The Purple Ray?

I know that the purple ray is a tool used to heal people, but
i was wondering is it actually a "machine" which is electronic-based or is it
powered directly from the gods (zeus, athena) that the amazons worship?

Yup. Pre-Crisis the Amazons were very technologically advanced. In theory they still are but that aspect of their achievement is not often addressed. The wikipedia entry is pretty good.

Cool. Then why don't they look it. On Krypton for example, they look advanced, but the amazons don't. Were they just gifted the technology by the gods or did they develop it themsleves?
Has that ever been addressed properly?
On the recent issues of wonder woman #26, the "gods" showned up in an advanced ship, which basicully confirms that they are a quite technological advanced race themselves, and not some divine beings. So it would be reasonable to assume that they gave the amazons there tech. right?
Now that would be cool!

Has that ever been addressed properly?The Amazons are technologically more advanced because they have a millenia old culture, not broken up by various dark ages and whatnot, and don't waste most of their resources on war and stuff.

Yeah, they are a lot of women without "soup opera" to watch and enoungh respect for their equals to not gossip about each other.

Well, I think no one forgets about purple ray, which heals steve trevor with the help of Diana. :smile: After Crisis on Infinite Earths, purple ray was mentioned on many Amazons book.

Sometimes I think I'm the only one that remembers they have a big as hell neighbor enemy right under their capitol lurking just beyond the gates to the underworld.

As to the amazons not looking advanced, they did for awhile. It's been reverted since the latest Crisis so that the island looks like something out of an ancient Greek Myth again, but for a long while Paradise Island had massive kind've "bubble" buildings that seemed reminiscent of the same material that Diana's invisible plane is made out of. I don't know when exactly this was changed back to looking just like an old Greek city-state but I'm pretty sure it was during/near Infinite Crisis.

Even though they don't look it, the Amazons are still considered to be a very technologically advanced race. They just happen to still like the classic Greek architecture more than modern city designs, can't really fault 'em for that. If I could afford it I'd love to have a house built to look like one of the ancient greek temples.

You can't use the Purple Ray on pre-existing conditions or those not covered by AmazonCare.

They are like the MU Asgardians - sometimes they pull out giant ray gun cannons and blast away. Then they run after folks with maces.

Depends on the plot.

Despite being a HUGE Wonder Woman fan since I was a small child, just learning to read, when I first saw this thread I thought, "OH CRAP, Now the Ray's got competition of all colours, not just Lanterns!"
