Hello guys, i'm starting to read x-men books again but have a few questions:

Are Uncanny and Astonishing connected? Are they like Spidey was with Amazing/Sensational/Peter Parker? Or are they in diferent continuities?

Are these two the best x-books out there (and good god, there are a LOT of x -books)?

Thanks!

Are these two the best x-books out there (and good god, there are a LOT of x -books)?No. X-Force is by far the best X-book out there right now. By Far.

Astonishing and Uncanny share the same continuity (as well as any two books in the standard Marvel U anyway).

I would say no to them being the two best x-books out there, though. X-Force and X-Factor seem to be the most popular and considered the best reads for people on this forum, though Uncanny and Astonishing are both essential to keeping up with X-verse continuity. (Probably more so than X-Factor or X-Force, though not by a lot).

The Young X-Men and Cable are the other two ongoing X-verse series. They both have good qualities, but again the popular opinion is that, overall, they aren't that good. Personally I think they both have a lot of potential and just keep waiting for them to live up to it. Neither has as of yet. I've said I was going to drop them both from my pull list numerous times, but I still pick them up because they do share a little with the other x-books, especially Cable.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your help. Is uncanny and astonishing on the same page right now? (meaning do they share the same arc?)

i've heard that asto has suffered serius delays.

Also that astonishing ignores the major events that have happened (civil war, Messiah complex etc etc) true?

So what are the main diferences between these two books?

X-Factor is the best series. It stands on it's own and it's clever.

they are on different arcs.

Astonishing DID suffer serious delays, with its former creative team. its fine now, i think.

Again, the former creative team on Astonishing were so late it made it seem as if they ignored major events. They dont any longer.

Astonishing and Uncanny are on different arcs.

X-Force and X-Factor are your two best X-titles at the moment, easily.

X-Force and X-Factor are your two best X-titles at the moment, easily.Yep. I'd agree with that.

At the moment, I'd say most of, if not all of the core X-book tie into or mention eachother at somepoint in their story arcs. But this doesn't mean you need to pick them all up to undertsand thier own stories. It's a matter of trying them (or reading the solicits) to see what interests you most, or where you fave X-characters are at the moment, if you wish to follow them.

What i really wanted to know is if they are i the same time frame, like are they both past messiah complex?

Imagine beast dies in uncanny, will u still see him on astonishing due to the delays?

Whats up with all the delays?

Haha, this is the best statement and question ever.

Astonishing and it's weird world obsessed with it's own characters and plot could be nigh on ignored for the entire stories running along side it in Uncanny and X-men.

To me it's a joke that the edittors and Joey Q rolled over so much for a wanabee writer in Joss Whedon. I blamed it once of Cassaday's slow but crap art but after Runaways being delay under Whedon's pen with a fast artist, the truth was out.

If I were you I'd accept that Colossus is alive and ignore all of it as not in continuity no matter what anyone says.

...*pauses* Not reading Ellis Astonishing but I'd hope that's more in continuity then Whedon's was. How's that doing btw?

Thats what i'xe heard! that joss dude says that he much rather have astonishing by itself (like a one-shot) rather than 'share' it with the rest of marvel. So basicly i feel that Astonishing doesnt bring anything new to uncanny (which feels like the main title and Astonishing like a complementary title to spend a few bucks on.)

Please help e out..

First off, in the future, kindly direct your "Q"s to the "Questions" thread, and they'll get answered just the same.

To answer your question, let's put it this way, when Messiah CompleX started, a lot of people noted the absence of Kitty Pryde, and knew since the last arc Whedon was writing on Astonishing hadn't finished, and was delayed, that it meant Kitty was either dead, or MIA, somehow, by the end of that story.

OK, thank you for your answer,

So to wrap it up, basically Astonishing is always late, and adds no real substance to the uncanny x-men, so you either go for one or the other.

Astonishing X-Men is rather stand-alone, but it's a good read IMO.

I'd say the best X-books out there right now are the First Class titles, hands down.

Astonishing X-Men by Joss Whedon is a great series so read the trades. There are only four of them. Start with them before Uncanny

http://www.amazon.com/Astonishing-X-Men-Vol-1-Gifted/dp/0785115315/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1228615138&sr=8-2

Messiah Complex takes place after the series. then start with Uncanny X-Men at issue #500. and X-Force too.

Astonishing X-Men should be read in trades, not single issues IMO.

So, your saying, read all astonishing, then read messiah and then uncanny 500?

^ yeah. Uncanny X-Men is up to issue #504 right now so it's not too late to jump on.

don't forget X-Force. It comes after Messiah Complex too. it's better than Uncanny.

X-force is like black ops right?

Whats wrong (needs to change) in uncanny? I read 500-504 and it was ok, its like the setting up of the new base...but then again, havent read anything before...what do you think?

Should I follow Astonishing after messiah?

yeah, X-Force is Cyclops' secret team. He put Wolverine as leader. Not even Emma knows.

I think Uncanny will get better. There's some very interesting stuff coming up with Emma Frost (read the Secret Invasion: Dark Reign issue next week to see what it is)

I haven't kept up with Astonishing after MC. the trade is not out yet. It's written by Warren Ellis now, so it's probably good
