His latest update talks about his upcoming Battle for the Cowl story. Interesting that he sees it as a movie. Also a picture of Dick - as Nightwing - in the varient cover for 684 which I haven't seen before.
So by now a lot of you may have heard that I've been tapped for the honor of both writing and drawing "Battle for the Cowl", due out next March. Regular readers of my blog know that I've written before. Books like "The Tenth", "Adrenalynn", "F5", "Silke" and "Humankind". And that I've also worked on screenplay writing for the last 7 years or so. Notably, a screenplay right now being developed by producers, Pierce/Williams and also (though it didn't sell) a screenplay I co-wrote that had Oscar winner Bruce Davies (Braveheart) attached to produce. So basically, I've been busy writing a lot when I haven't been drawing.
So it's great to put some of the skills I learned on the screenwriting side of things into my comics writing. So far, so good. i turned in my first script recently and should be ready to start the pencilling next week. It's very exciting to be writing comics again, particularly this comic, with these characters. I feel very at home within Gotham City and it'll be great showing you 100% of my vision.
I can't discuss story, but I can say that there's lots of action, lots of characters and a one big issue to resolve: who should take over the cape and cowl? Should it be taken over? I have 90 pages to tell this tale. 30 pages a book, 3 books starting in March. I'll be treating this the way I would a 90 minute film. As they say, 'the future is now.'

Not knowing anything about the story doesn't pique my curiosity, it actually makes me less interested.

Interesting, He has written more than i imagined which is a pleasent surprize. I am definately looking forward to this story.
As for the post above me, what more do you need to know about a comic titled Battle of the cowl?
color my interest piqued!

It's his general attitude. "I can't discuss story..."
Well, if you can't discuss story, don't say anything at all!

No he doesn't give anything interesting away except the fact that we are talking about March and beyond (if it's one issue a month then at least May) until we find out who will be taking over the cowl.

he can get sacked for giving out information before a solicitation or actual issue comes out.
so the best he can give is teasers and show some interest in his upcoming work, which he is doing IMHO.
I know plenty of folks who work for marvel and DC and they have to be very careful what they say before the comic hits the stands.

It would be better to say nothing at all than to toy with the people who ultimately pay his bills.

well, us guys on the internet, our small faction of fans do contribute to his pay, yeah.
sure he makes more doing commissions and covers i'd wager.

I guess I've been one of the harshest Daniel-critics here. But even I - especially I, I suppose - have got to admit that that Nightwing pin-up/cover looks good. If only everything he did could look as good.

I'd say you hate mark millar? eh?
He is a one man hype machine, whose work never lives up to his hype. plus fans could never love his work as much as he loves his own work.
and BTW, Don't speak for me or others when you use the word moron.

It's sick that he sits there and thinks, "How can I f*** with these morons today? Let's be coy with them and give them only teeny tidbits of information!". It's true you know.
And not just Tony Daniel---Geoff Johns, Dan DiDio and other creators are also guilty of this.
Dude chillax! Of course it's in their best interests to tease but it makes it more interesting when we get a little bit of info at a time. What else would we talk about?! Remember we are talking about a story thats over 3 months away

I'm speaking for Tony Daniel. :-)
As for Mark Millar, I don't read Marvel so I've never read anything by Mark Millar. Actually, that's not true, I read the first four issues of his Authority run.

It's not the tease, it's the fact that they do it in a borderline malicious way. It's like they're revelling in their superiority to us, because they know the details and we lower life forms don't.

Agreed, A Tease is good for the taste buds.
Here's a Tease.
Gotham will be in Riot mode and begining to shut down, so nightwing will lead the JLA, JSA and The Titans and legion of superheroes into gotham to battle every batman villain ever!

I'd say there's more than a little projection in that statement. For better or for worse (I'm fine with it, for the time being) this is how this business seems to work.

Sorry, man, but I don't get your negativity. At all. First of all, Battle For The Cowl hasn't even been solicited yet. Secondly, I daresay the title does a pretty good job of giving away the basic plot. So, what do you expect Tony Daniel to do exactly? Give us an issue-by-issue synopsis complete with the end result?
The only alternative to what Tony is doing would be complete silence (in which case I'm sure you'd complain he's "snubbing" his fans or some such nonsense). I'd much rather have a little information to wet my appetite.
GRANT!

Seriously what do you need to know at this point? It's pretty apparent from the title what the story is about. And you can pretty much guess who's going to be in the comic. Are you seriously hoping they will come out say "Yeah basically Nightwing is going to become Batman?" This is just complaining for the sake of complaining.
