...blows.
I'm not sure why everyone is in love with this show.
First of all, that narrator pisses me off. He robs the scene of drama by speaking in a passive voice and telling you exactly what's going to happen. Or what is happening. Somebody could say, "This is happening", and the narrator would scream "THAT'S HAPPENING" and give you a visual aide because apparently you're retarded and can't process things that you see with any kind of coherency.
Likewise, I don't need these characters to have internal monologues to explain to me how they're feeling. They yakuza mobster doesn't have to say "There's no way I'm a nice guy". We know you're not a nice guy. You're a yakuza mobster. And Kaiji doesn't have to talk about how much of a loser he feels like. We know he's a loser and we should be able to tell from his actions, not from him explaining in depth how much of a loser he is.
Also, it's predictable, the "all-or-nothing" gambling idea has become a huge cliche at this point, card games are NEVER terribly interesting and Kaiji himself isn't doing a ton to endear himself to me. He could get popped in the head next episode and I wouldn't care a lick.
The music annoys me, the characters logic patterns don't make any sense(how does a dude who has sucked so hard at gambling as to get himself in this position in the first place work out incredibly intricate thought-process theories in, like, five minutes?), and any show that needs a diagram to show you what's going on is an automatic loss in my book.
Can anyone who's seen the program explain to me why this stupid thing is so popular? I'm five episodes in and there's no sign of improvement.
