Does DC make any money from the DC comic book movies, video games, TV, clothes, etc? The Dark Knight grossed over 500 million so did they see any signifigant amount of that?

Or does the WB get it all?

I know that WB owns DC, so do they get all of the revenue from non comic book, book media?

Yes. In fact it could be argued that "Karate Kid" is one of the most financially successful characters they own, as they were paid a fee by productions of the first 3 (and now re-make of) the Karate Kid franchise.

They would get money from the fees charged to use the character. So for example they would not get paid a piece of the money for the Batman Lunchbox but the lunch box company would pay to use the image.

Same thing for videos or games that they do not produce themselves. As for how the accountant credit in house use of the character you would have to see the balance sheet.

WB could not pay a fee for smallville and that divisions cost would decrease increasing the over all profit on their balance sheet, or they could pay a fee to DC increasing their balance sheet. It can work either way.

I think when Teed turner owned TBS and The Braves, the Braves received a small amount of TV revenues on paper but the over all company did well.

But DC is not an independant company. Wouldn't the fee for Smallville or the lunchboxes go to Time Warner rather than to DC?

I mean, it's not as if DC has got any say in whether or not movies, television series, or lunch boxes get made or not.

well it would depend on the corporate structure but the head of DC could be given freedom with the right s on images to make whatever deals or their could be a larger department within Time Warner the holds that power. Most likely it is some combo of the two.

Yes, Time Warner would get the money but the DC division would be credited as having created the revenue. The more revenue a department made the more money the company can justify reinvesting in that department.

WOW! This is breaking news to me. I never thought it was the same character.

Well, he never said it was the same character. Of course, it wasn't. The movie, though, did have to pay DC a fee for using the Karate Kid name. Therefore, the Karate Kid character earned money for DC, not because the character was in the film, but because a trio of movies paid to use the character's name.
