From DC:

DC COMICS UNVEILS "ORIGINS AND OMENS" IN FEBRUARY

ADVENTURE COMICS #0 PRICED AT JUST $1.00

This February, nineteen core titles from the DC Universe will feature "Origins and Omens" backup stories. "Origins and Omens" lays the groundwork for the upcoming GREEN LANTERN: BLACKEST NIGHT miniseries and more in 2009.

These "Origins and Omens" issues are solicited in the December Previews and are scheduled to arrive in stores in February. DC Comics will announce the full lineup of writers and artists contributing to these stories soon.

Watch for "Origins and Omens" stories in these issues:

. ACTION COMICS #874 (DEC080116)
. ADVENTURE COMICS #0 - Specially priced at just $1.00! (DEC080117)
. BIRDS OF PREY #127 (DEC080120)
. BOOSTER GOLD #17 (DEC080121)

. GREEN LANTERN #38 (NOV080161)

. NIGHTWING #153 (DEC080113)
. OUTSIDERS #15 (DEC080115)
. ROBIN #183 (DEC080114)
. SECRET SIX #6 (DEC080139)
. SUPERGIRL #38 (DEC08018)
. SUPERMAN #685 (DEC080109)
. TEEN TITANS #68 (DEC080144)
. TITANS #10 (DEC080143)
. VIGILANTE #3 (DEC080148)
. WONDER WOMAN #29 (DEC080150)

Also this month, watch for ADVENTURE COMICS #0, reprinting one of the cornerstone stories of the DCU with a special price of just $1.00 and featuring its own all-new "Origins and Omens" tale! To celebrate the upcoming ADVENTURE COMICS #1, this issue reprints a Silver Age classic from the title's prior volume - ADVENTURE COMICS #247, the first appearance of The Legion of Super-Heroes! ADVENTURE COMICS #0 also features a new cover by Aaron Lopresti that's an homage to the original.

19 books with new back-up stories? They don't mention it in the press release, but I'll be taking bets that those 19 titles will have price hikes to $3.99 for those extra pages.

And, oh yeah -- another universe-wide event. Whoo-hoo!

Yikes! Looking at that list, the only book that I will be reading past February will be Green Lantern. I'm dropping Action now that Johns is off the book, NW & BOP are ending, Outsiders is intriguing based on Tomasi's NW work and I'm on the fence for Supergirl.

I think that the initial solicitations had these books at $2.99. If they change the price, I'll be quite upset. I really am on a hard budget these days and increased pricing means less books that I will be able to read.

I've long understood the need for independent comics to have higher prices than the large, corporate Marvel and DC, but it seems like they are almost at the same level now. In some cases are...

I guess the only thing stopping a lot of people from getting them are getting their comics from good comic shops that discount them to 'normal' prices as well as giving good customers an additional discount.
