Which veteran writers and artists would like to see working at DC in the future?
Some of my picks are.....Ramona Fradon.....Cary Bates.....Elliot S! Maggin.....John Byrne....Brian Bolland
And there can't be enough from Joe Kubert. Tor was terrific. I hope DC keeps him busy.

Walt Simonson needs to be involved with defining the Fifth World if DC wants it to be 'big'/'Kirbyesque' enough to define a new age of comics.
Other than that, DC needs to keep giving work to Joe Kubert, John Severin, Russ Heath, Tony DeZuinga, Jordi Bernet, and other legendary artists. Also, Cary Bates wrote a very good mini entitled True Believers that DC might want to take a look at.
Sadly, this has historically been the what should Steve Gerber write thead...

Those are all good choices. John Severins art in the recent Bat Lash mini was beautiful. I loved Tony De Zuniga's and Jordi Bernets recent work in Hex.
Has anyone read Gary Chaloners John Law Detective? It was outstanding. I bet he'd be great on almost anything at DC.

It depends how you define "veteran" but DC could really do with having Mark Waid and Peter David back with them.
Has Chris Claremont ever worked for DC? If he were on top form, I'd love to see him take on one of their properties.

Chris Claremont did Sovereign Seven in the 90's. I never read it, but when I flicked through it it was very brown.
Personally I'd prefer Claremont to stay away from DC

Sure some of them have already done recent work with DC, but I want more from them

Well, he is drawing an upcoming Batman Confidential arc featuring King Tut (yes; the guy from the Adam West/Burt Ward show).
Michael Fleisher.
Jerry Robinson - I believe he's about 85 now, but was recently named as a consultant or something like that to the Bat-titles. When asked if this was simply an honourary title, it was revealed that he was working on a project for DC. I believe it was Joker related but nothing has been said since.
Alan Brennert - Wrote The Last Batman Story from Tec 500; Brave and the Bold 182 and 197; and Holy Terror. All four stories have to be somewhere in a list of the 10 greatest Batman stories ever told if not a list of top five.
Murphy Anderson.
Neal Adams - Drawing something other than a cover to some random comic that'll cost me $20 to buy. He should be above such gimmicks. Oh, and drawing something that isn't written by Frank Miller.
I'll second Eliot S! Maggin.
Carmine Infantino.
I'll also second Norm Breyfogle though he could hardly be considered a Veteran. However, he was second only to Jim Aparo when it came to drawing Batman so he has to be on this list.
Steve Ditko - I swear I remember hearing that he was scheduled to do an upcoming issue of Gotham Knights at one point. It never happened, but I've always wondered what the story was behind that.
I'd like to see Tom Mandrake doing more work for DC, especially on a crime title. You could pair him or Paul Gulacy up with someone like Brian Azzarello or Greg Rucka and it might work pretty well. (Mandrake did do an issue of the Crime Bible with Greg Rucka.)
I've never understood why someone doesn't pair up a vet artist with a wild style say such as Bill Sienkiewicz or Kelley Jones up with Grant Morrison. I would think those two guys over the top style would fit pretty well with some of Morrison's psychedelic scripts. I really cannot figure other than a personal reason why especially Sienkiewicz has never done a project with Morrison, to me that seems like an obvious fit.
I think it might also work to maybe pair up a veteran writer with someone newer on a title or mini-series like say Gail Simone/John Ostrander or Roger Stern/Kurt Busiek.
I think Tim Truman is a pretty good writer. I think he would make a good fit with Green Arrow. Criminy any classic 80s writer like him or Ostrander or Roger Stern etc. would be big improvement on Green Arrow.

(And yes, I know he writes WORLD OF WARCRAFT, is doing VIGILANTE covers, and is also working on some sort of TBA project - but have ya seen the guy's comics? They're decent! )

IIRC, Jose primarily does art on the various marketing projects at DC. For example, when you see Superman art in a toothbrush ad (or even on a toothbrush) he probably drew it.

I would like to see DC get Mike Carey back. Max Powers would be good as well.
Rick Remender is awesome. Solomon Grundy should have been written by Eric Powell. Peter David could bring back Fallen Angel to the DCU.

Either Kesel (is Barbara Kesel still using that name?) would be great. More/new Kia Asamiya, Alan Grant, or Devin Grayson would be nice (alright, so Grayson's a lot newer than any of the others I've suggested, but still). Roy Thomas. Trina Robbins.

