I finished reading Dark Knight Returns last night and I loved every page of it. I loved the idea of Batman have his own part of Bruce's mind and trying to pull him back in:biggrin: I also loved how the artwork really helped bring the story to life. So are there any other Batman comics like TDK Returns?

similar in what way?

alof of stories deal with Bruce VS Batman in some sense. try Ego or Blind Justice

if you have not read Killing Joke or Year One yet they have to be next. Dark Knight Strikes Again is one of my all time favorite comic books ever but don't go expecting it to be anything like DKR. it's not. alot of people would recommended The Long Halloween for new Batman readers. I would too, but only because it's a good introduction, it's not fantastic or anything

If you want another tale of Batman in the future then read Year 100 by Paul Pope. A classic.

Yeah Paul Pope's Batman:Year 100 is really good and has a similar gritty tone. My house is also in it which is cool for me!

I read Dark Knight Strikes Again yesterday and liked it as well. I heard a lot of great things about The Killing Joke and will probably check it out. Is Hush any good?

Hush is amazing, Some were disappointed with the ending of it, but i found it satisfying.

12 issues of jim lee, tons of batman's classic villains are in it, and one new one, HUSH.

who sounded like a joke, but now has grown into one of batman;s best and most scary villains

check out paul dini's recent heart of hush 5 part story in the Detective comics titles. Great stuff that was.

oh god, i want to read it again already:)

Check out Franks Daredevil stuff, Ronin and Sin City.

For similar Batman stuff go for Year 100 and the Matt Wagner stuff. Batman Year One by Miller and Mazzucelli is good too.

Great. Really good Batman story with an actually likeable Jason Todd. Has a lot of Batman going crazy in it, which is good. The art is really stunning and I think it's one of my favorite arcs. That being said, I'm fairly new but I have read all the supposed "classics" and I'd put The Cult ahead a bunch of them.

RIP goes into the psychological Bruce/Batman aspect to the nth degree.

Fugitive has Batman doubting and abandoning the Bruce identity, but the story is more detective/mystery oriented.

Books that are similar to DKR would be it's sequel, The Dark Knight Strikes Again and also All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder. All of which were written by Frank Miller.

you're a good man.

maybe you'll like All-Star. don't expect too much though, and remember it's supposed to be fun

Killing Joke should be next without question. Hush, I'm not really a fan of it but it can definitely be interesting to new readers. though Long Halloween is basically the same thing but slightly better

it's funny, surreal and pretty absurd, that's what I like most about it, along with the art. at times it descends into pure nonsense though in its plotting, but that's mostly okay. it's also funny in how it blatantly tries to be the next DKR without putting in the same hard work or original thought ( funny in a slightly pathetic way). it's in my Top Ten of Batman trades, so is Year 100. give both a go.

Cult,Batman: Murderer, Fugitive.

have to disagree, Cult is nowhere near in terms of quality, light years apart, and Murderer and Fugitive are both dreck

On page 74 Batman is looking at a map of the surveillance building but Paul Pope must have randomly picked any map from google or something because what's shown is a map of Glasgow and has the street where I used to live on it. I couldn't believe it when I first saw it.

Unfortunately it's as close as I'll ever come to being in a Batman comic!

If you liked the DK Returns, you'll love All-Star Batman and Robin.

Its a prequal to DKR, where Batman first recruits Robin. And Jim Lee draws the eff out of it.

I think I'll get that too, I always did like robin.

First of all, it's only sort of a prequel. Don't expect much in the way of continuity from Miller... in fact, expect blatant contradictions.

And, really, All Star is pretty much a parody of the aping of DKR that went on post-DKR. It's not an honest Batman story the way DKR is. It's completely tongue in cheek. Just know that going in and you'll enjoy it more. Otherwise, you'll be as confused an eventually letdown as most people were.

The Cult is good. In fact it's (for my tastes) the only decent Batman story Jim Starlin ever wrote. It's got good art from Bernie Wrightson and a story involving Batman losing his marbles a little bit. Nice Batmobile too!

Is Hush any good?
Not really, but a lot of people (not me) like Jim Lee's art which buys it some mileage with them, and other people seem to like anything with lots of action. It's not terrible though and most accounts seem to suggest it goes down well with people who are new to Batman.

My Grandpa was nearly in a TPB I read recently. I can't remember for sure, but I think it might have been Ultimate Iron Man v1 which had the guy who invented the vaccine for Polio. My grandpa started the charity (Action Research for the Polio Child at the time - now just Action Research) that funded that vaccine.
