Some very nice research in this installment. I am very surprised, though, that the death of Jason Todd wasn't mentioned here. A landmark in itself, it brought tremendous media attention and new reader interest to Batman a full year before the Burton movie was released.

While we're on the subject, a Batman movie had been on the table and receiving treatments for a full decade prior to the 1989 film's release. It was not specifically planned in reaction to the success of DKR.

That seems to gloss over and ignore a good chunk of most of the 50s, 60s and 70s of Batman really.

When are we going to give the demonization of Wertham a rest? The issues and the man himself were far more reasonable and complicated than we like to admit.

I felt the same way about Wertham as anyone else, until I read through this TCJ forum thread. As always, Jesse Hamm is a voice of reason:
