Just asking, who is everyone's favorite Anime/Manga villains?
No need to put them in any particular order or list reasons why if you don't feel like it.
Remember, this is an OPINION based thread, so no flames if someone just happens to like different characters then you do, and please try to avoid bashing.
That said, have fun folks.

Current favourite would have to be Medusa from Soul Eater:

She's basically like a hotter, cooler, more stylish Orochimaru. She fights on the frontlines rather the rely heavily on henchmen, because she "doesn't believe what she hasn't experienced." She's an incredibly evil person with very few redeeming features, but she's so good at it I can't help but like her. Her snake magic is ridiculously versatile, she'll kick your ass all over the place, and she doesn't die even when she is killed.

Here's my list in no particular order.
-Rob Lucci
-Sir Crocodile
-Arlong
-Cell
-Dio Brando
-The Millenium Earl (D. Grayman)
That's all I can think of for now.

In no particular order:
- Aizen Sousuke: He's a magnificent bastard of the highest order and is tremendously cool about it to boot.
- Hao Asakura: Totally unassailable. He redefines the final boss trope by being totally beyond anything and everything else in his world. You fight him, you die. Simple as.
- Griffith: Layers. Soo many layers. A total bastard, massively hated with good reason but then he seems to be being good and I don't know what to think anymore.
- Reverse Sayoran: Something fun about an evil twin who is ludicriously powerful and has the mindset of terminator as well.
- The Millenium Earl: A fun, deceptive character who seems to be all mouth and no trousers. Then he blasts an entire city off the map with a single wave of his hand. Very entertaining and surprisingly deep.
- Lord Tykki Mick: Again, playful but evil. Wicked and yet loveable. You hate that he is evil but you hate more that he is such a stylish bastard about it. Like an anti hero without the hero.
- Road: Cute and unstoppable. Not the most powerful being in her verse but totally immortal and takes great pleasure in mentally tearing her opponents apart but also is strangely sympathetic to the heroes. Great fun to read.
- Eneru: Nothing a like a good Messiah-complex when it's done well!
- Yagami Raito: Magnificent Bastard. Xanatos Roulettor. All round evil cad but just cool enough to make you almost what a douche he is.
I'm sure there are more but those are the ones that spring to mind.

Ah yes, I forgot about Light, mostly because he's his series protagonist.
One of the greatest magnificent bastards out there, with emphasis on the bastard part.
I didn't really like how he acted in defeat though.

Though I disliked a lot of Season 2, I did like that part.
It showed Raito for what he was; a cowardly, maniacal, psychopathic murderer who had been abandoned by everyone and finally got die the death of massive irony at the hands of Ryuk, knowing full well he was going to oblivion.

I definitely like her more than Arachne.

And really, he should have seen it coming. Ryuk flat out told him he would write his name down in his other note once he got bored with it all.
Since we're mentioning non-antagonists villains, I'll go with Balalaika from Black Lagoon. She would make a great villain, either in a police show or a war movie.

It's the whole cowardly part I have some problems with. Though it fits perfectly since he hides behind whatever he could use and only showed his face as people were dying.

I saw Light's breakdown as a natural reaction for someone not used to failure. He had always managed to take control of the situation, everything always went (excuse me, meme time) Just as Planned, and whatever setbacks he experienced were short term and manageable.
When he finally sees this time he is totally screwed and everything spins out of control from his hands, he just freaks out. A lot. I actually like the manga ending best, because it shows him even more desperate.
As for best villains, IMO...
Dio Brando - Jojo's bizarre adventure
Legato Bluesummers - Trigun
Mitsuomi Takayanagi - Tenjou Tenge
Makoto Shishio - Rurouni Kenshin
Hiroshi Uchiyamada - Great Teacher Onizuka (not really a bad guy, but this guy was probably one of the funniest antagonists ever)
OP: Buggy the Clown, Arlong and Lucci.

Yeah, chalk me up for Aizen as well. He's been handled exceedingly well since day one.
- Hao Asakura: Totally unassailable. He redefines the final boss trope by being totally beyond anything and everything else in his world. You fight him, you die. Simple as.
You know, that's really the one thing I don't like about Hao. He's so invincible and perfect, the only real reason the heroes actually stand a chance is because he's allowing it. Towards the end of the manga, it becomes blatantly obvious he's more or less throwing them huge advantages, like letting Opacho follow them around, or handing them the Spirit of Fire. oO

Yes, Hiroyuki Takei basically wrote himself into a corner by saying that Hao was infinitely superior in power to all the other shamans together. Hopefully the new, true ending that will be released next year won't be too Deus Ex Machina (nor a "carebear" ending like the anime).

