when i think of Marvel's powerhouse heroes - Hulk, Juggernaut (well, ex-hero i believe), Colossus, Thing, Hercules come to mind.
who are the powerhouses of DC? a lot of heroes in the DCU have superhuman strength such as superman, but i'm talking about the guys who's primary or only power is incredible strength.
i was trying to think of all the meat heads in DC the other day but couldn't really come up w/ many haha. but then again, i am new to DC so i'm sure there's a bunch that i'm forgetting.
i guess superman is one, but then again he has so many other powers...there's Citizen Steel from JSA, who else?

Just heroes? Because Doomsday and Mongul could be acredited as powerhouses. Many Superman foes have this trait. Zod.
Also Darkseid, Atlas....
Some people say Wonder Woman is a female equal for Superman.
Martian Manhunter strength hasn't been totally explored....
Lobo is pretty tough...
Superboy Prime.
That's all I can think about right now.

Whoa, whoa, WHOA guys.
He asked for people whose primary capability is super strength. Most of the people listed here are just folks who have super strength as part of their arsenal.
Actually come to think of it, there's very few DC characters I can think of who are just Super-strength one hit wonders.
Most of DC's strong superheroes tend to get a full Flying Brick package (flying, invulnerability, and some sort of super senses or eyebeams.)
Grace Choi would be somebody who's only power is being strong. So would Donner (although she's really a Milestone character that's being introduced to DC today.)

I think the likes of Orion & Lobo is pretty much a power hitter , likely to go fist first into any fight. Both can't fly without devices.
Loose Cannon is pretty much like hulk , Hourman has only super strength , so is brahma.

Don't forget Frankenstein, Doomsday (can't fly).
Bane could be a low class power house.

Orion I thought of as well. Who is that guy in Star City who is a quasi good guy? He is strong but I don't know if he is powerhouse or just a strong guy like say Kingpin.
Amazing Man can't fly can he?

Grace is as much of a powerhouse as Bane(when on Venom)...
Grace is a "regular" amazon (actually Bana) and they are no where near WW/WG level..

Blockbuster used to be, but I don't know if that has changed since Underworld Unleashed (wasn't he the one who changed into a genius?)
Knockout had super strength, but I don't believe anything on par with the Hulk...
Roughhouse was a member of Intergang. Can't remember too much of him, but I thought he also had strength, but I'm not sure exactly how strong he was.
Mongul I and II, Mongal. As far as I'm aware, strength was really all they had....
Brawl was a Doomsday-esque monster that was in two issues and died in Superman, but I thought he just had strength also.
Cauldron, another Superman villain, I believe was more machine like, but it's been a while since I've read his issues but I don't remember what all he could do.
What about Kalibak?

The only traditional bricks I could think of were Grace, Citizen Steel, and Lobo.
DC tends to make their tanks extremely versatile.

Brick is the guy your thinking of from Star City.
Starman ally 'Bobo' Benetti would also qualify.
Stalnivolk is a borderline hero (he was a Soviet hero who mostly served as an atagonist) whose only real powers were strength and invulnerablity.
Other heroes whose primary power was strength/toughness:
Red Star
'Iron' Munro
Atlas
Hawk

For Heroes I'd suggest Caitlin Fairchild, and I remeber reading a story (Pain of the Gods or something?) That had a guy who was just strong holding up a heavy pipe in a collapsing building while Supes got the people out. The pipe burst and he died because he wasn't invulnerable. Not sure if he ever got a name though.
Villain wise? Blockbuster, Mammoth and Shaggy Man. Though they all have super toughness as well at least. I think in DC Strength tends to go hand in hand with durability at the minimum.

Metallo is a power house too.

Don't forget Big Barda, Rampage, Olympian, that Sumo guy in Final Crisis...

I always think of Lobo primarily as a powerhouse... one that could easily go toe to toe with the Hulk. (Yes he has other useful abilities, but so does the Hulk.)
And Solomon Grundy?
Not heroes? No.. but take a look at Hulk's activities. He's no hero either.

Why are the DC powerhouses so less known? Hulk and Thing are obvious but Juggernaut, Colossuss, Hercules and She Hulk despite being super strentgh one hit wonders" are still more known then most of the lists of DC counterparts i have read here.

That's because Marvel have a lot more grounded bricks than DC. DC has more vesatile bricks since a lot of them can fly and have other abilities. People like Superman , wonder woman , captain marvel , martian manhunter , etc are powerhouses but are not grounded like those marvel heroes like thing , hulk etc.

I guess the problem is DC has a lot of popular heroes with super strength but few that fit the specifications of this thread.
Orion is the best example right now.
LSH's Blok
Lobo
Big Barda
Red Star no longer qualifies cause he got augmented several years back. But he used to.
Villains:
Solomon Grundy
Kalibak
Blockbuster (the old one)
Bane
Doomsday
Girder
Mongul
Mammoth
The General (although he also has a healing factor)
