Writers and artists have favorites, so it's quite likely that there will be a shakeup of the roster of the Justice Society when Dale and Geoff leave. And they couldn't have kept this huge cast much longer, anyway.
Here is who I would like to see:
Black Canary
Dr Fate
Green Lantern
Flash
Huntress
Power Girl
Mr America
Mr Terrific

Jay Garrick

Damage
Citizen steel
Both wildcats
Hourman
cyclone
Dr Mid Nite
Mr Terrific

I don't think that they should cut it down that much. The Legion of Super-Heroes lived very well with having a constant roster, only changing slightly all over the 70s and 80s. The JSA has a similarly large roster meanwhile, and though I had to grow accustomed to some of the newbies, I really appreciate the large team. Gives the book a stronger feeling of family, or let's say, of the multi-generational approach.
I guess that some of the characters are less important than others, though. Jakeem Thunder, Cyclone, the young Wildcat, Judomaster - I could live without those people.
The best solution might be to reduce some of them to reserve status. Thus, you would not have to portray them regularly, but could get them back into action quickly for some crisis... another one... the Crisis after Final Crisis, for example
Starman and the Kingdom Come Superman are probably off the book anyway after next issue.

I like everybody currently. The only changes I might make, are ditching Jakeem (I find him quite annoying), maybe have Starman move on to his mission and back with the Legion, and Damage leaving due to a rift between him and the team.
In their place, I wouldn't mind seeing Atom Smasher and Dr. Fate back with the team.

I'd love to see the addition of Manhunter and the return of Tyler, the Hourman android.

Doctor Mid-Nite
The Flash (Jay Garrick)
Green Lantern (Alan Scott)
Hawkman
Hourman (Rex Tyler)
Liberty Belle
Ma Hunkel (caretaker; former Red Tornado)
Mister Terrific
Power Girl
Sandman
Starman (Thom Kallor)
Wildcat (Ted Grant)
Wildcat II, Damage, Obsidian, and Citizen Steel ought to go into the reserves, and possibly snag a book of their own. I'd check it out.
Lightning, Jakeem Thunder, Stargirl, and Cyclone should play with kids their own age and thicken the roster of the Teen Titans. That'd be nea, and they can stay on the JSA's reserve list anyhow.
Amazing Man, Mister America, and Judomaster should go solo and build up some reserve-status brownie points or something. Same for Superman of Earth-22.

That was an excellent point, regarding the usage of "Reserve Status" for various team members. I know it's a society and all, but it'd be better if those heroes spread out across the country to do good and would, very much like their friends in the JLA, use communicators to come together when necessary.
Yeah... Superman's evidently going into space. Here's my big question:
Geoff Johns is writing both the "New Krypton" storyline and Justice Society of America, no? Why the hell isn't Earth-22 Superman jumping for joy/getting involved with all the new Kryptonians floating around? Power Girl?

With the Gog story going on as long as it has, it's quite likely that the current issues of Justice Society all take place before New Krypton, Final Crisis and the other 22 events currently happening in the DCU (Reign in Hell, the Tangent Superman thing, the Rhann-Thanager Holy War, the Rise of the Olympian, the return of the Milestone heroes, Trinity...)

I really hope the lineup stays much the same. I'm a fan of almost every character in the team right now and I love teams with big memberships like this. If I was to lose somebody, I'd say maybe Jakeem and Judomaster could go. Maybe Starman, but only if Johns is writing the new Legion series in Adventure Comics and takes him other to that book.
If the team absolutely has to be scaled down, I'd want them to keep GL, Flash, Liberty Belle, Hourman, Cyclone, Stargirl, Dr. Midnite, Mr. Terrific, Citizen Steel, Amazing Man, Mr. America, Hawkman and both Wildcats.

