Let's face it Batman R.I.P. is not the first time Bruce has been put out of action leading to his being replaced. Heck, Superman was dead & buried, but that didn't stop him coming back. Plus, let's not forget the golden rule: if there's no body, they'll be back.
So, as far as I see it, it's not a case of if Bruce Wayne will resume his Batman mantle, but [I]when[/I?

I'm sure he'll be Batman again by the time #700 comes out (18 issues from now), so I voted for 1-2 years.
Batman #700 sounds good to me, too.
Bruce's body is very much being picked apart in "Last Rites"...once again another case of people not "getting" Morrison's writing and looking at what's on paper, not what's going on is a case of non-linear writing.
Issue 700.

If they learned anything from what Marvel is doing with Captain America then thy know that with the right writer they can keep Bruce gone for a good amount of time.

2011 I think is the date of the return.

Batman's return is already planned. There's no body! It's ridiculous to think he's gone forever.
Marvel had the guts to shoot Captain America at least, why couldn't that happen here

This isn't where he disappears, though. He disappears in Final Crisis #7.

I agree. Bruce Wayne as Batman is a legendary character, and I by no means want to see him really gone *forever*. That being said, this has to last a good amount of time to make it something actually meaningful and poignant. Just having Dick Grayson or whoever take over for a few months is nothing new. We had that during KNIGHTSEND and PRODIGAL. We didn't go through the entire R.I.P. experience just to read PRODIGAL II.
If it were up to me, I'd keep Bruce out of the cape and cowl a minimum of five years.
