View Full Version : Advance Preview: X-Men/Spider-Man #2

I thought the first issue of the X-Men/Spider-Man mini-series was a lot of fun. As expected, Christos Gage has a great handle on all the characters, but unexpectedly, I was absolutely hooked by the art of Mario Alberti.

Anyone else enjoy the 1st issue? Or not enjoy it?

Anyway, for anyone who is interested, here is an advance preview of the 2nd issue, which comes out next week: http://www.comicsbulletin.com/news/122839456530288.htm

It's nice to see Storm crawling into the sewers again.

Some nice shots of white trash Rogue in her wife-beater. I'm sure maigen will be pleased.

Looks good. I skipped the first one due to zero interest in the Original 5, but this takes place during the Mutant Massacre, which is still the best X-crossover ever IMO. Count me in.

Ugh, continuity flubs ALL AROUND. :/

C'mon, doesn't Marvel have a copy of the Mutant Massacre tpb lying around for the editors to reference? Has Gage never read the story?

My biggest continuity niggle (beyond the LOL doesn't work X-cast) would be Spider-man floating that Sinister carrot... the X-Men didn't even know who Sinister was at this point (LOL).

Ugh, Gage fails hard. :/

Oh no, they know Mr. Sinsiter's name and nothing else!

Hell, they should already know that. When Sabretooth attacked the mansion, Psylocke picked his brain while he was fighting Wolverine. They didn't get much but could have easily gotten his name.

They specifically DIDN'T get a name actually, or even a face. They knew there was a shadowy puppet master behind the Marauders, but that's ALL they knew post-MM. That was their problem, and partially why they split up ranks soon.

Speaking of which, Dazzler wasn't at the mansion yet even and where's Betsy and Magnus?

FAIL.

Looks interesting but where's Psylocke? It's sad that Dazzler has more lines in that preview of a mini-series than she has had in UXM so far

I'm a bit confused as to when exactly this takes place. If Nightcrawler, Kitty & Colossus are already out of the picture then its post-Massacre. And judging by Dazzler's outfit the beginning scene w/ the X-Men & Spider-Man is right after UXM #214. In that regard there's no continuity problems with the team line-up (save for Psylocke's absence). The only hiccup I'm seeing is the Mr. Sinister thing.

^ well if this series takes after #214 then they could have gotten siniter's name from sabretooth as it was explained. besides, the original story had its own flubs. longshot joined before the mutant massacre but was no where to be seen

Dazzler being there *could* work, but it'd be tight as she left with Longshot, Rogue, Betsy, Moira, Callisto, Sharon and the injured X-Men/Morlocks for Muir almost immediately after she arrived at the mansion. She even said as much to Storm iirc, that she felt like she was being "gotten rid of" as soon as she got there or something.

The Sinister thing flat out conflicts with the actual Mutant Massacre though. Really, really lazy on Gage and editorial's part, it's a "Kwannon" level fuckup.

They did NOT get Sinister's name from Sabretooth. That was shown on panel, there's no "could have", we saw ALL Betsy got on panel.

Okay, but I'm not sure that "90s style continuity shredding retcon" was really what they were going for in this mini. :/

Literally all Betsy got off Sabes was that he'd fought Logan before and "shadow above the Marauders".

Okay, final one, where is Longshot? This should be tough, even CC couldn't answer this one.

If we want to be nice, we can think betsy is in the infirmary... Colossus and Sabrethoot did broke tree of her ribs, after all... and injured her a bit...

But I somehow feelt that the time frame would be clearer if we had her instead of Betsy.

Of course, maybe the writer prefered to use Dazzler because he likes her more, and he wants to reserve betsy until he gets to use the ninja chick... for Dazzler it was now or never

I will wait until read the whole history, and try not to judge it by minor continuty setbacks...

well, if that's the case even CC later contradicted that when he wrote that Dazzler/Wolverine flashback tale. Dazzler was living in the mansion & training in the Danger Room before she & Wolverine were fighting that Russian mutant. And there was no Longshot in that story either IIRC.

I think that took place a bit after all all the MM stuff? The "Aussie" team was living at the mansion briefly for awhile, Uncanny Annual 11 (the Davis one where they fought Horde with CB & Meggan) happened then too.

Immediately after the MM was pretty quick though, unless this actually takes place after the other X-Men got back from Muir. That might work... it'd be after Dazzler faced off against Juggernaut in the UK but before Havok joins. But then, that's a bit after the MM too...

I think UXM #228 took place before UXM Annual #11 and UXM #217-18 though. The team in 228 was just Wolverine, Storm, Rogue, Dazzler & Psylocke. So I always took it to mean it took place after 214 but before 215-218. They way CC wrote Dazz thats story she was still on her "solo" kick but 217-218 was about her "learning" about teamwork.

in any case, still looks like a fun story regardless of any continuity hiccups, lol

GOOD EYE! I noticed that, too, but didn't want to be ultra-nerdy. It is, in fact, the same dress (and earrings!) that she wore in #214 when possessed by Malice.
