Does anyone know of any modern era stories where Batman just fights regular criminals, instead of super villains? Like just him prowling the streets of Gotham at night, and encountering common crooks. Something like they just think he is just an urban legend, and then he scares the crap out of them. What about stories where he interacts with normal everyday citizens of Gotham?

Also I read Year One already and that had some great Batman vs regular people stuff in it.

I was reading a very short fanfic about Batman's interactions with normal Gotham citezins, and it made me really want to read something like this in a comic. Especially the way criminals see him.

On a related note, is Batman still believed to be an urban legend? I know he was for a while.

Sounds like you might be interested in the old batman : gotham nights 4 part mini series which focused on the ordinary citizens of gotham and their reaction to batman.

I guess, you loves to read good old stories of Batman. The Demon of Gothos Mansion is one among them and you will love to read.

If I'm understanding the first part of the question right, there are way, way too many stories for any kind of real recommendation thread.

You could dive into a back issue bin, pull out a Batman comic at random, and chances are 50-50 that he'll be fighting a non-powered criminal with no gimmick or deformity

I'm just remembering this off the top of my head so I might be wrong but Batman fights non-super villains in Batman Year 100 (he fights the govt in the future); Gotham by Gaslight (fights Jack the Ripper in the past) and then there's the whole Maroni/Falcone element from year one and TLH in Batman and the Monster Men and Batman and the Mad Monk. Even though super villains are in the last 2 there is a big focus on the gangster and it feels very 'real life.'