-Yagami Raito. The guy who redefined Magnificent Bastardhood. Amazingly clever, one of the greatest villain protagonists of all times.
-Gin, of "Detective Conan". Keeps getting more terrifying with every appearance. Seems like just another gangster at first...but he might as well be the angel of death.
-Dr Tomoe. Because very few people can look sinister while making tea, or playing twister. Tomoe had villainous class.

Kagato (Tenchi OVA): Kagato is one of those rare villains who had *everything.* He had the maniacal plan, the unforgiving selfish attitude, but also the villainous charisma and the ability to totally mock you verbally. He had power, but he also had brains and scientific prowess at his disposal. He overpowered characters, but when they turned the tide against him, he turned to advance technology to even the odds again. He's thousands of years old, learned from Washu, took a giant dimensional planet-busting space ship as his own, had dozens of supernatural powers, and in the end even managed to nearly capture Tsunami, letting him come close to claiming the powers of the gods. If it hadn't been for Tenchi's unpredictable light hawk wings, he'd have won everything.
Nagako (Fushigi Yugi): After years of age have made Fushigi Yugi as a whole a little less enchanting, Nagako alone remains a stone-cold badass.
Haruko (FLCL): Despite her charm, zany entertainment, and subtle evidence of her warming up to Naota, she is, indeed, the villain of the story at the same time that she's the secondary protagonist; but that's why she's on this list.
Aizen: What else can be said about this magnificent bastard. Cruel, cunning, always plotting ahead. He's Xanatos reborn in anime...with a really powerful sword. And we haven't even seen him serious yet.
Naraku: Always a step ahead of his enemies, always manipulating and tormenting people until practically everyone in the manga wanted him dead for something he did. He'd get caught every once and a while, but not only did he escape, he actually analyzed his own weaknesses and then improved himself; he's one of the only villains in manga to start out relatively weak compared to the main character but then grow exponentially...to the point that at the end of the manga he was no-selling dimension dumps just from securing his existence in this dimension on psychic will alone.
Pein (Naruto) I like the idea of existing as six seperate bodies each with their own specialty. Makes for a unique fighter; and in the Naruto verse, where simply being able to distract and outflank your opponent is a major key to victory, having six bodies that can see eachothers blind spots and surround an opponent makes him nigh-invincible if all six are together in one place.
Ashram the Black Knight (Record of Lodoss War): Pretty much an awesome villain. Level-headed, calculating, merciless in battle, but not without honor or civility when he's dealing with non-combatants. Wields an awesome sword; he's good enough to take down dragons, and he grows as a leader until he decides of his own accord to end the war and leave Lodoss behind.
I'll see if I can think of any more.

Some of my favorites have already been mentioned but I'll turn to one that might be a bit of a stretch. In the manga, he is not a "villain" per se but he is definitely presented as a villain in the anime.
I speak of "Dung Beetle" from Bokurano. A cute but sadistic little robot that enjoys making sure the kids are suffering. He seems to get bored when one of the kids doesn't break down in tears or scream in horror over what is happening.

Gotta agree with you there.
Other than that, I'm usually not much into anime villains, actually. Which is funny, since in American comics I tend to prefer the villains over the heroes. In manga/anime I'm the opposite.
Still, I like Naraku to an extent. Vicious from Cowboy Bebop is great, even if somewhat underdeveloped. Mimete from the Sailor Moon S anime, I always found her to be a laughing riot. Great comedic villain. Ditto for Nanami in Utena, to some degree. I like Faust in Saber Marionette J, and I think The Claw from Gun X Sword is sadly underrated everywhere.

Having now read all the Soul Eater chapters so far I have to second Medusa. She's just cool, in the freaky evil kind of way. Scary, wicked, sneaky, dangerous, evil and cool are the things that make up Medusa. That and she can kick your ass if need be, and if she can't due to circumstances she'll manipulate you to do what she wants.
