Kara is one hot super chick, but did they have to make her blonde? Anyway I like how she's more fun loving and outspoken than Superman and her fights with Power Girl rock.

You're thread isn't marked for spoilers so let me just say that there was an 80 issue series with a nonblonde Supergirl lead and another 12 issue or so with a nonblond supergirl starting in the S books. Both characters bombed in that role, even though the books were quite good, and are now out of continuity.

Not really; 80 issues is the LONGEST run Supergirl has EVER HAD as a solo series character. While the last series eventally got cancelled so DiDio and Friends could eventually bring us another flailing "upteenth Kara Redux", the book was on the sales rebound when it went away.

And as for the Cir-El incarnation that popped up around this same time, she was never designed to last long anyway. Merely a weak plot device to wrap a year-long Superman arc around.

and are now out of continuity.

Not true; even the current SG model acknowledged her predecessors in the first issue of her series.

I seem to remember there being plans for a "Supergirls" series with Cir-El, Natasha Irons and Traci 13, which were thankfully scrapped.

Linda Danvers also just made an appearance in Reign in Hell.

I'm one of the few people who actually liked Loeb/Turner's Supertorso... Johns current version is sort of meh and too much like pre-crisis Kara who was a zilch for personality.

She wasn't raised on a Kansas farm with great parents so she shouldn't be all morally perfect like Kal is... I like the idea of a fish out of water learning to be a hero not unlike Kesel's Superboy except with a different angle on the whole nature vs nurture debate because just being related to Superman doesn't necessarily mean you can be this ideal hero without a bit of work.

Actually, that idea sounds more like a typical Berganza knee-jerk reaction to his bad editing at the time, and probably fueled by David's revelation of a proposed pitch for a "Blonde Justice" series starring Linda, Kara Zor-El, and Power Girl, which never materialized either.

That's what has been going on in the book when Bedard, Puckett and now with Gates. She's not morally perfect. She's been growing into it, trying to find her way so that she can live up to the legacy of Clark and Linda.

Yes in her Earth Angel look. No mention about her being Supergirl or Matrix. Also note that Twilight, despite being a New God, wasn't killed or mentioned even though all the New Gods are dead and accounted for. There is more evidence than not that Linda Danvers as Supergirl not Earth born Angel and Matrix as Supergirl are no longer in continuity. As a fan of the 90s early 2000s series I hate that but I’m not going to throw out my collection anytime soon as they are still good reading even if it looks like those stories never happened.

Dr. Occult DOES actually start to call her supergirl before she stops him.

There's been a non-blonde Supergirl that starred in her own book?

Maybe he's referring to Linda Danvers who had brown hair, but as Supergirl, she was blonde.

Or perhaps Matrix, who while she appeared to be a blonde woman, was really a protoplasmic creature and had no true hair.

...

There was also DC 1 million Supergirl who had red hair, IIRC. She had a one shot dealie.

Just throwing that out there.

Maybe so. Still, as Supergirl they were still both blonde.

So did I. I liked that one since she was more feisty and headstrong. She did not come across like a Superman with female anatomy. I really found the whole troubled teenager girl trying to overcome her demons and grow into being a hero a facinating read. I also loved the fact that she was determined to be her own person. It's too bad that DC decided to jetison that idea.

There are two main things I liked about the old Kara. The first even though she looked like a really sweet/hot California surfer girl, if you messed with her she'd kick you @$$ to the moon. I found it a very interesting dichotomy. She looked sweet and harmless on the surface, yet she was really dangerous underneath.

The second thing I loved about her was the way she used uncoventional means to solve problems. My favourite issue was probably the Christmas Special where she brought an estranged father who was suffering from depression back to his estranged daughter. The methods Kara used were...suprising (to say the least), but it worked and it was fun to read.

Not really. Yes this Kara is not perfect, and she certainly fits the fish out of water component. Her characterisation is still boring and bland. She basically had a a charmed life and her raison d'etre now seems to be to try and be a hero and fall under the shadow of her big cousine. I'm not getting much sense of as to her wanting to be how person, and in turn why I should really care about her. She's basically comes across as some sachrinized heroine from an old Walt Disney film.

I see nothing at all interesting in that at all.

Linda Danvers wasn't blonde. When Linda and Matrix were no longer merged she had to wear a wig and did for until the series ceased publication around issue 80.

Dr. Occult DOES actually start to call her supergirl before she stops him.

According to Wiki her new Linda Danvers is a fallen angel from the other side. Not an Earth born angel. That fact alone retcons her character and history out of existence. Being a big fan of the character I HATE that but right now that's how things stand in DC lore.

For me, I was never a Super Girl fan. The only reason why I like her is only because she's a family member of the house of EL and she is pretty much nothing more to me other than that. Though, DC has done an amazing job with her and brought in fans of hers at a rabid pace, but she never appealed to me and probably never will, esp. after this New Krypton Arc.

I agree. Supergirl by PAD was the bee's knees and was never better before or after it. It is too bad SUPERGIRLS will never see the light of day. I loved the team-up with Peege in 14 & 15 and the MANY HAPPY RETURNS arc was great. Teaming all three femmes would have rocked the house.
