This rant will be short as this is the Fourth time I'm typing it up (Third Time in 10 minutes).

This rant is about Green Arrow and how DC has systematically destroyed a character that was both a fan favorite and had a fairly well selling title.
This is about the character that once was a Noble Gentleman , a ladies man and a loudmouth, a man who fought for the little guy, a man who would sacrifice himself for a good cause, the man who ran for mayor to clean up the city of corrupt Fatcats.

This is not about the Sexist (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=249580),Womanizing, Cheating, Windbag, who would sacrifice himself for a Klondike bar and ran for Mayor to brake every promis he made during the election and exploit Homosexuals.
Not about the man who apparently bankrupted several major companies to gain money for his campaign making countless people jobless, with the excuse "they where weapons manufacturers" .

This is about the character that only 2 of DCs current writers (Gail Simone and Grant Morrison) have managed to find under the lair of filth the other writers have put on top of him.
Not about the Character that was raped by Judd Winick for almost 6 years only to be handed over to other writers who suddenly decided that his close friends never actually where his friends (Geoff Johns)

This is about the Real Green Arrow..

The man who died in October 1993..
Who returned to us in March 2001..
and died again in in May 2003..

May he rest in peace

Does anyone have a pic of that issue were Superman pulled out a big gun and said he was nobody's boyscout?

Because that's what I think of whenever character assassination is bandied about.

Ollie.....Noble? What?

And isn't a ''Ladies man'' kinda the same thing as a''womanizer''?

K-DoG7p7, I agree with you.

It's funny, both superhero archers from Marvel and DC have been subsequently screwed up for years (though for Hawkeye, it started earlier. Thanks Austen and Bendis)...

Fun fact:
Elliot S.Maggin! wrote Ollie as himself
Mike Grell wrote Ollie as himself

Did Judd?

I don't read the Green Arrow book, he seems okay in all of the Crossover appearences I read. He was pretty cool in Final Crisis I thought.

The person you need to blame is Chuck Dixon even though I LOVED his run on Green Arrow. In order to explain how Connor Hawke came to be Chuck retconed Ollie into a notorious womanizer who couldn't keep it in his pants whereas he never cheated on Dinah prior to that unless you include being raped while unconscious, wounded and drugged by Shado.

And for the record a lot of people think Ollie cheated on Dinah when he had a one night stand with the college age woman that worked for Dinah but Dinah had left him so he was free and clear even though they only had been broken up for a few days. So blame Chuck not Judd as Judd was only following what came before.

Final Crisis was the first time in a long time (Outside of Year One which I enjoyed) where I finally said.....see, That right there....that is Ollie. That's the character I collected religiously until Judd came on.

I loved his run after Ollie was gone. I will always stand by my contention that the worst thing to happen to the character was Chuck Dixon. and yes.....worse than Judd. because that's what Judd looked at the character as. When Judd was first announced I was actually excited about it because I thought his willingness to be political with comics would be perfect for the bok. but then there was an interview he did with the big GA fansite where he talked about how he was continuing Chuck Dixons version of the character and didn't like Grells take. that's when I died a bit inside

Hawkeye seems to be doing fine. His dead wife came back.

Totally. I loved his line about how militaristic the united front against Darkseid was. He's a cantankerous coot, who's quite funny for all that.

Not some manly man who's so manly he can't keep it in his pants.

Chuck run on Green Arrow was awesome so long as you only count Connor Hawke. He killed Oliver Queen both metaphorically and literary.

Eh, he was screwed from the moment Grell was put on the book.

You can turn on Justice League Unlimited and see what we might have gotten if the character had been allowed to evolve and progress from how O'Neil wrote him.

But instead Grell started him down a dark path, turning his nose up at what came before, then left the book with the character a mess. Grell's mistakes were built on by others, leaving us with the cheating, lying, hypocritical horndog we've got today.
