First of all, in the second issue of his run as artist on New Exiles, I think we now got the "real" Tim Seeley. I thought the first issue looked a bit on the rushed side, and it didn't seem like he had a good feel for the characters. In this issue, though, he did a dynamite job with the artwork. Strong character work and good storytelling - an overall top notch job, art-wise.
Story-wise, it was an okay issue.
I liked the explosion early in the issue and I especially liked the way the Exiles worked to save as many people as they could with their disparate powers. That seems to be something that writer Chris Claremont has always been good at - showing a team of heroes all using their various abilities to come together to help out in a crisis.
I think Claremont did a pretty good job with the alternate universe evil X-Men who the Exiles fight in this issue, although, seriously, Devo? Devo?!?
The fight scene was handled well, and I especially enjoyed Lilandra kicking some ass, and talking some smack at the same time!
It all led to a pretty cool cliffhanger - Madame Hydra is here for revenge on Cat!
I wonder if we'll get to see some cool Gambit/Madame Hydra interactions.
"What the devil" count = 2 (plus one "where the devil?")
The Sage back-up was pretty dull, though I think the artwork from Vincenc Villagrasa was an improvement. I did like the ending, when Merlyn shows up!
All together, some great main art (and decent back-up art) and a decent story makes for a pretty good comic.
Not good enough to recommend, but this was a pleasant enough read.

You talk like that's a bad thing. Not appearing in this book gives him the advantage over all the characters who do.

I wouldn't care so much if 616 Sabretooth was still alive in the Marvel U.:frown:

He's fighting X-Force! Plus, it's obvious that Romulus is really Sabretooth faking his own death.

Clones are just not the same as the real deal, and I hope you are right about Romulus being Sabretooth. Maybe the guy Wolverine decapitated was one of Sinister's clones?

Or maybe Romulus is secretly AOA Sabretooth broadcasting from the Crystal Palace?
Either way, I look forward to next issue: Sage v. Merlyn. We all know who the winner will be.

I think this one is a good issue.
Good fighting scenes of the Exiles vs the Death Commandos. I didn't like the idea of the use of the evil O5 (part of them) as the Death Commandos but CC and Seeley made it quite different from the previous incarnation (evil X-Men). Moira Kinross as Hypernova is hot.. and I like Havok as Warshot.
Interesting new revealation of Rogue's power. Wish CC told it much earlier in the series. It's been more than 10 issues before we finally know much about her.
Great to see Lilandra in action and I'm quite surprised with her relation with Madame Hydra. Next issue is Madame Hydra vs Cat!
Sage Backup story is okay. Did she just offered a truce with Diana? But of course, Diana rejected the idea. Finally, Merlyn appread on the last page. I'm glad the Roma's memories plot seems to be wrapped up soon.

For me, this issue is a case of "So close, yet so far."
See, incorporating an alternate version of the Shi'ar Death Commandos? Brilliant. CC never really got to flesh them out in the 616. Having them here would make for a great fight.
But then, for whatever reason, he didn't just want them to be the Shi'ar Death Commandos. He wanted them to be another alternate old school X-Men. Who somehow, the majority of them have near-identical powersets to the SDC from Marvel-616. Incorporating one evil Xavier (didn't we just see that in Excalibur?) might've been fine. Havok, as Warshot, was NICE. Seeley's pencils made it great. But once you start throwing Archangel as Krait, and another girl Cyclops out there, you start making me wonder where the originality is. And a scantily clad Moira Mactaggart, as a Death Commando, to boot?
Close, yet just off target.
Which, gets me to the dialogue. Now, as Cronin pointed out, we had about a two and a half count for "What the Devil?!?" this issue. Not so hot, yeah. We also had one "My turn." or "Your turn." Because in a fight, everyone is automatically conscious of whose turn it is. That's come up WAY too much in this series, and we got one here between the a-feudin' Shi'ar royalty.
Speaking of which, that's part two of my dialogue nitpick. Why would the Empress of the Shi'ar empire refer to Morph as "Monkey-Boy"? She's from space. Isn't there some creature, or horrible term she'd have given him, rather than an animal she would only likely have, at best, a passing knowledge of? But, when your dialogue is formulaic, repetitive, and sometimes just plain not thought out, that'll happen.
Other than that, a great fight could've been done better justice without all the posturing from those in it with what was said.
Barring that, this issue did end up being better than several, and the Madame Sue Hydra vs. Tigra-Cat next issue could be either very interesting, or very underwhelming.

Didn't really mind it... but Devo's gotta go (as a name, at least)... from the 616 Death Commandos too.

Yeah, but using a unfamiliar term to an Earthling isn't going to have the same effect. Hepzibah refers to Shi'ar as birds. Skrulls are related to cows. That's just the way the Marvel Multiverse rolls.

I think Lilandra didn't refer Morph as Monkey Boy. It was Gambit she referred as one.

I don't think that was a girl Cyclops. I figured she had the Summers last name because she was married to Devo.

Even if so, my point still stands. It would even more so, since Aquambit doesn't look like a monkey. Morph at least kinda does.
