try THE WIZARD IN THE TREE or THE FOUNDLING & OTHER STORIES by the same author.

and for the older,

A Wizard of Earthsea and The Tombs of Atuan by U. K. LeGuin.

HOLES by Louis Sachar for the older kids

ROLL OF THUNDER, HEAR MY CRY by Mildred Tailor for the older kids

A HIGH WIND IN JAMAICA by Richard Hughes for the older girl
BLOODY JACK by L.A. Meyer also