Agreed. I think it is safe to say that Marvel will continue to give him satellite books that really add nothing to the X-Universe.
I'd like to see Gerry Conway back.

I don't know if I'd call him a veteran just yet, but if Jonathan Hickman headed up a team of writers on DC's next weekly, I'm pretty sure I'd be in hog heaven.
Matt Fraction would be excellent on Titans.

John Byrne
Elliot S! Maggin
I would love to see both on a Superman title again after the whole New Krypton thing plays out. Even in Adventure for a LoSH storyline. Wouldn't mind seeing a mini on Superboy Prime from Maggin either.
Denny O'Neil would also be great on a bat title, or at least if he wrote a few arcs for some other characters in the Bat stable . There were some gripes for his two parter on Batman, but he does great work otherwise.

They are getting him back. You can read a teaser for his upcoming Vertigo title, The Unwritten, on his official website.
I wish they'd convince Neil Gaiman to write something again.

I actually really liked his recent two-parter. People complained it was a Nightwing story, or that it introduced a new character, but, really, it's a post-Batman Gotham, what's wrong with moving on and positioning the Dick/Two-Face thing as the new Batman/Joker, or getting some new characters in there? The complaints seemed to be not that it wasn't a good story, but that it wasn't the story they wanted or were expecting.

I would like to think so as well. I did like both issues that Denny did. If anyone has to take up the mantle it is Grayson. In both ability and personal experience. As the first Robin, it only makes sense he should take up the role and follow in the footsteps of his forebearer. Seems like a natural transistion like Bucky in Captain America.
Once things settle down and the Batverse normalizes, I still think Denny could do a great job on the main title, as well as the Azrael continuation. Hell, I think AzBat was his original baby anyway. Depending on how things play out, he would be a great addition to the writing caste for a few characters.
In the next year at least, the possibilities for storylines are looking pretty good.

Veterans wish list
Neal Adams Batman of course
Jim Starlin JSA
Jim Steranko Suicide Squad
Carmine Infantino The Flash
John Byrne (actually i want him back at Marvel on Fantastic Four)
Howard Chaykin Green Lantern
Tim Truman Jonah Hex/Scalphunter/Bat Lash etc etc
Mike Grell Legion Of Superheroes
then we could also throw Miller back into the fray to fight it out with Adams over the Bats

There's a reason that they are not around. The medium has passed them by. Galacy does nice work, but most of them wouldn't be able to make the transition to todays type of story telling. Steve Englehart has done work for Dc that has been dissapointing.

I also did enjoy his Thor comics from back in the day. But sometime around Hawkgirl, he lost whatever he had. Sort of like Starlin. Starlin has written some good stuff, but his Rann/Thanagar Holy war story was horrible.

I'm pretty sure "Crucifer" ruined the story enough on it's own, didn't it?

Sweet. No one ever did Guy as good as Beau.
Walt Simonson's artwork still looks great. I thought some of the pages in Orion and in that Elric series he did with Moorcock were among the best he ever done. I'd love to see them get Simonson to write and draw a classic Batman story, maybe set in the period when he and Englehart and Rogers were working on the book.
There were parts better than others, but I thought some of the New Gods/Fourth World stuff Byrne did was really pretty good including some segments which had some really nice artwork. The back story stuff in the Fourth World series was often better than what was going on in the main storyline.

I'll add my vote to Simonson, especially if he's on art duties.
I'd love to see Englehart's followup to Dark Detective, even though Marshall Rogers is dead.
Roy Thomas on an Earth-2 book would be perfect. Maybe with Jerry Ordway on art.
Denys Cowan has done some work for DC recently but I'd like to see more. His Question artwork is a personal favourite of mine.
Anything at all from Alan Davis and John Romita Jr. would be appreciated. Also Gene Colan, especially on a horror or crime series.

I know this is bit of a long shot, but I would like to see John Romita Jr do at least one work for DC. I also like to see Stan the man Lee tackle the DC universe, and yes he did some work outside Marvel.
I also, like to see Todd McFarlane, Erik Lansen, Robert Kirkman, Chris Claremont, Mark Millar, Joe Mad, Kia Asamiya, Tom Clancy, Timothy Zahn (the Star Wars novel guy), Orson Scott Card, and that all I can think of for now.
