What up and coming writers and artists would you like to see working at DC?

I don't read a lot of indie books but for those that do, who would you like to see DC give an opportunity to?

Up and coming...

Well, I'd love to see Jon Hickman do some work for DC. He's blown me away with his "Nightly News" and "Pax Romana" (Transhuman was merely good, I thought).

Jeff Parker would be a perfect fit for a lot of books at DC

Paul Cornell could do AMAZING things at DC I think, as his Captain Britain title over at Marvel is great.

Ivan Brandon is going to do some work at DC, and I'm quite excited about that. I think his work is under appreciated and really, really good.

Jason Aaron I would have said, but he's already Marvel exclusive (save for Scalped).

And I'd like to see Simon Spurrier take over GL Corps.

I am also a huge fan of Hickman and would love to see him do some DC books. Sadly though I don't see it happening anytime soon as he has signed on with Marvel to do one of their new books (Secret Warriors) in the aftermath of SI.

Two books, actually, as he's doing a mini series spinning out of Dark Reign.

"Dark Reign: Fantastic Four", with art by Sean Chen. Supposedly Doombots, Celestials and the Eternals are all somehow involved.

So yeah, it seems like Marvel has a hold on him, which is absolutely awful as I think he's great (though I'll be interested to see how his very info-dump technique translates to superhero work).

I'll go with the flow and say Jonathan Hickman with a nod towards an Adam Strange book. Or JLA, if DC were to take a chance and cut Benes for a better storyteller.

Kieran Gillam (Phonogram), in my opinion, is a no-brainer for a Tim Hunter/Books of Magic book.

I would love to see Matt Fraction on Legion of Superheroes, particularly if Barry Kitson or George Perez were along for the ride.

Jeff Parker would be a great fit at DC.

I read a book a few years back now called The Lost Squad written by Chris Kirby. I really liked it and haven't heard from him again. He might be good for DC.

Also. Leah Moore. I enjoyed Albion and her Battle For Atlantis story in Savage Tales was also good. I'd give her a shot too.

It is too bad Jason Aaron is Marvel exclusive. His Joker's Asylum: Penguin made that character cool for the first time in, oh, ten years?

Aaron is a wonderful writer, and it's a real testament to the lack of vision of DC, I think, that they had him at the company doing stuff for Vertigo (The Other Side, Scalped) and Marvel absolutely sniped him out from under them.

That said, I think his extremely hard-edged, gruff, almost Ennis-like style might be a better fit at Marvel. There are only a handful of books that I can see him being a great fit for at DC - Suicide Squad, for instance - whereas he's a perfect fit for a number of big characters at DC (Wolverine, Ghost Rider, Punisher).

Keeping the ones they have might be a good start. Here's an idea, divert one of the wheelbarrows of cash you are sending to Jim Lee, the Kuberts, or Grant Morrison to spread amongst the young talent before Marvel gets them.

I would like to see Ed Brubaker coming to DC Comics.

I wish DC would reprint the rest of Brubaker and Pleece's Deadenders series from Vertigo. It would fit nicely into two more inexpensive trades coupled with a reprinting of Waiting for the Sun, or (even better) a hardcover of the entire series similar to recent Heavy Liquid HC. My original issues are getting pretty ragged.

I'd love to see Tony Moore (BATTLE POPE, FEAR AGENT, original WALKING DEAD artist) tackle some DCU. He's been around for a few years, but seeing his name on the newest GHOST RIDER solicit reminded me that we've seen virtually nothing from him in the Big 2.

Also, Tim Seeley (HACK/SLASH, GI JOE, new NEW EXILES artist).

He isn't a youngster, but I would like Eduardo Barreto on Batman immensely. No Azzarello though.

Scott Closter and Justin Robinson did some awesome stuff for Th3rd World Studios' sci-fi anthology Space Doubles, so I'd like to see them work on Adam Strange as a sort of gritty space-cop deal.

I echo everyone's desire for Jonathan Hickman to work for DC. I'd love to see him write and color Green Lantern Corps with Ryan Bodenheim doing pencils.

It'd be great, as mentioned above, to see Tony Moore tackle a series like Jonah Hex.

Agree with everyone who said Jason Aaron.

He's still writing SCALPED. That's creator owned, and his Marvel contract allows for him to keep doing it at Vertigo.

But yeah, I've heard lots of good things about Jason Aaron and kinda would like him to write some DCU whenever his Marvel deal is up...

I think it would be interesting to see Gerard Way at DC. I have little time for his music, but The Umbrella Academy is very good. Ergo, he should make less music and write more comics.

He did an internship there if I'm not mistaken, so it's not outside the realm of possibility (on the other hand, I remember reading something about him getting disillusioned with the comics industry while working for DC, which doesn't score them any points).

Good suggestions all around, especially Jonathan Hickman who really rocked my socks with Pax Romana.

A couple of other suggestions: Glen Brunswick and Dan McDaid who are currently putting out the cool fun book Jersey Gods (http://jerseygods.blogspot.com/), Brendan McGinley and Mauro Vargas of Hannibal Goes to Rome (http://www.shadowlinecomics.com/webcomics/#/hannibalgoestorome/) fame, and Rocketo creator Frank Espinosa.

If nothing else, Brunswick and McDaid's Jersey Gods tells me they should be writing DC's New Gods.

seems like DC is getting their hooks into Chris Yost (X-23, New X-Men, X-Force, etc.)

Jonathan Hickman should right a DC book. I think he'd be good on Green Lantern after Geoff Johns leaves.
Paul Cornell should write a DC team book (or three) like Teen Titans or even JLofA

Ditto Andy Diggle. He did a couple projects at DC (I quite liked both Adam Strange and Green Arrow), but not much, and Marvel seems to be bringing him in as a key guy - Thunderbolts, and possibly Daredevil.

DC really doesn't seem to have much imagination when it comes to recruiting new writers. Either that, or they don't pay nearly enough.

This one I don't lay at DC's feet.

Diggle was, frankly, not interested in working on DC characters much, as he made clear over and over again in the various interviews that he did. I recall him saying that Green Arrow was one of the very few that he was really interested in writing, and that there were many more for him at Marvel.

His work is hit or miss with me anyway, and more miss lately, so it's not a big loss.

Of all those mentioned/lost, I think Fraction was the biggest, and Hickman could turn out to be great but we'll have to wait and see.

Fraction, though...that's a bummer.

Oh, I hope so as well.

Carol's book is in need of an upturn in writing.

As for up and comers, this person has already worked for DC, but I'd like to see more of them: Amanda McMurray.

She's currently doing work on Aspen MLT's Soulfire, but I'd like to see her do more work at DC. I loved the way she wrote Helena Bertinelli in the DC Christmas Special.

Michael Green, Mike Johnson and Rafael Albuquerque already work for DC but they need a bump up the ladder.