This team has gotten so big that all of the characters are starved for character development. Time to trim it down to a more manageable level. I want to see a line-up that includes the old guys, some of the new/young heroes, and also some with intermediate experience, like Obsidian, Hourman, and Mister Terrific.
IN:
Alan Scott
Amazing-Man
Cyclone
Damage
Doctor Mid-Nite
Hawkman
Hourman
Jay Garrick
Jakeem Thunder
Liberty Belle
Mister Terrific
Obsidian
Sand/Sandman
both Wildcats
OUT:
Citizen Steel (doesn't interest me)
Judomaster (doesn't interest me)
Lightning (doesn't interest me)
Mister America (doesn't interest me)
Power Girl (getting her own title)
Stargirl (Geoff Johns won't let anybody else write her)
Starman (headed back to LoSH)
Superman (headed back to Kingdom Come storyline)
BeastieRunner

Green Lantern (Alan Scott)
Flash (Jay Garrick)
Wildcat (Ted Kord)
Starman (Thom Kallor)
Mr. Terrific
Power Girl
Huntress
Cyclone
Hawkman (Carter Hall)
Lightning
Caretaker
Stargirl
S.T.R.I.P.E.
Hourman

I think of the JSA as
Mr Terrific
Dr mid-nite
Flash
Hawkman
Wildcat
Stargirl
Alan Scott
Sand
That is to me the core of the team. I really dislike Judomaster, and dislike Wildcats kid(fine as a supporting character)
Additionally I think Jakeem does well with the team (but he's just kinda dumb character to be honest), Cyclone is funny to read so I would keep her around. Outside of that there isn't much of the new cast that I care one way or another Hourman and Mister America have some appeal I gather, but many of the other cast members are just too weak (citizen steel--obviously, and even Magog are pretty boring) too convulted (Obsidian) or storyline should be finished (Starman, kingdom Superman)
Now if we could bring Ted Kord back to life and put him on the team, that would be cool :)

Does anybody think there should be a "runover" team for some of the excess members?
Seems the name Infinity Inc. is available again.
Or how about Super Squad?

I like most of the current roster. The only person I'd really like to get rid of is Jakeem, as someone else said I find him extremely irritating.
I'd also love to see Manhunter join the team sense her book doesn't seem to be able to stand on it's own, and I love seeing her interact with some of the more traditional heroes, especially the JSA's ones.

Manhunter should join the JLA instead. They have a smaller active roster, so she would get more exposure. Besides, the JSA is generally focused on the golden age heroes and related legacy characters. Although she may be related to Al Pratt, she hasn't taken up his legacy, so she doesn't really fit the spirit of the group.

Johns introduced so many characters that it would be a god-awful idea to change the roster. If anything the new writer should create new characters of his own that he can feel comfortable with and add them until he's accustomed to the old ones.

Heck as long as the team consists of Ted, Jay, Alan, Michael and are joined by Atom Smasher I dont care who else is in it !

I'd like the full team to remain but a bit more discretion used in what characters go on what missions. Sort of like JLU where 2-4 off the team would go off to investigate and call in the cavalry if needed. It would allow the book to occasionally provide solo or duo spotlight issues for say Damage and Hurricane or Liberty Belle and Hourman, characters without any of their own ongoing titles.

That's an interesting point about sending teams on missions. In the old days, it was common for the JSA to split up into mini-teams to handle different aspects of a big menace. These days, there are so many active members that the JSA could send groups the size of normal superhero teams on these missions.

The new Judomaster's not related to anyone, just shares the same name, yet they actively recruited her. What makes her situation different from Kate's?

Fair point. Which is one reason why I don't want Judomaster on this team anymore. She's just some random character that doesn't have any connection to the rest of the team, except for her brief fling with Damage.

Here is the JSA I would use if I was writing the book
Alan Scott
Jay Garrick
Wildcat
Guardian (Jim Harper would guest and become a reservist)
Stargirl
Power Girl
Liberty Belle
Hourman
Citizen Steel
the Ray
These are the characters I would try to use.

I really like the big roster and a lot of the new characters Johns introduced. But I'm not sure every writer can write for a cast that size as well as Johns did.
I'd really like to see them drop Hawkman from their roster so he could move on to more solo stuff or a place on the Justice League where he'd get a bit more screentime. I love that character and Johns writes him well in JSA but I just don't get enough of him when he shares billing with 16 other characters.

Manhunter were two Golden Age characters, and her son even now owns the dog of one of them.
