One of the gravest of insults in the Arab world is to present someone with the soles of your shoes. Well, the U.S. Secret Service managed to allow this one happen:

I'm gutted that guy missed although you've gotta say, good evasive skills by Bush.

On a more serious note, Bush was lucky it was only a pair of shoes and not a couple of hand grenades.

I think that shoes and feet have a particular cultural significance to the Iraqis. Remember at the end of the initial invasion of Iraq in 2003, when all those Iraqis toppled that statue of Saddam Hussein? Many of those people made a point of it to clamber up on the toppled statue so that they could trample this image of Saddam, especially his head.

a) "Let's hope the Secret Service doesn't extend this habit of not acting quickly to Prthe next guy's administration."

b) "Guy coulda gotten shot, yet he smiled the whole time and then JOKED ABOUT IT. Haha! The libs hate him even more now!"

The Arab world is applauding him like he did something profound, while the rest of the world is simply laughing.
You threw both of your shoes at Bush, missing him twice. You sure showed him!

If that were Barack, he probably would have caught the shoe and threw it back at him and hit him square in the forehead, Jack Burton-style, knocking him out.

Nah, Barack would probably catch the shoes and then offer them back to the guy, along with an uplifting message of hope and change. After the guy spits in his face, then Barack would donate the shoes to some humanitarian organization that is giving clothes to poor Iraqis.

"So everyone is clear on their assignments, right? In the event of an aggressive action against POTUS, Agent Johnson, your job is to bring him safely to the ground. Agent Waters, your job is to look for the shooter. Agents DeMarco and Blevins, you're on crowd control. And Agent Wallace, it's your job to dive in front of the bullet."

"What about shoes, sir?"

"I'm sorry?"

"What if somebody throws their shoes at the president? Do we have a plan for that?"

"No, we don't have a plan for that, because it's fucking stupid and it'll never happen."
